INTRODUÇÃO
In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.
Bill Cosby
Leiam, agora, alguns avisos e lembretes importantes:
Copiem os horários de aula na tabela da folha anterior e nunca se esqueçam de trazer a apostila nas aulas de inglês;
isso mantenham seus cadernos de inglês entre seus materiais. Eu continuarei entregando exercícios impressos para que vocês façam e colem nos cadernos com os respectivos vistos;
That’s all folks!
With my best wishes,
Teacher Aline Midori Takahara

1.1.1 Reading Strategies
The author affirms / states / says that, It’s clearly expressed / mentioned in the text etc.
Atenção para enunciados do tipo: The author suggests /
implies that / It’s implicit that etc.
expressa no texto. Atenção para os seguintes enunciados e assemelhados: You / We may
infer /conclude that, Although it’s not clearly stated in the text one may conclude / infer
that etc.
essencialmente interpretativos, podendo trazer textos, imagens, charges etc.
conhecimentos mínimos relacionados a língua estrangeira escolhida, o inglês no caso.
Enem 2011, resolvida e comentada.
Questão – Enem 2011
How’s your mood?
For an interesting attempt to measure cause and effect try Mappiness, a project run by the
London School of Economics, which offers a phone app that prompts you to record your mood
and situation.
The Mappiness website says: “We’re particularly interested in how people’s happiness is
affected by their local environment – air pollution, noise, green spaces, and so on – which the
data from Mappiness will be absolutely great for investigating.”
Will it work? With enough people it might. But there are other problems. We’ve been using
happiness and wellbeing interchangeably. Is that ok? The difference comes out in a sentiment
like: “We were happier during the war.”
But was our well-being also greater then?
Tradução livre do texto referente à questão
Atente-se para: “how people’s happiness is affected by their local
língua estrangeira no Enem:
Sempre leia o enunciado e as alternativas antes do texto.
português, já ajuda o candidato a ter uma ideia geral do que se trata o texto;
Conforme
dito na dica anterior, uma boa olhada nas alternativas pode ajudar a traduzir tais palavras;
Charlie Chaplin was one of the famous stars in the history of the cinema. He was certainly the
most famous comic actor of the cinema. His first films were in the age of silent movies. He wrote
and directed nearly all of his films and composed the music of all his sound pictures.
Charles Spencer Chaplin was born in 1889 in London. His family was poor and he had a hard
childhood. In 1890 he left Britain for the USA, in 1914 he made his first film. In his films he
created the character of a little man who always faced life with courage.
Chaplin was married four times, he had four kids. In 1952 he left the USA with his family and
lived in Switzerland until his death.

1.1.2 Personal Pronouns
Os pronomes I, you, he, she, it, we, you e they são chamados de pronomes sujeito
a eu, você, ele, ela, nós, vocês, eles e elas:
em inglês em português
I eu
you você
he ele
she ela
it ele, ela
we nós, a gente
you vocês
they eles, elas
Observações: o pronome I fica sempre em letra maiúscula.
grande!)

2.1 LINGUISTC ASPECTS
2.1.1 Simple Present - affirmative, negative and interrogative forms
I always leave home at 7:00. (Eu sempre saio de casa às 7h).
I never work on Sundays. (Eu nunca trabalho aos domingos).
2- uma verdade universal:
Babies cry. (Bebês choram).
Dogs bark. (Cachorros latem).
tabela abaixo:
Negativas Interrogativas
I do not / I don’t Do I …?
You do not / you don’t Do you …?
He does not / he doesn’t Does he….?
She does not / she doesn’t Does she…?
It does not / it doesn’t Does it…?
We do not / we don’t Do we…?
You do not/ you don’t Do you …?
They do not / they don’t Do they...?
Ex.:
I don’t have to work today. (Eu não tenho que trabalhar hoje).
She doesn’t have to wash the dishes. (Ela não tem que lavar a louça).
They don’t go to school on the weekends.
Do you generally wake up at seven? (Você geralmente acorda às 7h?).
Does the dog bark a lot during the night? (O cão late muito durante a noite?).
Does he work as a waiter at that new restaurant? (Ele trabalha como garçom naquele novo
restaurante?).
verbos sofrem algumas alterações nas terceiras pessoas do singular (he, she, it).
Ex.:
Mary lives downtown. (A Mary mora no centro da cidade).
Bob loves chocolate. (Bob ama chocolate).
Susan’s dog sleeps a lot during the day.
singular (he, she, it). São elas:
1- Quando o verbo terminar em “y” precedido de consoante, tira-se o “y” e acrescenta-se
“ies”.
Carol studies at a good college. (A Carol estuda numa boa universidade).
Mom fries eggs in a pan. (Mamãe frita ovos numa panela).
2- Quando os verbos terminarem em “ss”, “sh”, “ch”, “x” e “o”, acrescenta-se “es”.
Bob fixes everything at his house. (Bob conserta tudo na casa dele).
Daniel watches cartoon every morning. (Daniel assiste desenho todas as manhãs).
Every day after the meals, my mom washes the dishes. (Todo dia, após as refeições, minha
mãe lava a louça).
Jack does his homework at night.
Cindy kisses her parents every day. (Cindy beija seus pais todos os dias).

