busy month, Mothers day, Easter and the

long awaited Royal Wedding between

This does mean that we actually have about 3 days

Ok, moan over, I will of course enjoy all three of

the above events and hope you do to.

If you have any stories you would like to share

with everyone in Sprotbrough, or have any events

planned locally, please send me the details before

the early deadline for the May issue, Friday 8th

April. The May issue will also be delivered slightly

later than normal from Thursday 28th April, but all

Inconsiderate parking

The number of inconsiderate parking complaints

to Doncaster Council has increased over the

last few months. The Council wishes to raise

awareness of the concerns of local residents in

the area with regards to drivers parking

inconsiderately and spoiling grass verges or obstructing the highway.

Where parking restrictions (yellow lines) have

been introduced, they have been done so for

reasons of road safety and where parking

problems have occurred, for example outside

local shops and schools.

Doncaster Council is working in partnership to

make your community cleaner, safer and

greener and would kindly remind all drivers to

follow the rules and guidance set out in the

Highway Code. Council staff will be out on

patrol to enforce any motorist caught parking in

breach of restrictions and will be issued with a

£70 penalty charge notice.

THE M25 HOUSING AND

SUPPORT GROUP are very

pleased to announce that they have

recently been granted funding from

Doncaster Supporting People to establish

Nightstop within the Doncaster Region.

Doncaster Nightstop will offer vulnerable

young people who are homeless or at risk

of becoming homeless short term

accommodation in the homes of

volunteers. Accommodation is arranged

night by night whilst the young person is

helped to find a lasting solution to their

housing needs. Some young people only

need a night‘s breathing space whereas for

others it may lead on to a wide range of

accommodation options suitable to their

needs.

M25 are looking for volunteers who can

help us make a positive impact on the lives

of vulnerable young people. If you have a

spare room and time to listen and give

support to a young person who may be in

distress then we would like to hear from

you. We offer comprehensive training and

support and volunteers will be provided

with financial assistance to cover expenses.

Even if you can only spare one night a

month we still want to hear from you ý

that one night can make all the difference.

April ’s Beauty Quote Our hearts are drunk

with a beauty our eyes could never see.

~George W. Russell

Dear Reader,It has been brought to my attention many times over the years

that people have misconceptions about beauty salons - from what I can gather they think

they are 'pretty' and 'girly' and just about 'make-up' and 'nails'. I often hear: ' Oh! I

couldn't possibly have a manicure - my nails are a mess!' But surely - that's when you

need us???? Just a tidy up of the cuticles and removal of dead skin cells from the nail plate

can make nails look phenomenally better. So this month I thought I would consider the

benefits of visiting a salon and what to 'suss out' when you get there.

Firstly: why would you visit a beauty salon? It's not all about beautifying. Don't get me

wrong - that side can be lovely, and it is nice to have nails that look absolutely stunning

and a facial that makes your skin look healthy and youthful, but over the years salons have changed and have

become more paramedical, concentrating much more on overall well-being by introducing more clinic-type

treatments alongside the traditional pampering ones. Over the next few months I am going to cover these

specialised treatments and explain how they could benefit you. On a daily basis I hear: 'Oh! I didn't know

you could do that!' so educating everybody is going to be my mission!

Before you commence any treatment, though, do your research. It is important to make sure you can be

confident you are to be treated at a salon with a tradition of high professional standards. Are you routinely

asked to complete a consultation and consent form? Are there appropriate insurance certificates clearly on

display? Are strict hygiene procedures - for example, to equipment - applied in preparation for and during

your treatment. If the answer to any of these questions is not an emphatic ‗Yes!‘ then please beware – your

health and well-being could be at risk!!

Advanced Cosmetic Procedures are not commonly associated with beauty salons.

Here is a list of the skin disorders and blemishes that can be successfully treated:

Thread veins

Xanthoma

Blood spots

Age spots

Moles

Spider Naevi

Verrucae

Molluscum Contagiosum

Milia

Skin Tags

Common & Plantar warts

Seborrhoeic warts

Sebaceous Cysts

Syringoma

Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra

Hairs in Moles

ACP treatments are safe and effective and offer instantaneous results in many cases. Length of treatment very

much depends on the problem and your skin specialist will advise you of this although it is difficult to state a

definitive time.

