Top 10 Reasons Why I’m Catholic
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Twenty years ago, I was “welcomed home” to the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil at St. Mary’s Parish in Longview, Texas. Before that time, I had attended a few churches – mainly Baptist – with my friends in Tyler. I am thankful for the Bible verses and stories I learned during this formational time on my journey home, but I am especially thankful to have been introduced to Jesus Christ through these Christian communities. Becoming Catho-lic helped me to put the pieces all together: where the New Testament (NT) comes from; how we get to know and love Jesus; why He instituted the sacraments; what we need to do to be saved and how we need to live this salva-tion. The event of the Bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ that we celebrate on Easter Sunday is an opportunity for all — not just converts, but all the baptized — to reflect on the great gift of what it is to be a Christian. By our bap-tism, we share in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; we are made adopted sons and daughters of the Father; we are cleansed of sin and receive the infusion of grace into our souls by the Holy Spirit; and we are made members of Christ’s Body, the Church. The Catholic Church is the Church of the NT — not just a religion founded by someone’s interpretation of the NT. And while many non-Catholic Christians have sincere faith in and love for Our Lord, no other church can be historically traced back to Jesus Christ Himself. Because many who attend Easter Sunday Mass may not be regulars and may not even be Catholics, I would like to offer my personal “Top 10 Reasons” why I am a Catholic Christian: 1) The Eucharist. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ cannot be any more personal than receiving His living Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. 2) The New Testament. The Catholic Church was the only Church around when the gospels and epistles were written. The Pope and Bishops approved the canon of the NT in the 4th and 5th Centuries. We have 2,000 years of Scripture commentary by the early Church Fathers, popes, scholastics and saints. 3) Unchanging Doctrine and Morals. There is NT and early Church evidence of all Catholic teachings. In particular, the Catholic Church is the only church that never changed Christ’s teaching against divorce and artificial contraception. 4) The Blessed Virgin Mary. The first and greatest disciple, the human mother of the Second Person of the Trinity, our mother as those united to her divine Son; she constantly intercedes for us in heaven. 5) Ways to Pray. Lectio Divina, the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, devotions, Adoration, prayers written by the saints, oral and silent prayer, contemplation. There are as many ways to pray in the Catholic tradition as there are kinds of people. 5) Beautiful Art & Architecture. Beauty is a transcendental. Beauty reflects God. Arguably the most beau-tiful images and buildings in the world have been created in the Catholic tradition. 6) The Papacy. Francis, Benedict XVI, St. John Paul II (to name a few recents). When these men speak or act, the whole world pays attention. 7) The Saints. Mother Teresa, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Thomas More, St. Joan of Arc — just to name a few. They show us Jesus in dark times. 8) Education, Healthcare, Scientific Method, Free-Market Economics, Natural Law Ethics. The monas-tic tradition and religious orders of the Catholic Church were responsible for pioneering these services and ideas. 9) Confession. Jesus working through His priests helps us to have assurance that our sins are forgiven and directs us to constant conversion. 10) Culture. Academic regalia, meatless Fridays, chant and classical music, Italian multi-course meals with lots of wine, great books and movies, bingo (need I say more?); 2,000 years of Christ inundating culture.

