April 2018 SHARING ACOUSTIC MUSIC for 34 YEARS Issue 396 www.silverstrings.org PRESIDENT'S CORNER______ Terry Kozlowski Happy Easter to all our members! Club relocation update: In case some members are not aware, I would like to restate the memberships’ decision to relocate our club. The main reason for considering a move is to locate a site that is handicap accessible. A number of our members are handicapped or medically challenged. The flight of steps to go up to our meeting room is quite a chore, especially if you’re carrying a hammer dulcimer, stand, chair and/or additional instruments as well. Then there is the issue of going down and up two flights of stairs to the rest rooms. Reviewing this scenario, I’d say our club has been very fortunate that no one has been injured. The board, Marsha and I reviewed approximately 10 possible sites. Of all the sites reviewed, the best was Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Livonia. Holy Cross was suggested by a club member who noted my March plea. It is located about 3 or 4 blocks east of Merriman on Six Mile Road. We performed a Christmas concert at this facility last December. It has all the amenities that our club requires. The only glitch is there is no room for our storage cabinets. Currently SSDS has four cabinets. I believe we can purge the four down to three cabinets. So another plea to our members, I need ideas as to the relocation of these cabinets? MERCHANDISE - FOR SALE! SOME EVEN FREE! We are going to purge our cabinets so look for a lot of free merchandise at our “For Sale”, “Free” tables located next to the kitchen. If you have musical items to sell or donate, bring them to our next meeting night. Library Program Update: There are three more programs scheduled and listed below. These programs are our part of a “play it forward” mission as we introduce, educate our music instruments to curious people. If you haven’t participated, consider doing so. The playlist is ten of our most played tunes.

Thank you to those who have taken brochures and information to your local library. While none have scheduled yet, I will follow up in hopes of doing 1-2 more in October or November. Or as gardeners always say, “There is always next year.” Playlists: April-July – check the newsletter, there is a slight change in the play order but otherwise the same as was published in March. Review the list, dust off those tunes not played since last year. Evart playlist – We have the slot 6:40 on Thursday as the last pre-show performance. The theme will be “Going West”. Attire will be cowboy hats and Western wear (jeans, etc.). The preliminary list of tunes for consideration is ready for review. Pick up a list on the table. Also sign the list if you think you might be going. This is not a commitment but gives me an idea of who/what instruments/how many for planning purposes. Tune of the Month: Bard of Armagh (Streets of Laredo) is the April tune of the month. A very simple waltz, it is associated with the West and allow us to easily feature a number of our other instruments like the harmonicas at the Evart performance. It is in the key of C……….…………Marsha

~ Harmonica Happenings ~

Attention Harmonica players or “wanna be” players. "Heavy Breathers" harmonica group will meet on the 3rd Thursdays of each month, at 6:00pm. We will meet just before the SSDS jam. Bring a "C" harmonica, and "G" and "D" if you have them. Even though our turnout of players has been low, the group has decided to meet on a regular basis for awhile. Bob Hlavacek and Karen Turner
