17 Steps For Recognizing and Responding To Warning
Signs Of Suicide
Each year, close to 800,000 people around the world die by suicide, according to the World Health Organization, and for every suicide, there are many more people who attempt it.
The thing is, suicide is preventable. And while prevention is a complex issue that involves many different factors — like collaboration between health care providers, individuals, friends, family members, and treatment services — it can start with recognizing the warning signs and taking them seriously.
To help you understand the warning signs of suicide and the most responsible and helpful ways to respond (and maybe save a life), BuzzFeed Health talked to Daniel Reidenberg, PsyD, executive director of Suicide Awareness Voices of Education and Eric Beeson, PhD, licensed counselor and professor at Counseling@Northwestern. Here's everything you should know.

We are pleased to announce that applications are open for the 10th year of the H.E. Wenner Scholar Program in Infectious Diseases. There is a single position each summer (8-10 weeks laboratory-based research) through the Division of Infectious Disease at Children's Mercy Hospital. The position is partially funded via an endowment from the family of the late Dr. Herbert A. Wenner, a seminal researcher in polio epidemiology and vaccine development and former Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Children's Mercy Hospital. The program is overseen by Rangaraj Selvarangan BVSc., Ph.D., D(ABMM) and Dr. Christopher Harrison, Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Infectious Diseases Research; with assistance from Douglas Swanson MD, Jennifer Schuster MD, and other ID faculty depending on the project for any given summer.
