About the presenter:

Rosalia Rivera is a travel and documentary photographer, organic farmer and sustainable food activist. She has docu-mented the practices of various pasture-based livestock farms in NY State which started her on her own journey as a farmer. Now living and farming in Timmins, Rosalia has delved deep into the local food movement, continually re-searching the global food system to understand it’s intercon-nectedness, it’s benefits and it’s flaws. Her passion to help create food security in the Timmins and area communities led her to create the website www.tasteoftimmins.com with the intention to help others connect with their local food re-sources. The website aims to provide not only resources, but also education for those interested in learning more about sustainable foods and farming practices. As a farmer and documentarian, she has an inside perspective of what true sustainable farming is all about and the value it contributes to the community and the environment. Through upcoming workshops, film screenings and events she hopes to bring the community together to learn, share and be inspired about good food, good health and good environmentalpractices.

Heirloom Tall Vine Brandywine Tomato

For Fresh Use, Canning, Juice or Sauce

Seed Specs: Sow in flat or cold frame about 5-6 weeks before plants can be sent out, after frost dan-ger. Keep soil temp. 24-32˚C until emergence. When the true leaves are emerging gradually harden off the

plant by keeping seedling at 16-21˚C.

Water only enough to keep soil from drying. Fertilize moderately with fish emulsion or a balanced soluble

fertilizer or compost.

Transplant after frost danger. Abundant soil phos-phorus is important for high yields. Excess nitrogen causes fampant growth and soft, late-ripening fruits. Once the soil is thoroughly warm, a mulch may be applied. To reduce blight keep seedling healthy and

growing steadily before transplanting out. Harvest ripe fruit regularly.

To learn how to save the seed, visit our website in August when we will post information about saving

open pollinated tomatoe seeds!
