Attention: Device Template Installation available through the use of standard package installation procedures. Refer to the following for details.

Installation:

Prerequisites

Ensure Termination (if applicable) is configured correctly by using the Manufacturer User’s Guide for reference.

Attach Device to system by using the Manufacturer’s Installation Guide for reference. Power On Unit, if required and allow for the completion of the device’s POST (Power-On Self-

Test). Ensure the IBM TS3200/TS3100 (3573) is set to its default settings. For further details refer to

the Installation and Operation Manual. Configure SCSI IDs via front panel. Configure the robotic arm to be LUN 1 of the FIRST tape

drive in the library. This library is a LUN 1 arm device. LUN 1 of the SCSI ID set for one of the tape drives will show up as the robotic arm for the library and the drive will show up at LUN 0. For further details refer to the Installation and Operation Manual.

Power on Computer System.

Selection of Device within NetVault

Library Robotic Arm Selection

Select the Device Management Facilities. Select to Add a Library. Select Server/Client machine and open it to view attached Robotic Libraries in “Library

Selection” tab. Select Library arm under Library Selection (Refer to Figure 1) and verify the correct device is

displayed in the Selected Library area on the right.

Drive Selection

Select the Drive Selection tab. Select Server/Client machine and open it to view the attached tape drive.

Add the drive by selecting the drive and verify the correct device is displayed in the Selected Drives area on the right. (Refer to Figure 2)

If there are more drives in the library, add the remaining drives, mapping them to each drive bay.

Change the Library Name if desired or leave as default.

Configuration (for Optimum Performance)

Select the Configure tab, right-click the drive and select Configure, to display the Configure Device dialog box. (Refer to Figure 3 on next page.)

Click the Configuration tab in the dialog box and increase the Media block size (Kb) from the default setting of 32 Kb. Ensure your operating system and drive can support the new value entered.

Click the Performance tab in the dialog box and increase the default transfer memory buffer setting from the default setting of 257 Kb. Ensure your operating system can support the new value entered.

If there are more drives repeat the above steps for each drive as required. Save device configuration by selecting the “Save Details” button in the top left corner. Select OK for the “Device added successfully” window. Close the “Add Library” window.

NOTE: The Amount of memory to assign to transfer buffers (Kb) is what is often referred to as the shared memory setting. The shared memory is allocated in 32Kb blocks, with one byte added. The optimum figure is dependent on the drive model, but the minimum value to use is at least 4x the block size setting for the drive. Ensure there is sufficient RAM (Windows) or Kernel Memory (UNIX). Use more if available and as required.

Other information

Known Firmware Issues: None.

Device Notes: The IBM TS3200/TS3100 (3573) Tape Library may take a long period of time to initialize and become ONLINE upon power up and when opening and then closing the magazines. Please be patient. Note when using the Mailslot(Entry/Exit Port): After physically closing the Mailslot on the library, wait for the scanning operation to complete before issuing the Close Entry/Exit Port in the NetVault Device Management GUI. Ensure the library front LCD (or web UI) does NOT say “Scanning…”. If in the NetVault Device Management GUI the Close Entry/Exit Port operation is issued before the library is ready, incorrect status may be displayed. To reflect the correct status, Open and then Close the Entry/Exit port in the NetVault Device Management GUI. Ensure the Mailslot is closed when starting up the NetVault services or when booting up the host operating system. Supported Default Settings/Modes:

Library Mode: Random Autoload Mode: Disabled Loop Mode: Disabled Mailslot(s): Enabled (if Mailslot is desired)

Cleaning Tape Support: Not supported by NetVault at this time. Cleaning operations need to be done manually using the front panel LCD or web UI. To conduct manual cleaning, ensure the NetVault services are stopped or ensure the library is OFFLINE by issuing an “Open Door” in the NetVault Device Management GUI. Once cleaning is complete, ensure to remove all cleaning cartridges from the library before starting the NetVault service or issuing a “Close Door” in the NetVault Device Management GUI.

Emulation Mode: None.