Las 10 Razones Principales Por qué soy Católico
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, Hace veinte años, Yo fui "bienvenido a casa" a la Iglesia Católica en la Vigilia Pascual en la Parroquia de Santa María en Longview, Texas. Antes de ese momento, había asistido a algunas iglesias, principalmente bautistas, con mis amigos en Tyler. Estoy agradecido por los versículos de la Biblia y las historias que aprendí durante este tiempo de for-mación en mi camino a casa, pero estoy especialmente agradecido por haber conocido a Jesucristo a través de estas comu-nidades Cristianas. Convertirme en Católico me ayudó a unir todas las piezas: de dónde viene el Nuevo Testamento (NT); cómo podemos conocer y amar a Jesús; por qué instituyó los sacramentos; qué debemos hacer para ser salvos y cómo de-bemos vivir esta salvación. El evento de la Resurrección Corporal de Jesucristo que celebramos el domingo de Pascua es una oportunidad para todos -no solo conversos, sino todos los bautizados—para reflexionar sobre el gran regalo de lo que es ser Cristiano. Por nuestro bautismo, compartimos la muerte y la resurrección de Jesucristo; somos hechos hijos e hijas adoptivos del Padre; somos purificados del pecado y recibimos la infusión de la gracia en nuestras almas por el Espíritu Santo; y somos hechos miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo, la Iglesia. La Iglesia Católica es la Iglesia del NT - no solo una religión fundada por la interpretación que alguien hace del NT. Y aunque muchos Cristianos no Católicos tienen una fe sincera y amor por Nues-tro Señor, ninguna otra iglesia puede remontarse históricamente a Jesucristo mismo. Debido a que muchos de los que asisten a la Misa del Domingo de Pascua pueden no ser asiduos y tal vez ni siquiera son Católicos, me gustaría ofrecer mis "10 principales razones " por las que soy Cristiano Católico:
1) La Eucaristía. Una relación personal con Jesucristo no puede ser más personal que recibir Su Cuerpo, Sangre, Alma y Divinidad vivientes.
2) El Nuevo Testamento. La Iglesia Católica fue la única Iglesia alrededor cuando se escribieron los evangelios y epístolas. El Papa y los obispos aprobaron el canon del Nuevo Testamento en los siglos IV y V. Tenemos 2.000 años de comentarios bíblicos de los primeros Padres de la Iglesia, Papas, escolásticos y santos.
3) Doctrina y Moral Incambiable. Hay NT y evidencias de todas las enseñanzas Católicas de la Iglesia primiti-va. En particular, la Iglesia Católica es la única iglesia que nunca cambió la enseñanza de Cristo contra el divorcio y la anticoncepción artificial.
4) La Santísima Virgen María. El primer y más grande discípulo, la madre humana de la Segunda Persona de la Trinidad, nuestra madre como aquellos unidos a su divino Hijo ; ella intercede constantemente por nosotros en el cielo.
5) Formas de Orar. Lectio Divina, el Rosario, la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia, las devociones, la Adora-ción, las oraciones escritas por los santos, la oración oral y silenciosa, la contemplación. Hay tantas formas de orar en la tradición Católica así como hay diferente tipo de personas
) Hermosa Arte y Arquitectura. La belleza es una trascendencia. La belleza refleja a Dios. Podría decirse que las imágenes y edificios más bellos del mundo se han creado en la tradición Católica.
6) El Papado. Francisco, Benedicto XVI, San Juan Pablo II (por nombrar algunos recientes). Cuando estos hom-bres hablan o actúan, todo el mundo presta atención.
7) Los Santos. Madre Teresa, San Francisco de Asís, Santo Tomás Moro, Santa Juana de Arco, solo por nombrar algunos. Ellos nos muestran a Jesús en tiempos oscuros.
8) Educación, Salud, Método Científico, Economía de Mercado Libre , Ética de la Ley Natural. La tradición monástica y las órdenes religiosas de la Iglesia Católica fueron responsables de ser pioneros en estos servicios e ideas.
9) Confesión. Jesús trabajando a través de Sus sacerdotes nos ayuda a tener la seguridad de que nuestros pecados están perdonados y nos dirige a la constante conversión.
10) Cultura. Atuendos académicos, viernes sin carne, cantos y música clásica, comidas Italianas de varios platos con mucho vino, libros y películas geniales, bingo (¿necesito decir más?); 2,000 años de Cristo inundando la cultura.

Parents as you all know, Father Lowry is trying to rai-se money for new pews and flooring for our church by asking for as many people or groups to donate $2,000.00 per pew and I would like Faith Formation as a whole to participate by gathering funds for one pew the goal is for each class is to collect $110 dollars but the class with most collections will get a pizza party please divide the $110.00 by the amount of students in your class and that is the amount that each student should donate but if they bring more that would be great !!!! Let’s try our best to help our church.

Padres como todos ustedes saben, el padre Lowry está tratando de recaudar dinero para nuevas bancas y pisos para nuestra iglesia pidiéndole a las personas o a los grupos que donen $ 2,000.00 por banca y me gustaría que Formación de la Fe se junten y participen recaudan-do fondos para una banca el objetivo es que cada clase recolecte $ 110 dólares pero la clase que colecte más dinero recibirá una fiesta con pizza. Divida los $ 110.00 por la cantidad de estudiantes en su clase y esa es la cantidad que cada estudiante debe donar, pero si traen más que sería genial !!!! Hagamos lo mejor para ayudar a nuestra iglesia.

En el 2018 les seguimos pidiendo de favor
que si usted tiene un asunto que tratar con el
padre llame a la oficina para hacer una cita. Si
necesita una fecha para boda, quinceañera,
presentación de 3 años o bautizo llame a la
oficina para escoger su fecha. Si quiere man-
dar decir una Misa por favor pase a la oficina
o llame entre semana trate de no llegar an-
tes de la Misa con su petición. También hay
una carpeta con una hoja para que anote su
petición, llénela y póngala dentro de la carpe-
ta se recogerá al siguiente día. Por favor tra-
temos que el padre pueda descansar después
de cada Misa no lo detengamos con pregun-
tas que pueden esperar. A el le gusta hablar
con la gente y convivir después de la Misa de
las 12:30. Por favor cuidemos a nuestro sa-
cerdote que a sido una bendición para nues-
tra iglesia.
