Our first destination,Montserrat, is a unique natural park and massive rock(1235m) visible from milesaround, with strange shapesand rounded peaks that jut into the sky; there are paths, stairs, caves, chapelsand hermitages scattered over the mountain, extraordinary landscapes andwonderful views.
The next place we visit is Sitges where we will have lunch, a town located on theCatalan coast 40km from Barcelona. It has always been a place that captivatesmany artists, tourists and, in general, visitors from everywhere. Here, we can stillfind modernist buildings and streets that preserve the charm of the white coastaltown. The visit will start in the Old Quarter where the Town Hall and the Bacardi’sHouse are located, and afterwards we will see the Quiet Corner and the CauFerrat Museum.
Finally we will go to San Sebastià beach where we will have some free time untilthe return to Barcelona.

The tour starts in Passeig de Gràcia, one of the mainboulevards of the city and thestreet for luxury and design shops where we will see different modernistbuildings. First, we will be able to appreciate the Casa Batlló’s façade. Thiscolourful jewel by Antoni Gaudí is not only original; it’s beauty and the orig -inality and creativity of its forms has earned it the nicknames ‘house of bones’ or‘dragon house’. Then, in the same street, we will see the façade of La Pedrera. This residential building was built by Gaudí for the Milà family and finished in 1911and its sculptured form has made it a reference piece and it has been declaredWorld Heritage by UNESCO.
The second part of the tour will consist of two different guided visits. The firstwill start in the Park Güell, the unfinished project of a garden suburb by AntoniGaudí. The park brings together all the characteristic features of modernism andthe architect’s own particular vision (sinuous and organic shapes, integrationwith nature, broken tile mosaics). This site, too, has been declared WorldHeritage by UNESCO.
The other visit will be to La Sagrada Familia, the unfinished temple by AntoniGaudí who dedicated the latter part of his life to this work, the synthesis of hisoverall concept of architecture. The richness of detail and its significance needexplaining in order to fully appreciate this fascinating and extraordinary building.

This excursion will give you ageneral impression of the city in which you are staying duringthe Congress and will beinteresting even for those whohave visited Barcelona before.
The Ramblas is a boulevard known around the world. Pure Mediterranean innature, it leads the visitor down to the sea through a variety of contrasts: old-style shops, ultramodern cafés, landmark buildings like the Liceu Opera House, and, in the centre of the boul evard there are street artists, newspaper, flower, andother varied stalls.
There will be several stops. We’ll see the Plaça Reial’s lampposts designed byGaudí, the Plaça del Pi with its beautiful gothic church Sta Maria del Pi, PlaçaSant Jaume which is the centre of the city’s political activity with the City Hallfacing the Palau de la Generalitat. The Plaça Reial right in the centre of Barcelona, used to receive ambassadors and hold banquets. Plaça Sant FelipNeri, one of the most beautiful squares away from the tourist circuit and theGothic Catherdral with 3 naves, built on top of an early Christian basilica.
Our walking tour culminates at the Palau de la Música, a jewel of Catalan ArtNouveau, and the only concert venue in this style to be listed as a World HeritageSite by UNESCO (4 December 1997). This modernist building is designed arounda central metal structure covered in glass, which exploits natural light to makeDomènech i Montaner's masterpiece into a magical music box that bringstogether all the decorative arts: sculpture, mosaic, stained glass and ironwork.
