It is a great way to promote your busi-ness throughout the High Desert. Advertising in the Source is one fantastic way to promote your business, but you may also consider writing an article for the Source on matters that are unique to your business and expertise. What a great way for you to share your wisdom and success with oth-ers. The Chamber can also get you on the air! Through our partnership with CBS radio station Stardust 910, you can be featured for a 30 minute radio interview with Steve “Stevarino” Elliot. You can use that exposure to share with listeners why they need your services or products. I have talked to sev-eral people who have been interviewed by Steve. All of them had high praise for the way Steve makes the interview a positive, stress-free experience. The next time you see Bill Pettus at a cham-ber, ask him how much 30 minutes of advertising would cost you! I encourage you to take advantage of the web presence that the Chamber can make available to you. There is nothing more exciting for our President, Janice Moore, to do than to share with you all the ways the Chamber can help your business establish a presence on the internet. Come to a monthly luncheon and connect with fel-low business people – come early and stay late to make those important busi-ness connections. "If every city had a Lee Tucker the world would be a lot better place." -- Joseph W. Brady

Tucker moved to the Victor Valley from Folsom about 20 years ago, his son Kevin said. Almost immediately he involved himself in a number of local civic organiza-tions, including Kiwanis and the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce. He later was involved in the Elks and the Victor Valley Museum.

But it was with the High Desert Chapter of the Ameri-can Red Cross that Tucker perhaps made his biggest impact. A district sales manager for General Motors auto parts maker ACDelco in the Los Angeles area for 30 years, Tucker drew upon his professional experi-ence to become a relentless fundraiser and publicist, according to those who knew him. He was affection-ately known in the community as “Mr. Red Cross.”

Gone but never forgotten...Gone but never forgotten...

Penny Heflebower began her business on January 1st of this year, 2010 right here In Apple Valley. She represents a product that may revolutionize the American Kitchens in the years to come. Certainly when people become educated about the benefits of Kangen Healthy Water, most of them will want to be part of this marked transi-tion toward health and away from chronic diseases. Disease thrives in an acid environment and cannot live in an alkaline one! Combine acid-producing food and beverages and a stress-filled lifestyle and it’s obvious why most Americans are acidic. The company motto is “Change Your Water-Change Your Life!”

The 35 year old Japanese company Enagic, an OEM company, has reduced the size of their hospital medical equipment so that everyone can enjoy Kangen Water in their homes. Having just recently brought their amazing machine to the US market in 2007, we are ready to receive the same health benefits the Japanese have had for some time. Kangen Water is made through the electrolysis of regular water into ionized water that is made alkaline for our bodies to absorb. Their flagship machine actually makes seven different pH types of water. However, all water is not equal! When you drink 3-4L per day of 9.5pH Kangen (tiny) water your body is cleansed of the acidic waste build up and given a chance to do what it does best-heal itself! She calls it tiny water because the molecular structure of the water has been altered to a smaller size for better utilization in our bodies. It hydrates the brain within one minute and has already brought moisture to your skin within ten minutes! Actually, it hydrates 85% more efficiently than normal wa-ter which can only claim 15% hydration. Plus it is an awesome anti-oxidant which donates its available electrons to neutralize those dangerous free radicals in the body. These are proven to be one of the con-tributors to cancer growth! When water is ionized, free electrons are the natural result so don’t let those free radicals rob you of your health and beauty. Call Kangen Healthy Water and speak to Penny @ 760-553-6493 for more information or to receive free samples of the Kangen water for up to 21 days so you can feel the effects of the health benefits for your-self!

Victor Valley Appraiser’s Association The Victor Valley Appraiser’s Association is proud to an-nounce its recent acceptance into the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce. The goal of the VVAA is to work together with other community organizations and business leaders to

better serve our local community. The Victor Valley Appraiser’s Association (VVAA) is proud to be associated as a Chap-ter of the California Real Estate Appraiser’s Association (REAA) headquartered in Sacramento. The REAA started out as a group of appraisers coming together to network and share experiences; evolving into a professional trade organization for appraisers that meet continually to discuss rele-vant issues affecting our industry, to present educational offerings, and provide guest speakers cov-ering topics of interest to the group. The success of the REAA has encouraged appraisers throughout the state to form similar groups and become chapters of the California REAA as we gain national recognition. To date there are Chapters in Sacramento, San Francisco’s North Bay, East Bay and Southern Califor-nia’s Victor Valley with other “splinter” groups of appraisers throughout California look-