The area worked on must not be over treated and your skin reactivity will be taken into account. Spacing

technique and treatment intervals will be carefully considered in a treatment plan as well as taking into ac-

count your requirements, needs and wishes.

Your skin specialist will be pleased to offer you a consultation and price estimate.

All of these treatments are available in Perfect Harmony and can be of a huge benefit to many people.

Laura Gilligan, 27 , originally from

Sprotbrough, Doncaster owns and runs

independent letting agency 3Keys Property

Ltd… We asked Laura to share the story of

her success in business so far….

I originally set up the business in 2006 when I was

on maternity leave from my job in recruitment, I

had always had a passion for property and wanting

a career change I began studying a home-learning

style package to gain an understanding re; the legal

side of lettings. Working from my spare room at

home I began canvassing landlords and slowly

developed a client base. By 2007 the business was

demanding more of my time, so I took on the

Rossington office and a member of staff to assist

me. I had my second daughter in 2008. In the past

3 years as well as raising 2 girls, the business has

steadily grown, I currently employ 4 staff members

and we have out-grown our Rossington office. As

such, I am very proud to announce as a result of

our continued success we will be opening a second

office, this will be more central, based at Town

End, Doncaster (on the old North Bridge). The

Rossington office will remain open. 3Keys

Property Ltd is an ARLA (Association of

Residential Lettings Agents) licensed agent,

working to the highest standards in the industry

we have a reputation for our hard work and

delivering results and continue to maintain

excellent relationships with our landlord clients

(please let me know if you would like a testimonial

from one of our landlords to add to the editorial?).

As a result of the expansion I am taking on 2

additional agents and an administrator to staff the

new office. Working full time and raising two

young children hasn‘t proved an easy task, but the

2 girls in my life who are my inspiration and who I

am doing this for, Sienna (4) & Faith (2) just make

everything worthwhile.

We will be running special offers to celebrate the

opening of our new office including reduced letting

fees for new clients and discounts for existing

landlords. We are also having an Open day on

Saturday 7th May 10am - 2pm, welcoming all

landlords both new and existing to call in for a

glass of bubbly and meet the staff for an informal

chat.

In the current climate with a lack of movement in

the sales market more and more people are

turning to letting their properties; an increased

number of property owners are finding themselves

becoming landlords as a means to achieve an

income on static empty properties. The problem

here is that many new landlords are inexperienced

in this field and often choose an agent without

really knowing what they should be looking for: as

ARLA members and because we subscribe to the

Property Ombudsman our clients can be assured

that our staff are trained / qualified to deal with

their (most often) valuable asset, their home.

What‘s more, many new landlords are unaware

that they could be breaching terms of their

mortgage by not using an appropriately qualified

agent. My advice to anyone thinking about letting

their property, would be do your research - lots of

new lettings agents are opening up, equally many

established estate agents are setting up a lettings

divisions, many under-cutting each offer by offering

excellent discounted rates which of course are

very appealing in the current economic climate

where we appreciate everybody is watching their

finances, however my closing though on this is the

wrong choice of agent at the outset could end up

costing you much more in the long run.

email [email protected]

pay hundreds of pounds to experience it,‖ he

continues. ―Our bands not only sound like the real

thing, but also give such a good performance that

you may as well be watching the real band

themselves – the only difference with our festival is

that the beer prices stay the same!‖

Shane Crofts from Coldplace agrees: ―This will be

our fifth year touring with Fake Festivals and we

have seen it grow and grow. Each year it just gets

better and better – the crowds are bigger and the

atmosphere is always electric. It‘s a special gig for

us, each and every one we play.‖

This year though not only can you get to see

lookalike bands who sound amazing, but you may

just also get the chance to become a lookalike

yourself thanks to a competition run by the Fake

Faces agency.

