Psalm 103:1-5Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalm 103:6-12The LORD works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel. The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

Matthew 12:41-42The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this genera-tion and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.

Sermon: “None Greater”Matthew 12:38-50

A fateful line has been crossed. The Holy has been called evil by the representatives of righteousness. Israel has maligned her Messiah. The greatest witness to Jesus’ messiahship is personally present in His anointing and He has been utterly blasphemed. Indeed, only an evil and adulterous generation could so jealously hate the One of whom there is none greater. In this passage, Jesus cues a most significant shift. In no uncertain terms, He indicts His generation of Israel for shamefully rejecting Him. He fearlessly asserts Himself to be the One of whom there is none greater.

I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer ArtI greet Thee, who my sure Redeemer art,My only trust and Savior of my heart,Who pain didst undergo for my poor sake;I pray Thee from our hearts all cares to take.

Thou art the King of mercy and of grace,Reigning omnipotent in every place;So come, O King, and our whole being sway;Shine on us with the light of Thy pure day.

Thou art the life, by which alone we live,And all our substance and our strength receive;Sustain us by Thy faith and by Thy power,And give us strength in every trying hour.

Thou hast the true and perfect gentleness,No harshness has Thou and no bitterness;O grant to us the grace we find in Thee,That we may dwell in perfect unity.

Our hope is in no other save in Thee;Our faith is built upon Thy promise free;Lord, give us peace and make us calm and sure,That in Thy strength we evermore endure.

Whate’er My God Ordains Is RightWhate’er my God ordains is right, His holy will abideth;I will be still whate’er He does, And follow where He guideth.He is my God, though dark my road;He holds me that I shall not fall;And so to Him I leave it all,And so to Him I leave it all. Whate’er my God ordains is right, He never will deceive me; He leads me by the proper path, I know He will not leave me.I take, content, what He has sent; His hand can turn my griefs away; And patiently I wait His day,And patiently I wait His day. Whate’er my God ordains is right, Though now this cup in drinking May bitter seem to my faint heart, I take it all, unshrinking. My God is true, each morn anew Sweet comfort yet shall fill my heart;And pain and sorrow shall depart,And pain and sorrow shall depart.

Whate’er my God ordains is right, Here shall my stand be taken;Though sorrow, need, or death be mine, Yet I am not forsaken.My Father’s care is round me there; He holds me that I shall not fall;And so to Him I leave it all,And so to Him I leave it all.

Yet Not I But Through Christ In MeWhat gift of grace is Jesus my redeemerThere is no more for heaven now to giveHe is my joy, my righteousness, and freedomMy steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace.To this I hold, my hope is only JesusFor my life is wholly bound to His.Oh how strange and divine,I can sing: all is mine!Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

The night is dark but I am not forsakenFor by my side, the Savior He will stay.I labor on in weakness and rejoicingFor in my need, His power is displayedTo this I hold, my Shepherd will defend meThrough the deepest valley He will leadOh the night has been won,And I shall overcome!Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

No fate I dread, I know I am forgivenThe future sure, the price it has been paidFor Jesus bled and suffered for my pardonAnd He was raised to overthrow the graveTo this I hold, my sin has been defeatedJesus now and ever is my pleaOh the chains are released,I can sing: I am free!Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

With every breath I long to follow JesusFor He has said that He will bring me homeAnd day by day I know He will renew meUntil I stand with joy before the throneTo this I hold, my hope is only JesusAll the glory evermore to HimWhen the race is complete,Still my lips shall repeat:Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Hymn Story “Whate’er My God Ordains Is RightThis beautiful hymn was written by Samuel Rodigast in 1676 to comfort a sick friend. In it he lays out what it means to deal with the problem of pain and suffering through the perspective of faith. Our God is sovereign and full of love, and every cir-cumstance he brings us through is good and right and true. His promise is that he will never leave us in the midst of any adversity through which he takes us.

This song reminds us that all things are from the hand of God. And like Job, who attributed all his recent tragedies to the hand of God (“the Lord, gave, and the Lord has taken away”), when we affirm this truth we are not charging God with wrong. For, as this song so beautifully affirms again and again, God’s sovereign hand brings about what is right. Our response is to trust God and to be content through the pain. In the midst of difficult things brought by his hand, God himself is helping us (“he holds me that I should not fall”), and we look forward to the day when all suffering will be over (Patiently I wait his day”).

Whate’er my God ordains is right, Here shall my stand be taken;

Though sorrow, need, or death be mine, Yet I am not forsaken.

My Father’s care is round me there; He holds me that I shall not fall;

And so to Him I leave it all,And so to Him I leave it all.

MISSIONARY FEATURENathan & Christiana WellsServing the People ofCambodia

Our desire is that the Gospel would be proclaimed, that follow-ers of Jesus would be matured and discipled in the faith, that bib-lical resources would be developed for the Cambodian church, and that we would respond in compassionate acts of mercy to those who are in need, in the name of Christ.

Please remember to pray for our missionaries as they face shelter-in-place challenges in their various areas of ministry. Some current praises and prayer requests:

Praise the Lord that their son, Paton, has fully recovered from walking pneu-monia, and had no seizures! Pray as we produce the Jesus Storybook Bible videos in the Khmer lan-guage that funds would be raised to cover costs and that the Lord would use the videos for His glory in the lives of children throughout Cambodia. Pray as we release the New City Catechism in Khmer. Pray that funds to print it will be raised and that it will be a useful tool for churchesin Cambodia.

Trinity Bible Church is suspending all events other than our 10:30 AM Sunday gathering until May.

We are stewards of life. We are not to neglect wisdom, responsibility, and care for one another in difficult times. But above all, we rest in the sovereign Lord who gives to all life, breath, and all things. In the midst of alarm, we who are in Christ discipline our minds to “not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanks-giving let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6). Rather than being anx-ious about our health, may we seek God and His kingdom first (Matthew 6:25-34).Faith rather than fear shall govern us, because of Christ.