Do you know what the following companies all have in common? General Electric, Burger King, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, and Trader Joe’s. All of these companies were born during economic recessions. I was speaking with a colleague recently who made reference to a Harvard Business Review author who studied the concept of how leaders are shaped by enduring ex-tremely difficult circumstances. He refers to these challenging times as crucibles – giving reference to an alchemist’s tool. Robert Thomas, in his book Crucibles of Lead-ership, examined how theses challenging experiences make some leaders more capa-ble, while crushing others. Jason Barker I couldn’t help but connect the dots between these two topics. I think that Thomas’ research is particularly relevant given our current challenging economic, political, and regulatory circumstances. The research could be distilled into a few basic points. Ex-perience really is the best teacher, but what we do with the experience matters the most. Do we learn from the experience, or are we ruled by the experience. The ability to find calm in the chaos is required in order to gain wisdom from these experiences.

He refers to that ability as resilience, and asserts that resilience can be a learned trait. It seems that the most powerful common denominator in his research is that successful leaders all had a personal learning strategy that helped them grow as leaders during these times. Now, how is this applicable to our current situation? We are currently in the midst of the most challenging times that we will likely ever experience in our working careers. We also know that, historically, some of the greatest companies were born during recessionary peri-ods. So while it may seem paradoxical, today’s environment may present one of the greatest opportunities for you as a leader, as a business owner, or as a budding entrepreneur. But research indicates that we need to be disciplined and deliberate about how we thrive and emerge more capable from today’s crucible. To that end, a few thoughts for consideration: What is your personal learning strategy? How are you developing your resilience? How are you taking advantage of these challenging times - these crucibles - to grow your busi-ness and to develop as a leader? At the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce, we are always available to partner with you as you grapple with these times and these questions. Please consider us your resource for success. Who knows, maybe your organization will be the next Trader Joes!

Enterprise Funding Corporation was established in 1983 and it’s president, Mr. Jeffery Sceranka, has been with the company since it’s inception. EFC has done over a half a billion dollars in projects in the Inland Empire since it began. EFC is located at 300 E. State St, Ste #230 in Redlands, Ca. Our

specialty is to provide commercial real estate and equipment financing for small business through the SBA 504 loan program. Many may not be aware that we are a non-profit organization. All of our excess revenue goes back into the community in grants and donations. We partner with over 50 banks to provide financing with as little as 10% down. This allows a business to acquire property while preserving working capital. Additionally, our rates are fixed and the loan is fully amortized over either a 10 or 20 year period. We can take the fear out of obtaining an SBA loan by providing a complete financial package to our banking partners without the borrower having to go through the tedious process of taking their informa-tion from bank to bank. Gwen Bedics, Business Development Officer for EFC, has assisted businesses in obtaining SBA loan financing for more than 17 years. She lives locally in the High Desert area, and has since 1979. She may be reached at 760-646-5005 or [email protected].

Handy Equipment Tool & Party Rentals Joe & Delmy Wheeler have relocated their business, HANDY EQUIP-MENT TOOL & PARTY RENTALS to 22051 Outer Hwy 18 (next to the Apple Valley Post Office). They decided to offer large sized colorful themed piñatas, jumpers, popcorn and cotton candy machines, canopies, chocolate & champagne foun-tains, and even dance floors to their already numer-ous tool & equipment rentals. This is the place you want to visit for your next kid birthday, anniversary party or adult birthday party event. You can even rent tables & chairs for your next function from them! Finding lack of space in their prior location, they took over their new building recently but have been in business since December 2006. They believe that their customers can save up to 95% of the cost to buy lawn, garden, or home im-provement equipment and small tools by renting them and thus have more money to spend on quality materials for their home projects. So save your money and call them at 760-240-9719 next time you need that roto-tiller, table saw, scaffold, paint sprayer, carpet cleaner, lawnmower, engine hoist or chain-saw, and they’ll even do repairs on small equipment if yours is broken! Their business is listed in the High Desert Online.com business direc-tory. They’re open 7 days a week! Mon thru Sat 6am -6pm and Sun 6am – 12:00noon. Joe’s e-mail is [email protected].
