Change? We’ve Always done it this Way! This session will focus on why your recommendation for changes just might be what your institution needs. We have heard all the excuses about “why it (change) won’t work” but have you as a leader thought about why it needs to work? Higher education is facing many challenges that they need to overcome; they are common no matter what institution you work for. It is time to evaluate your institution missions/goals and use tools to evaluate where and why change needs to take place. By attending this session participants will hear related stories, participate in activities, brainstorm, and learn new tips, tricks and tools to assist with change.

Mentoring: Mentors for Leaders, Time Commitments, and Reverse Mentoring

This interactive and engaging session will have 3 simultaneous roundtable discussions that will cover different aspects of mentoring that you can choose from. Each table will have a facilitator to guide and encourage participants along the way.

Table 1: Mentors for Senior Administrator/Leadership Positions Do you hope to move up to a role as an executive administrator? Come talk about what is expected in this type of position and how to find a mentor that will provide you with guidance as you advance in your career.

About the Facilitator Victoria J. Dutcher, M.B.A. Vice President for Enrollment ManagementUniversity of New Hampshire As vice president for enrollment management at UNH, Victoria Dutcher reports directly to the president and is responsible for undergraduate and graduate enrollment across all three UNH campuses – in Durham, Manchester and the law school in

Concord. The admissions office, financial aid, the registrar’s office and institutional research report to Dutcher. Throughout her 27-year career in college and university enrollment, Dutcher has worked with more than 100 institutions across the U.S. as well as two in Canada and two in Europe in strategic enrollment management. After establishing successful enrollment track records in full-time campus positions, she entered the consulting field for 15 years, eventually becoming vice president of consulting services at what is now Ruffalo Noel-Levitz and then president of Williams and Company. Over her 15 years as a consultant, Dutcher successfully led numerous enrollment efforts that reduced budget deficits, increased applicant pools and yield, and helped meet or exceed a variety of institutional goals. She has also served as the chief enrollment officer at several institutions during leadership transitions. Dutcher earned her bachelor of arts in marketing and management from Siena College and her MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Table 2: Mentor vs. Sponsor – Do I Have the Time? Are you in a place where you can be of value to others? How much of a time commitment is expected? This will be an opportunity for folks to ask the tough questions surrounding being a mentor and/or sponsor. See around that corner and help other women learn from your obstacles and challenges.

About the Facilitator Jamie E. Grogan Assistive Technology & Accessibility ConsultantSouthern New Hampshire University Jamie has worked extensively with the Campus Accessibility Center and Online Accessibility Center for Southern New Hampshire University. Her work with process development and policy integration allows students to access technology in an all-inclusive manner. Working one on one with students on the Help Desk to ensure their 3rd party solutions such as JAWS and Read Write, work properly across many platforms. With the online population growing globally the scope of

potential road blocks is astronomical. Staying dedicated to the students success and finding solutions keeps Jamie on the cutting edge of technology. Her current position marries 3 of her obsessions, learning, sharing and technology. These opportunities help women to create their own path. Table 3: Reverse Mentoring: Millennials Mentoring Baby Boomers

Reverse mentoring is not new but the idea has become more relevant lately. In reverse mentoring, younger employees work with executives to help them to understand new trends in social media, mobile technology and consumer preferences. Many Baby Boomers are staying in the workplace longer and maintaining appropriate skills through reverse mentoring helps these older employees to be more relevant. Reverse mentoring also helps prepare younger workers to fill the workforce as Baby Boomers exit the workplace. Exposing younger workers to more senior workers is a good way to accelerate the development of the junior worker. As with other mentoring programs, there is not a one size fits all. Program must be authentic to workplace culture. HR professions may foster informal programs as well, mentoring programs work best when there is affinity between the mentor and protégé. Attend this round table to learn:

• Successful ways reverse mentoring has been implemented • The difference between traditional mentoring and reverse mentoring • Reasons why you may want to explore using reverse mentoring in your

workplace.
