FIRST THOUGHTS David Hull, Pastor
Easter was a wonderful day of worship here at First Baptist Church. As you arrived you were greeted by about 45 folks in bright yellow shirts who oered you a warm welcome and who took guests to the appropriate place for worship or Sunday School. Many thanks to all who oered this extra service to make Easter a special day – particularly for our guests.
In worship our musicians led us beautifully as we gave praise to God for the miracle of the resurrection.
Whether the music came from a praise band, orchestra, handbells, or choir – God was honored in a glorious way. Added to the beauty of music was the wonderful testimony of the ve people who were baptized on this day. What a joy to celebrate believers’ baptism on Easter Sunday! Two more came to be baptized as we concluded worship on Sunday. It was a special day.
Some have asked me today, “So how many came?” We had oered an additional worship service for Easter and an extra Sunday School class to encourage attendance. We placed ads on Facebook with invitations for people to come to worship. With this added emphasis, what was the result? We had 1846 in worship on Easter. How does that compare to previous Easters? Last year we had 1667 in attendance. The 581 people in attendance in First Fellowship this year was an increase over the 554 in the same service last year. The 1178 in the Sanctuary this year was more than the 1113 that were in the same service last year. And this year we added 87 people who came to the additional contemporary service at 10:30. The total of 1846 represents the highest attendance number that we have had on Easter since we began counting worship attendance ve years ago!
I am grateful to all who invited friends to be a part of our Easter worship celebration. Why don’t we just keep doing that very thing? The emphasis on the resurrection will continue this Sunday as we explore the dierence between a report of the resurrection and the experience of the resurrection. The story of Thomas in John 20:19-31 will be our Scripture passage. Perhaps you know someone who would love to receive an invitation to come to church with you. Don’t wait until next Easter – go ahead and invite your friend to come with you this Sunday.
We will still be thanking God for the resurrection as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. I look forward to seeing you as we worship together.

Perry County Mission Work Week and Sports Camp
Again this year we will go, work, and love people in Perry County,
Alabama. The dates for the construction work led by Gordon Perry will
be Sunday, June 26 though Friday, July 1. As usual, some will work the
whole week and some will come and go as their schedules allow.
The second Perry County mission work will be the sports camp on
Friday and Saturday, July 1st and 2nd. Also on that Saturday we will
have several Serving the City types of projects planned.
The wonderful part of serving in Perry County is that every skill and
gift can be used in some way to care and love the people. Please pray
about and consider going this year to serve in some way.
Watch for the interest meetings that will take place in May.
