Ken-v Ingredients Listowel Bund Testing
1.0 Introduction
Malone O’Regan McGillicuddy were commissioned by Kerry Ingredients to carry out bund testing on the heavy fuel oil tank bund at their facility in Listowel at the location shown on the attached site map. The test consisted of a visual inspection and a “partial” hydrostatic test which was carried out between the 27.09.2004 and the 30.09.2004. The hydrostatic test procedure was similar to the test procedure described in Section 9 of BS8007: 1987.
2.0 Bund Description
The bund is a reinforced concrete structure, sub divided by two crosswalk to form three compartments which accommodate the following storage tanks:
l 2 no. Heavy Fuel Oil Storage Tanks of 340 m3 capacity each
l 1 no. Heavy Fuel Oil Storage Tank of 280 m3 capacity.
The crosswalls of the bund contain openings which allow the three compartments of the bund to act in combination for bunding purposes. It is noted that remedial works have recently been completed on this bund which included the following:
l reconstruction in in-situ reinforced concrete of one compartment of the bund. .
l repair of concrete joints and cracks, mainly in existing concrete floor slabs and plinths.
l lining of concrete surfaces with a proprietary sealant.
Photographs of the bund on Day 1 and Day 3 of the hydrostatic test period are attached to this report.

3.0 Bund Test
A seven day hydrostatic test with water filled to top of bund walls of the heavy fuel oil tank bund was not practicable due to the following:
l the requirement to maintain heavy fuel oil at an ambient temperature of approximately 3OOC.
l the potential risk of damage to pipe insulation and mechanical/electrical installations within the bund.
Our recommendation therefore in relation to testing of the heavy fuel oil tank bund was for the following to be carried out:
l a partial hydrostatic test which would involve filling of the bund with water to a minimum depth of 400 mm over an initial stabilisation period of one day followed by a three day period of monitoring to test the water tightness of floor slabs, floor joints and of wall kicker joints,
0 a visual inspection of the surfaces of bund walls.
4.0 Test Result
The bund area described above, when visually inspected and partially hydrostatically tested in a test similar to that described in Section 9 of BS8007: 1987 during the period 27.09.2004 to the 30.09.2004 was found to be in compliance with the test. ,

Description and results of Hydrostatic Test:
A test to a depth of 400 mm was carried out similar to the procedure recommended in BS8007: 1987 and consisted of the following:
l Bund was filled with clean water for a liquid stabilisation period of I day from the 27.09.2004 to 2809.2004).
l After stabilisation, the level of the liquid surface was recorded at 24 hr intervals for a test period of 3 days, l At the end of the 3 day period, allowing for evaporation and rainfall, the total drop in water level was
calculated to be less than 2 mm.
Based on the foregoing we certtjy that the floor of the bund and the walls of the bund to a height of approximately 400 mm above floor ievel was found to sati@ the testfor liquid tightness similar to that described in Section 9 of BS8007: 1987.
Date of Visual Inspection : 27.09.2004 & 30.09.2004
Description and Results of Visual Inspection : Visual inspection of upper wall surfaces was carried out before and after hydrostatic test - surface continuity of bund walls appeared acceptable throughout.
Recommendations : Rainwater build up in bund to be pumped out.

1.0 Introduction
Malone O’Regan McGillicuddy were commissioned by Kerry Ingredients to carry out a liquid retention test on a newly constructed bund at their facility in Listowel at the location shown on the attached site map. The test was carried out between the 20.07.2004 and the 27.07.2004 in accordance with Section 9 of BS8007: 1987 as described in the attached Record Sheet.
2.0 Bund Description
The bund is a newly constructed reinforced concrete structure, purpose-built to accommodate the following storage tanks:
b 1 no. Aluminium Chloride Storage Tank of 50 m3 capacity.
a 1 no. Aluminium Sulphate Storage Tank of 50 m3 capacity.
b 2 no. Caustic Storage Tanks of 30 m3 capacity per tank.
Photographs of the bund on Day 1 and Day 7 of the test period are attached to this report.