10. ________________________________a cup of tea in the afternoon? (Gary and Ken/to have)
2.1.2 Object Pronouns
desses pronomes:
“I bought shoes and gave the shoes to my girlfriend” (Eu comprei sapatos e dei
os sapatos para minha namorada). Não está estranho?
O ideal seria: “I bought shoes and gave them to my girlfriend.” (Eu comprei
sapatos e os dei para minha namorada). Percebeu a diferença?
Outros exemplos:
- Joel is very proud of Michelle. He loves her very much. (Joel está muito orgulhoso de
Michelle. Ele a ama muito).
- Give me the book. (Me dê o livro).

2.1.3 The Imperative Form
Shut the door. (Feche a porta).
Open your book on page 123. (Abra seu livro na página 123).
Speak only English during our class. (Fale somente inglês durante nossa aula).
Don’t talk during the class. (Não converse durante a aula).
Tidy up your bedroom. (Organize seu quarto).
Come to my house tomorrow at 8:00. (Venha à minha casa, amanhã às 8h).
2- Convite:
Let’s go watch the game at Susan’s house?
Let’s make a surprise party to Bob?
Let’s swim at my new swimming pool? (Vamos nadar na minha piscina nova?).
Come see my new video game. (Venha ver meu novo videogame).
basta utilizar o verbo no infinitivo sem o “to”.
antes do verbo.
colocar o “don’t” nas frases negativas, basta apenas acrescentar o “not”. Exemplo da forma
correta:
Let’s not drink anymore. (Não vamos beber mais).
Let’s not wait for our friends anymore.
antes do verbo principal.
Always bring your book, notebook and pencil case to the class. (Sempre traga seu livro,
caderno e estojo para a aula).
Never sleep so late. (Nunca durma tão tarde).

2.1.4 Quantifiers - much, too much, many, too many, very, very much, so, so much,
etc.
Veja exemplos de substantivos contáveis: book, student, desk, apple, dog, man, woman,
house, computer, notebook, lesson etc.
Exemplos: wine, milk, sugar, honey, vinegar, salt, juice, water etc.
seguintes:
both (of) enough some (of)
every a lot (of) any (of)
a, an quite a lot (of) the
many too many several
a few very few too few
each none (of) no
all (of)
Para os substantivos incontáveis usamos:
enough none (of) no
some (of) all (of) very much
any (of) the much
a little too little a lot (of)
quite a lot (of)
“Much”, “Many” e “A Lot of”
Ex: How much sugar do you need?
Ex: How many students are there? Quantos estudantes estão lá?
- “A lot of” é usado em ambos os casos.
Ex: I have a lot of thing to do.
Variações no uso de MUCH e MANY:
HOW MUCH = quanto(a)
HOW MUCH money did she spend on clothes? (Quanto dinheiro ela gastou em roupas?)
HOW MANY = quantos(as)
HOW MANY times have you been to Italy? (Quantas vezes você esteve na Itália?)
SO MUCH = tanto(a)
There was SO MUCH smoke that one could hardly breathe. (Havia tanta fumaça que mal se
podia respirar.)
SO MANY = tantos(as)
There were SO MANY questions to answer that it was impossible for us to finish the test
on time.(Havia tantas perguntas a responder, que nos foi impossível terminar o teste na
hora.)
TOO MUCH = demais
Mother has prepared TOO MUCH food for us. (Mamãe preparou comida demais para nós.)
TOO MANY = demais
They have brought TOO MANY boxes for the men to carry. (Eles trouxeram caixas demais
para os homens carregarem.)
VERY MUCH = muito (advérbio de intensidade)
She loves him VERY MUCH. (Ela o ama muito.)
“Too” e “So”
São usados para intensificar algo. A diferença é que “too” dá a impressão negativa
de exagero, enquanto “so” indica uma grande quantidade, porém positiva.
Ex: There is too much traffic in New York. Há tráfico demais em Nova York.
I love you so much. Eu te amo muito.
“Little”, “Few” e “Enough”
Ex: There are a few people in theater. Há poucas pessoas no teatro.
Add a little sugar, please.
Ex: There isn’t enough food. Essa comida não é suficiente.

