TYPE TO ENTER A CAPTION. “LA PAMPA” BOSQUE DEVASTADO POR LA MINERÍA AURIFERA INFORMAL (RESTAURACIÓN), MADRE DE DIOS, PERÚ PARQUE NACIONAL DEL MANÚ, MADRE DE DIOS, PERÚ In the Amazonian rainforest of Peru, CEDE, with Consorcio Madre de Dios and Centro Genetico de Investigacion Apicola, develop a proposal for a beekeeping program “Woman and family, beekeeping for forest management”, to support the Restoration of degraded areas, Conservation of Biodiversity, and Sustainable Development, through the management of Apis mellifera and native stingless bees. The program promotes the installation of hives and capacity development, for the production of honey and pollen as a food supplement, to produce surpluses for the market, and to contribute to the pollination and conservation of Amazonian biodiversity. With genus Melipona and Trigona of stingless bees, these apiaries are an example for schools and families to replicate the experience and install similar hives in their yards or farms, to improve the family economy since the family productive unit. As an alternative family enterprise with social inclusion, this program contributes to the sustainable rural development, improving the living conditions and food security of rural and marginal population, and indigenous peoples. This venture constitutes a source of ancestral knowledge, at the same time as scientific knowledge, to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2030.
