Dues: Dues for 2017 are due and payable by March 1st. Dues paid after March 31st will incur a $25.00 late fee and get your gate card shut off until your dues are paid. Don’t let this happen to you. Pay your dues before March 1st. Incom-plete Registration Form: Every year we have members who fail to completely fill out the registration form. This causes us lots of extra work tracking the member down to get the information. This year instead of returning the registra-tion to the member or trying to track them down for the need-ed information we will cash the check and send the member

a post card telling him what information we need. If the information is not returned by March 31st the mem-ber’s gate card will be turned off until we have the needed information. Provided you have paid the required dues and fees you will be a member and may use the range but your gate card will not work until the required information is provided. We need all the information on the form to keep our records correct. Please help us out by providing it when you complete the form the first time. Please provide proof of NRA membership with your registration or pay your NRA dues with your membership payment. Life members do not need to provide proof of NRA membership unless you became a NRA Life member in 2016 or 2017 in which case you must provide proof of that. Friends of the NRA Banquet: The second Pioneer Friends of the NRA banquet was held on March 4th. The event generated $14,000, most of which will go to youth groups in the state of Missouri. Thanks to Ty Markel for organizing the event and to all who helped put it on and who bought tickets and tables. Work Day: Work day was held on February 25th. Target frames were repaired and backers replaced on all ranges, plumbing repairs were made and trash picked and hauled off. Thanks to Bob Hudson for leading this event and to all who helped. The range looks a lot better because of your efforts. Election for Club Officers: The election will be held in August. Many of the current officers have decid-ed not to run again so it is time for other club members to step up and take over these positions. At this time the expected vacancies are: President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Membership Chairman, General Membership Representative and Range Officer. In addition, we will need someone to do the New Member Orientation. This is your club. Step up and help with the operation of it. Baffles: At long last the construction of the baffles on range 8 has begun. Roof is being installes as fast pos-sible. Monday Trap Shooting: The Monday Trap shooting will begin on the first Monday of April. Bring a friend, your gun and shells and be prepared to have a good time. This is just for fun –and bragging rights for some. Beginners are welcome and there will be experienced shoot-ers to help you become successful. Shooting starts about 5:30 and lasts until we run out of shells or it gets too dark to see. Come join the fun. Monday Work Crew: For several years there has been a small group of dedicated Pioneer members who come out on Monday’s to work on various projects at McBride. These gentlemen spend a lot of their time keeping things working and repaired. Bob Hudson deserves a lot of credit for keeping this group together and work-ing. Joe Tapko, who is one of the stars of this group, finally had his knee operated on in January and has just now returned to fix his gourmet lunches for the group. If you come out on Monday’s why not stop and help them out—it is your club too. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Tools are furnished and lunch is free. Last Monday they installed electricity to the new shotgun stor-age building and put up gutters. They also poured another concrete bench top to be installed on the rifle range.

HI-POWER By the time you read this newsletter, our first match should be in the books. At this time, I am not planning on registering our matches with CMP this year. However, if I get enough feedback asking for it, I will register the June – September matches. Since the matches aren't registered, we will be charging $5 per relay. I will be in Chicago

during our May match. Mike Baum has agreed to run it for me. Be sure to check the calendar before heading out, in case we have to cancel a match. Finally, I really need a backup to help me with the division. I hope to see you at the range [email protected]. Thanks, James Smoots CMP/ High Power Director

USPSA

Come shoot indoor every Tuesday at Brickyard and the last Sun-day of every month Outside at Mcbride Start in Spring again.

Action Pistol shooting schedule for April, 2017: Wednesday evening practice sessions – Brickyard, 5 p.m. – Mar. 29, Apr. 12, and Apr. 26. – These practice sessions are lots of fun and open to everyone. They are a great informal way to find out about Action Pistol. New shooters are always welcome. Outdoor monthly matches at McBride will start the SUNDAY, April 2. These monthly matches will continue through the Summer on the

FIRST SUNDAY of each month. Outdoor monthly matches at McBride will start the first SUNDAY in April (April 2). Upcoming Action Pistol Events to plan for: Crawfish Cup - Lake Charles, Louisiana - April 21 and 22 PGC Flagler Cup – McBride – May 20 and 21 (We have a great need for volunteer workers, range officers, etc. ) Bianchi Cup – Columbia, Missouri – May 24 thru 27

