April 30 – May 1, 2018
A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER
On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I am delighted to extend warm greetings to attendees and exhibitors in the Discovery 2018 conference, one of the country’s most premiere innovation to commercialization forums.
The rapidly changing global economy is transforming the way we live, work and play. We are taking action to make sure Ontario is a leader in this new economy. That is why we are investing in innovative ideas and fostering a highly skilled workforce to boost our province’s competitive advantage, create good jobs, and help people in their everyday lives.
Our government is proud to be a partner in Discovery 2018, a showcase of leading-edge technologies, best practices and groundbreaking research from the health, manufacturing, digital media and cleantech sectors. Every year at this conference, the Ontario Centres of Excellence inspires us by bringing the most innovative minds from leading industries together to foster collaboration, celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit and find new opportunities to lead.
I applaud the Ontario Centres of Excellence for organizing this conference. It is great to see stakeholders and thought leaders from industry, academia, the investment community, and government share the latest developments from their field, lay the groundwork for collaboration and partnerships, and work to get Ontario’s great ideas out to the marketplace.
Our government will continue to work with partners like the Ontario Centres of Excellence to strengthen our province’s position as a global leader in the innovation and knowledge economy.
Please accept my best wishes for another inspiring conference.

A Message from the Honourable Steven Del DucaMinister of Economic Development and Growth
On behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Growth, welcome to the 2018 Ontario Centres of Excellence Discovery Conference.
In today’s competitive global economy, creating a collaborative business environment ismore important than ever. That’s why the Ontario government supports initiatives like this conference to create partnerships among industry, academia, investors and the entrepreneurial community. These collaborations transform today’s best ideas into the technologies that will help drive our future economic prosperity.
Through Ontario’s Business Growth Initiative, we are creating the ideal environment in which these collaborations can thrive. The initiative includes strategic investments in transformative technologies to accelerate the growth of our economy, helping small and medium-sized firms scale-up, and lowering business costs through modernized regulations. These investments are expanding our research base, preparing the next generation of innovators and making it easier for people to do business in Ontario.
I would like to thank the OCE for organizing another outstanding conference and providing a venue for these critical collaborations to occur. I am sure that the connections that will bemade over the next few days will be a catalyst for exciting change.
Sincerely,
Steven Del DucaMinister