2.1.5 Present Continuous Tense - affirmative, negative and interrogative forms
A construção do
presente contínuo deve ser dada segundo a forma:
Sujeito + verbo to be + verbo com “ing” + complement
She is studying English now. (Ela está estudando inglês agora).
Para a forma negativa, basta acrescentar o “not” após o verbo “to be” (am, is are).
Ex:
He is not playing the electric guitar at this moment. (Ele não está tocando guitarra neste
exato momento).
She is not listening to music. (Ela não está ouvindo música).
They are not helping their mother. (Eles não estão ajudando a mãe deles).
Para elaborar uma frase interrogativa é necessário colocar o verbo “to be” no início
da frase:
Is Mariane talking to Bob? (A Mariane está conversando com o Bob?)
Is Susan watching the soap opera? (A Susan está assistindo a novela?)
Are the kids playing on the backyard? (As crianças estão brincando no quintal?)
Obs:
“ing”.
Ex: to ride (andar)
to dance (dançar)
She is riding a bike now. (Ela está andando de bicicleta agora).
She is dancing ballet.
Ex: to swim (nadar)
to put (colocar)
He is swimming on the lake. (Ele está nadando no lago).
She is putting the folders in the drawer.

A ação teve início e
fim no passado.
Observe a tabela abaixo:

3.1.4 Possessive Adjectives and Pronouns
gramaticais adjective (adjetivo), pronoun (pronome) e possessive:
PessoasPossessiveAdjectives
PossessivePronouns Tradução
I My Mine Meu(s), minha(s)
You Your YoursTeu(s), tua(s), seu(s), sua(s), de você
He His His Dele(s), seu(s), sua(s)
She Her Hers Dela(s), seu(s), sua(s)
It Its Its Dele(s), dela(s), seu(s), sua(s)
We Our Ours Nosso(s), nossa(s)
You Your YoursVosso(s), vossa(s), seu(s), sua(s), de vocês
They Their Theirs Dele(s), dela(s), seu(s), sua(s)
adjective + substantivo):
My car, my cars
Your car, your cars
His car, his cars
Their car, their cars
My car is blue, yours is red. (Em vez de “My car is blue, your car is red”.)
Your car is red, mine is blue. (em vez de “Your car is red, my car is blue.”)
His car is green, hers is pink (em vez de “His car is green, her car is pink.”)
Empregue os “possessive pronouns” após a preposição of numa construção especial:
He is a friend of mine. (Ele é um dos meus amigos.)
She is wearing a dress of hers.
1. This book is ours.
2. These copybooks are theirs.
3. Its house is clean.
4. These cars are hers.

6. This is its bone.
7. He was an enemy of his.
8. These are our books.

3.1.5 Past Continuous Tense
estavam acontecendo simultaneamente.Ex.:
They were cpying when the teacher appeared.(Eles estavam copiando quando a
ocorreu.
While I was learning, He was asking about it.(Enquanto eu estava aprendendo, ele estava
me perguntando) – aqui duas acções passadas ocorreram no mesmo instante.
Ex.:
I was looking through the window when he come back.(Eu estava olhando pela janela
quando ele voltou). – repare que o verbo to be está no passado (was) e o verbo princiapl
com –ing (looking).
*Para negar a frase com o past continuous tense, basta colocar NOT após o verbo to be.
como: When, while, as,by the time etc.

(Não tenho dinheiro nenhum comigo hoje.)

4.1.3 Using “would” to make requests, invitations and offerings
Para fazer ofertas:We use would + like a lot for offers. It’s very useful for different situations.Would you like to come to our house for dinner?Would you like some cake?Would you like to celebrate Chinese New Year with us?
For more informal invitations you can use can + get. Get means buy in this context. Can I get you a drink? We also use would and can for offering to help someone.Would you like some help? Can I help you?Can I give you a hand with that?We also use modals for asking for something (making a request or asking permission). Can you do me a favour? - (more informal)Would you do me a favour? - (more polite)
Can you help me? - (more informal)Would you help me? - (more polite)
[Sim] Sure. [Claro] OK. I’d love to. [Eu adoraria] No, I’m sorry. [Não. Sinto Muito] I don’t think so. [Acho que não] No, I’m afraid I can’t.