Starting this year, I cannot head up the score team for scoring at the Cast Bullet Association National Match in September on the 9th and 10th. I am willing to train some members to score group targets and score targets for this great organization. We have special instruments to measure group tar-gets for them. We need 3 people each day (for 2 days) to score, but I would like to have 4 each day to relieve each other off and on. This is a great way to learn the proper way to score targets, using measuring devices and scor-ing plugs. If you are willing to help, please call me at 816-333-7559 and we will get together on this. We will also be needing other help with this match; a range officer, I would like to have 3 or 4 so we don’t wear one person out over two days of shoot-

ing. Also help with changing targets and backers at the 100 yards range on Saturday and the 200 yard range on Sunday. The kitchen help is handled by my wife, who is also a club member, Theresa. You may leave a message for her at the same number if you want to help out.

We are finished for the season with the Bullseye Winter League. We will start back up on Monday November 6, 2017. Best guess is we will cancel the Monday December 25, 2017 “Christmas Day” and we might cancel Monday January 1, 2018 “New Year’s Day”? We would be finished up next season late March or early April. We are shooting the same courses of fire both at 50 feet with rimfire pistols only and 25 yards with either centerfire or rimfire pistols. We will continue to alternate between 50ft and 25yards each week. Both Bill Kloeckner and Park A. Wood will continue to run this division of Bullseye. Outdoor & any special indoor bullseye matches, please contact Eric Pearson. The final scores for the season are:

We had 11 different shooters this season that shot 104 matches this season.

And that’s all folks, until next season!

.22 Games – It’s all over for the season. Of all the competitors we had this season, 30 competed at least three different nights. Only Ken Keifer, Sarah and I made all 18 nights this season. Half the competitors were club members and of the remaining 20 non-members, 7 of them joined us because of being related to a club member who competes. This season we had 475 rifle and pistol matches shot by 40 differed competi-tors and distributed 187 cash awards totaling $1,487 this season. Congratula-tions to all! We will return in the fall for the 2017-2018 season at the end of October. Stay tuned for more information via Facebook and email. There are already some

ideas brewing for the matches and finale next season. Thanks to all the people who helped this season –Sarah, Tim O’Bryan, Steve Tuttle, Andy Cox and George Monahan. A big THANK YOU to all the competi-tors because without you this would not be possible.

PIONEERGUNCLUB–APRIL2017

Welcome to Pioneer! All New Members!!

A lot of information about divisions was presented at the membership class, please take the time to come to

a practice or match event and try your hand at something new!

Junior Shooting News, by Ed Camp Our juniors still meet on every Thursday (except meeting nights) from 5pm to 10pm. We need more kids! This past year we have run very low on kids wanting to learn to be marksman. This is not unique to our club, but it seems to be common around the state and in the shooting industry.

The cost of this training is only $5 a night and covers the cost of ammunition and targets. We supply the ri-fles, shooting coats, gloves and just about everything else. I like the kids to be 12 years old and strong enough to hold a rifle, sometimes I will take them a year younger IF they are mature and big enough to handle firearms. We do not baby-sit, so don’t ask me if your 6 or 9 year old can come. Sometimes we teach sport-pistol an Olympic event with 22 caliber pistols. Give me a call at 816-333-7559 to find out more about this training and great sport.

Hunting season is quickly approaching. Time to practice with your bows.

The archery ranges are ready for spring. The grass is short and the bugs are not out in force, so it is a good time to get in some shoot-ing. We added a new Target at the Brickyard range. Markers are placed in the ground at 10, 20, 30, and 40 yards. The target is located just west of the indoor range and is ready for use.

