Dear KCMTA Members,
Welcome back to those of you who attended the MTNA national
conference in Spokane! I'm sure you are all filled with ideas and
motivation for your next studio year. Keep that momentum going by
attending our final workshop of the year, “Taming the Jungle: Digital
Management Strategies for the Independent Music Teacher” by Amy
Chaplin, 10 A.M. Friday, April 5 at Schmitt. Also, don't forget to enroll
in the Achievement Auditions-- the deadline is April 13.
Hope you are all enjoying our spring weather! See you in April!
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Jazz Appreciation Month April is
Jazz Appreciation Month (fondly known as "JAM") was created by the
National Museum of American History in 2001 to recognize and celebrate
the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz for the entire month of April.

UPCOMING WORKSHOP Be sure to come to our April workshop! We are combining with the
Federated Music Teachers and are bringing in an out-of-town guest who spoke at
last year’s MTNA Convention.
Friday, April 5—10 AM meeting; 10:15 AM workshop
SESSION DESCRIPTION
Learn invaluable time-saving strategies for managing information and communication as a
music teacher and professional. Increase your ability to cull, absorb, and retrieve your most
valued content using tools such as Evernote, Feedly, and more.
ABSTRACT
Unlimited and continuous content is a reality of the world in which we live. Everywhere we
turn, there are new webinars, membership sites, online courses, blogs, Facebook groups, pod-
casts and more. Emails inboxes are overflowing with not just daily communication but online
subscriptions. Information is available at any time, place, and comes at us from many
directions. While unlimited content has its benefits, a new challenge is arising – digital con-
tent overwhelm.
This session will equip attendees with tools and time-saving tips for managing the jungle of
information. Demonstrations of apps like Feedly and Evernote and their content-management
power will change the way teachers engage in, cull, absorb, and retrieve not only information
but business and professional communication.
Attendees will learn how to gain control of their email inbox and newsletter
subscriptions, best practices for following websites, and will learn how to gain clarity and fo-
cus amongst the seemingly infinite. With over one billion websites, managing content and
thus our biggest commodity, time, has become ever increasingly important.
This session will support teacher’s skills on the “other” side of the profession. Business man-
agement and communication, digital content consumption for professional development, and
our general daily online engagement. Teachers will learn how to sharpen their tools, re-
sources, and skills so they control their incoming information, the information doesn’t control
them.