To enter, simply make sure you‘re at the festival

before 2pm dressed as a lookalike, complete an

application form and have some photos taken. A

photographer will then choose the best entry and

the winner will not only be taken onto the agency‘s

books, but also grab themselves free drinks for the

rest of the festival.

―Matt Durkin found fame on Britain‘s Got talent

Jez. ―Who knows who we‘ll find this year? One

thing‘s for sure, someone at each festival is going

up leaving as one!‖

2011 FAKE FESTIVAL

TOUR SHAPING UP TO

BE EVEN BETTER THAN

THE REAL THING THIS

SUMMER

Fake Festivals is back at Sandall Park on

May 21st bigger and better than ever!

Thanks to the biggest Fake Festivals Tour to date

due to take place this summer, 2011 should see

more towns than ever throughout Lincolnshire,

Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire, be able to

experience festival fever right on their doorstep.

With more dates and performances from some of

the best tribute bands in the world, it‘s the perfect

destination for your festival fix – enjoy all the

atmosphere of a festival minus the two hundred

mile round trip in a car buckling under camping

gear and monsoon friendly clothing!

Featuring celebrated acts from previous tours

including Coldplace, Antarctic Monkeys and

Oasish, it‘s a festival that can make a guarantee like

no other – the British weather can‘t ruin it!

Each one is held inside a marquee (no juggling with

your brolly and pint of lager whilst rain drips down

your nose here) with the bands taking to a main

stage boasting a state of the art sound and lighting

system. To capture that real festival vibe, there‘s

also a secured area with a variety of food stalls,

face painting and other activities such as surfing.

―With this year seeing extra Fake Festival dates

happening in Worksop, Otley, Barnsley,

Rotherham and Thorne, the 2011 tour‘s shaping up

to be the biggest and best yet,‖ explains Jez Lee,

founder of the event.

―The idea of Fake Festivals was always to bring that

authentic festival feeling to your home town

instead of having to travel hundreds of miles and

Doncaster Advanced Motorists

Speed and Acceleration

Dear readers,

Knowing when to use your car‘s power and when to take it easy are skills which every driver needs to

master. It isn‘t about driving around at a snails pace, its about using power and acceleration wisely,

smoothly and safely.

Power is nothing without control. This is true of all aspects of driving and a maxim the Advanced Driver

lives by.

A powerful sports car is at best wasted and at worst deadly in the hands of the amateurish or lazy driver.

Never abuse your car‘s power. Instead learn how the car delivers its power then use the experience to

make the most of it by driving as safely, smoothly, and as progressively as possible. Firm acceleration is

sometimes necessary –when joining a motorway or when overtaking for example but to make the best

use of your car‘s power band takes practice and an understanding of the way it delivers its torque (the

power that creates acceleration).

Being in the wrong gear at the wrong time can ‗bog‘ the engine down, restricting the car‘s acceleration

and possibly putting you in a hazardous situation. It‘s important to learn which part of the rev band deliv-

ers the most torque and acceleration. This will ensure you select the right gear for the conditions and the

job in hand.

Test your sense of deceleration.

Here‘s a useful way to test your sense of deceleration. The next time you‘re driving along the road at the

national speed limit and see a 30mph or 40mph speed limit sign ahead, try to time the point at which you

‗lift off‘ the accelerator so that the car reaches the

speed limit sign at the correct speed, without the

need to touch the brakes.

On twisty roads you can take this technique a stage

further by managing the speed of the car between the

bends with accurate use of the accelerator. This will

limit the amount of braking you need to do, produc-

ing a smoother, more satisfying drive.

With smooth road surfaces and powerful, quiet cars,

it can take serious concentration not to creep over

the speed limit.

Advanced Driving is not about driving slowly. A

driver who tootles along at 50mph on a busy motor-

way or a clear country road can be just as dangerous

and frustrating as a speed demon. The skilled Ad-

vanced Driver looks to make good progress when-

ever possible by carrying out well-timed overtakes;

with smooth, progressive controlled acceleration.

Remember just how difficult it would be to enjoy

your motoring without a driving licence!

If you are interested in the courses that we offer,

you‘ll be able to find this information on the Institute

of Advanced Motorists website at www.iam.org.uk or