Come on out an enjoy the archery range

Bench Rest Shooting, by Ed Camp This club used to be a very large Bench-Rest shooting club, lately the crowd has got-ten smaller at their matches. I think this is because our members do not understand what it is all about. You don’t need a lot of fancy equipment or a gun weighting 60 pounds. They shoot 22 caliber rifles, hunting rifles and then the unlimited rifles. They shoot at 100 yards and 200 yards. So there is a class for all shooters, you don’t have to shoot each one. In the hunting rifle class you can use your regular hunting rifle, it doesn’t have to be a custom job

and shouldn’t be. You need a front rest or bag and a rear bag, one piece rests are not allowed. A spotting scope is very useful, with your membership in Pioneer you can get a discount at Bushnell to buy one if you don’t have one. I have seen them as low as $20 up to $900, so there is one for everyone’s budget. Shooting Bench-rest is fun and also a good way to “prove” that your hand loads are accurate. It is also a good way to learn to shoot in the wind. Come out and watch the first time and ask questions of our Director. Find out about this very fun shooting sport!

Club Elections This Year!, by Ed Camp Our Club Elections take place in August. This year there is going to be a “Changing of the Guard” with Jack Smart, and many others, not running again. Jack has been an outstanding President of our Club. So much advancement has been made, so many improvements made I don’t think I can name them all. I personally Thank Jack for all he has done. That being said, there are other fine officers and directors who are not going to run again. Many of them have been in office several years and are getting tired. A great THANK YOU is given to all these fine members who have given so much to Pioneer Gun Club. Think about running for an office. Be sure you can give the time to do a good job, it’s not hard but does take a few minutes to do so. Our Club is on a great journey in shooting sports and needs to keep heading forward, not stagnating. There are still many improvements that can be made, including a longer rifle range, possible picnic area among others. Give it a thought and let the Executive Board know. Thank You!

OK COWBOYS !!!!!!!!! Looks like the weather will let us have a match this Saturday April 1st. NO JOKE. May be a little muddy so dress to your liking. Sign in at 9:30am shooting at 10 Am We will try to have our next match on May 6th weather

permitting and nothing happens. Don't forget Snicklefritz will be having his big match in June. so we will not be shooting in June. any questions please call Lonesome @ 816-686-3840 or Cherokee @ 816-678-7307

“Scratching My Head”

by the New (old) Guy, Don Ross

After being gone from the Pioneer Gun Club for a few years I’ve recently rejoined. I’ve gone out to our very nice 100/200 yard rifle range a few times now and noticed the bullet holes in our nice/expensive baffles. There some very nice groups in them! After thinking about how they got there, I’ve got a few thoughts. I noticed most holes and groups seem to be towards the bottom edges of the baffles. If I were intentionally aiming at the baffles I would aim at the middle. Just like a real target, so I tend to believe these holes are not being shot on purpose (or at least I hope not!). Remember your first Red Ryder BB Gun? Remember you could see the BB travel? Remember to hit a can at 50 yards you had to aim 30 inches high to hit it? This was your first experience in “Trajectory” (how flat your projectile travels). You were amazed, right? Ok, now 10 or 15 years have passed and you haven’t done much shooting, off to school, life, whatever. Now you buy that rifle and scope, you’ve always wanted a 30-06. Off to the range we go thinking I’ll be hunting 100/200 yards so I’ll sight in at those ranges. You set up at 100 yards range and shoot. No holes in your 100 yard target? Why? You shoot 10 more shots, and still no holes to be found anywhere your target! Somewhere there is a nice group but where? Are you aiming 30 inches high like your Red Ryder? I doubt it, but it happens. I tend to believe your new scope hasn’t been properly sighted in at the Proper Range! Being involved in sev-eral sight-in days at our club I’ve seen some amazing things. People show up with their new scope/rifle combos and aim at a 100 yard target on target board #1 and hit #3! 15 feet to the right and 10 feet high or low. WOW! The safest thing in the wood is the deer! But we do have a dead baffle, not tasty but expensive! (NO we don’t shoot holes in the baffles at sight-in days, just making a point!) I’ve got to believe the holes in the baffles are created by scopes not being sighted in at the proper range. All new or any scope in doubt must be sighted in at the 25/50 yard range before moving to the 100/200 yard range! If done on the proper range, in the proper sequence the bullet holes in the baffles will crease, or at least I am hopeful. Several members over the years have expressed their desire for a 300/400/500/600 yard range. I can see it now; unsighted-in scopes setting up on a 600 yards range. Pretty Scarily Stuff! Pioneer Gun Club can & will be shut down if bullets leave the range. And the dream of a 600 yard range will never happen! ARE YOU THE SHOOTER PUTTING BULLETS IN THE BAFFLES? Think about it.
