Student Council Lent Service Project: For our Lent

Service Project this year the student council has decided to collect items for the Randall Children’s Hospital lo-

cated in Portland. Here is a small list of needed items if you are interested in helping: Little People toys, stack-ing toys, trains, crayons, small Lego sets, arts and crafts

kits, board games. Please for the health and safety of the hospital patients, only bring new and unwrapped

items in their original package. They may be dropped off in the school lobby. Thank you for your generosity.

Brief Reflection: Embracing the cross of Jesus leads to everlasting life. The cross of shame in Jesus’ time has become for us the sign of victory over sin and death. Through his perfect sacrifice of love on the cross, Jesus won forgiveness for our sins and defeated the power of sin and evil. By so doing, Jesus transformed the cross from an instrument of death into the tree of life and source of our salvation.

The parish is getting ready to create a new photo directory and we need you to help make it complete! Our directory will showcase our families, provide contact information, and become a

useful resource to keep us connected. By participating, you will receive a printed version of the new directory, and a free 8x10 pho-to. If you choose to purchase photos from your session, we have 20% off coupons for anyone who signs up. We are also offering an additional $5 off coupon to those who bring canned food for the parish food bank the day of their photo session. I should let you know that purchasing photos is not required for participation in the event, so do not feel pressured to do so. We would like as many families as possible to join us in this because an updated and detailed directory is incredibly useful not only to the parish staff, but to current and new parishioners as well. In addition to this announcement, we will also be calling you to invite you to participate. The photographers will be at the parish office the weeks of May 10th thru 13th, and May 31st thru June 3rd. We will have an option for you to sign up for time slots online and we will have a table set up at the back of church after all of the masses from now June. Queridos hermanos y hermanas, espero que estamos continuando con nuestra jornada de Cuaresma. Usted está en mis oraciones, por favor oren por mí, para que sigamos juntos durante este tiempo sagrado. Quiero hacerles saber que Paula McNulty es nuestra nueva contadora. Cuando tengan la oportunida,vengan a conocerla y darle la

El 21 de marzo de 2017, tuve una reunión combinada con los miembros del consejo de finanzas, y los representantes del Consejo Pastoral y el Consejo Asesor de la escuela. Hemos abordado una serie de temas. En primer lugar, nos dirigimos a nuestra preocupación por la situación financiera de nuestra parroquia. Nos dimos cuenta de que se

necesita alrededor de $ 6,000 dolares semanalmente para que la parroquia funcione incluidos los servicios públicos y el personal.

También hay que destacar que la colecta de fin de semana es siempre alrededor de 3.000 $ por semana. Por supuesto, algunos pocos feligreses hacen donaciones en la oficina o en línea y que pueden elevar nuestro ingreso semanal de alrededor de $ 4.000 a veces. In the years 1916 and 1917, through the tutelage of an angel and the Blessed Mother, two young children were led to holiness in just a few short years. That tutoring began in the spring of 1916 with three visitations of the Guardian Angel of Portugal, apparitions which served as preparation for the visits the following year of the Mother of God. In the year 1917, in a mountainous region at the center of Portugal, the Mother of God appeared six times to three young children. Elsewhere on the continent the “Great War” raged, that would cost Europe an entire generation, over 37 million lives. Besides sending her own sons to die (in France and North Africa) Portugal was in political chaos at home.

We will celebrate Mass here at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, May 13th 2017 at 9 am and again on the first Saturday’s of the month in August, September, October.
