Ouro Preto [Ecoturismo] A trip to Ouro Preto isn’t made up of just cultural heritages. For those who like to take walks in nature and along trails there is no lack of good options in Ouro Preto – from the urban area to the historic trail on the Estrada Real. Parque Horto dos Contos Horto dos Contos Park The Horto dos Contos Park is a green area situated in the central region of Ouro Preto, from which one of the most beautiful and peculiar views of the city is revealed. To get through the entire park takes about 40 minutes. It’s a surprising walk, since the altitude varies from 1,584m, in the Botanical Gardens, to 346m in the Vale dos Contos. While walking through the park, pass along the side and under the bridge of the Casa dos Contos. Address: Entrance I –Padre Rolim Street, near the bus station Entrance II –Américo Lopes Square, on the sideline of the Matriz do Pilar Open Hours: Tuesdays - Sundays, from 7:00 to 17:00 During daylight saving time, the visitation hours will be altered.

Parque Estadual do Itacolomi Itacolomi State Park If you wish to climb to the summit of the Itacolomi Peak, set aside an entire Day and consult the park administration office about a guided tour. For those who don’t have much time and aren’t up to walking long distances, there is the possibility of taking an up to 2km walk to become acquainted with the historic nucleus of the park which is formed by the Casa Bandeirista, headquarters of the former São José do Manso farm, by the Tea Museum and by the São José Chapel. Parque Municipal da Cachoeira das Andorinhas Waterfall of the Swifts Municipal Park A natural area, of 575 hectares, that is home to the spring of the Rio das Velhas, waterfalls and walking trails. The Biscutate Swifts that inhabit this area during the summer were the inspiration for the name of the waterfall that gives the park its name. The park is part of the Cachoeira das Andorinhas Environmental Protection Area. Address: Morro de Santana / São João Open Hours: daily, from 6:00 to 18:00

Trilha do Chafariz – Estrada Real Fountain Trail Very near to the urban area of Ouro Preto, there is an unpaved part of the Estrada Real. The trail received this name because of the monument dated 1782 that is located on it at Km 5. Location: Leaving the Tiradentes Square, follow Padre Rolim Street, in the direction of Belo Horizonte, along the BR-356. At the interchange to Mariana, take the dirt road on the right. After beginning on the descent, take a left, passing by the main entrance. The trail begins at this point. At the end of the trail, it is possible to arrive at the Doutor Rocha Lagoa settlement if one keeps going straight. Total route of the trail to the village: 14 km

Floresta Estadual de Uaimii State Forest of Uaimii

Besides being the first state forest of Minas, houses an important remnant of the Atlantic Forest. They are 16ha that forms the biggest forest of Minas Gerais. It has springs that give rise to the Rio das Velhas. Great trails and waterfalls. Address: Road to Acuruí, District of São Bartolomeu - (31) 3915-1345

On BR 356 – Highway of Inconfidentes enter on the junction to the left, direction Acuruí.
