Phase 2 Progress Report

Phase 1 Accomplishment
Completed two Earthquake Steering Committee Meeting and four Domestic Expert Consultation Group Meeting.Compiled information on earthquake response systems for energy supplies from member economies and plan an earthquake response mechanism for energy supplies in the Asia-Pacific region.Established framework for an information web site on earthquake response for energy systems in the Asia-Pacific region.Held APEC Seminar on Earthquake Disaster Management of Energy Supply Systems.Deliverable: A report of Earthquake Disaster Management of Energy Supply System of APEC Member Economies.
Initial Progress of Phase 2
At EWG 21, Phase 2 of this project was endorsed.
Contract was awarded in March 2002.
Confirmation letter was sent out on April 1, 2002, to invite other interested economies to participate.
So far,(in addition to Australia, China, New Zealand) Canada, Japan, and United States have expressed interest in active participation.
Steering Committee
Australia, China, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei have appointed members.Canada, Japan, and United States are still searching.The meeting is scheduled in end of May, possibly through an Internet Conference.Discussion topics: --Proposed agenda and topics for the seminar. --Draft outline of Project Report. --APEC member economies’ emergency response plan. --Phase 3 project.

Discussion topics:
--APEC member economies’ emergency response plan. --Guide to improve earthquake performance of electric/ oil/natural gas systems. --How to set up the standard emergency operation procedure. --Experience and information sharing..

A questionnaire was designed and will disseminated in the end of May to better understand APEC economies’ situation and concern regarding above topics.
Web Site Maintain
Maintain web page’s data base, include guidelines and regulations of energy infrastructure construction of APEC economies, emergency response plan of different economies, project report, meeting/workshop’s record, etc.Provide information of earthquake consultation services company for APEC economies’ reference.Increase discussion site and category by topics.Update latest severe earthquake information.Promote visibility of the Web Site.

Mission of the domestic expert consultation group:
Provide expert consultation regarding earthquake technology.
Advise scope and outline of the handbook and support related information.
Provide information to the Internet database.
Review related information and project report.
