“worthy”

1. having worth or value :  estimable (capable of being estimated)

2. having sufficient worth or importance

But how is value or worth determined?

• Value: the importance, worth, or usefulness of something

• Worth: the level at which someone or something deserves to be valued or rated

• Think of value as being set by the owner

• Think of worth as being set by a transaction

Page 2: “worthy” 1.having worth or value : estimable (capable of ...1ed9d41d193d9ad7dda3-73d8cd3958c525cff9af5f212db039d3.r83.c… · our value and worth as well But be doers of the word,

What is the value of your soul?

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Matthew 16:26

“Gains the whole world”

• World’s gold reserves • Precious medals / gems • Jewelry • Currency • Real Estate • Cars / boats • EVERYTHING

We sometimes struggle to understand our value and worth as well

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

James 1:22-24

• Value: the importance, worth, or usefulness of something

Constant self-criticism and rejection of self

Always giving negative reaction to compliments

Materialism to prove one’s worth

Trying to impress everyone (elevate yourself above others artificially)

Underestimating Your ValueLack of inner peace and comfort

Placing impossible demands upon one’s self

A feeling of helplessness or inability to overcome faults

Destructive behaviors (substance abuse, sexual immorality, self-indulgence)

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

W Washed “Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord, “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool”. (Isaiah 1:18)

Washed:

“that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word” (Ephesians 5:26)Sanctified (to set apart):

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,  being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:23-24)

Justified (to declare righteous):

O One Body

For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.  For in fact the body is not one member but many.  If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body?  And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body?

1 Corinthians 12:12-21

O One Body

If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

1 Corinthians 12:12-21

O One Body

  For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;  that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;  strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;

Colossians 1:9-11

O One Body

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

The “they” is YOU!

Isaiah 40:29-31

O One Body

Because YOU are a member of the Body of Christ, God will renew YOUR strength, so go out and do that …

Pray that you will be filled with the knowledge of His will

Be fruitful in every good work

Increase in the knowledge of God

Walk worthy of the Lord who strengthens you

R Redeemed

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The word redeem means “to buy out.” The term was used specifically in reference to the purchase of a slave’s freedom. We were once a slave to sin, but know we have freedom in Christ.

Galatians 3:13-14

R Redeemed

knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

“aimless conduct” can also be translated from the original Greek word to “unworthy life”

Remember, in a transaction, the BUYER sets the value, not the seller. Worth is what someone is willing to pay.

1 Peter 1:18-19

R Redeemed   He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Romans 8:32

T Through God’s Eyes, You’re Complete

But wait, I’m not complete yet …

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:6

T Through God’s Eyes, You’re Complete

For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

Colossians 2:9-10

John 17:22-23   And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:  I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

H Heir

to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.  And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”  Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Galatians 4:5-7

1 John 3:1   Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2 peter 1:2-4

John 1:12  But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name

Y You Are Loved!

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

John 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9

John 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

1 John 3:24 Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
