FunctioningThe applicator is used for continuous surface coating and bead applicationand is suited for light to medium application weight.

The material is pumped through heated hoses to the application head by amelter or a gear pump metering station. With the control module (7 , Fig. 1)open, the material flows through distribution channels to the nozzle(10, Fig. 1). The control module stem stroke adjustment enables the materialquantity to be precisely adjusted.

Heating and Temperature Control

The applicator is heated with electrical heater cartridges. The temperature ismeasured by a sensor and regulated with a temperature controller. Thetemperature controllers are not part of the applicator.

Gear Pump

NOTE: Do not operate Nordson gear pumps without material. Beforeswitching on the motor, ensure that the tank or the drum in the unit feedingthe material is filled.

NOTE: The pump speed should not continuously fall below 5 min‐1.

The output quantity depends on the density, temperature and viscosity of thematerial, the pump type and the motor/pump speed.

Control Module, Solenoid Valve

Nozzle (Option)

The control module opens and closes the material outlet by raising orlowering the nozzle stem. A compression spring ensures that the controlmodule outlet is closed when control air pressure drops, preventing materialfrom being applied.

When the applicator has no nozzle, the material flows out of the controlmodule as beads; applicators with nozzles perform surface application.

The control module opens when the solenoid valve (9 , Fig. 1) is triggered.

Electrical triggering of the solenoid valve is dependent on the entire functionof the application system and, therefore, is not described in detail here.

Pressure Sensors

A pressure sensor measures the material pressure behind the material inlet, while a second pressure sensor measures the material pressure in front ofthe material outlet.

Refer to separate manual for information on operating the pressure sensors.
