“THE  BEST  THING”       BY  KENDALL  AND  DAVIS  LAVENDER    Blonde  hair,  blue  eyes,  and  really  pretty,  yes  She  wears  yoga  pants  and  tank  tops  and  sometimes  a  dress  She  is  5  feet  something;  she  is  taller  than  us  We  look  like  her,  and  she  looks  like  us    We  call  her  Momma,  but  that’s  not  her  name  We  call  her  Momma,  just  the  same  If  there’s  one  thing  we  know,  we  know  it  for  sure  The  best  thing  about  Momma  …  is  that  we  love  her      My  sister  is  Kendall,  and  I’m  known  as  “D”  My  Momma  is  great;  she  lets  me  have  candy  She  likes  to  cuddle;  she’ll  say  “Oh  honey”  She  puts  me  in  her  room  –  cuddly  cuddly,  cuddly  I  hear  her  when  she  leaves,  but  I  sleep  in  a  little  bit  My  favorite  meal  is  pasta  –  that’s  what  I  like  to  get  She’ll  ask,  “Are  you  OK?”  –  she  is  just  so  nice  She  makes  funny  sounds  and  noises  when  we  play  the  game  of  “Life”      My  brother  is  Davis,  and  I’m  Kendall  now  I  love  my  Momma  so  much,  and  this  is  how  She  takes  me  to  Nail-­‐toepia  to  get  my  nails  done  She  gets  me  haircuts  and  shoes  and  toys  just  for  fun  She  takes  me  to  model  homes;  I  want  one  so  bad      She’ll  hold  me  and  lay  with  me  and  tickle  my  back    She’ll  bring  me  to  the  couch  if  I’m  hurt  or  I  feel  ill  She  takes  care  of  me,  and  I  know  she  always  will  Even  when  my  brother  fights  and  makes  a  big  noise  When  Davis  hits  me,  she  says,  “Stop  that”  in  that  big  voice    Salad,  hot  dogs,  chicken  nuggets  and  mac  &  cheese    The  best  thing  about  Momma  is  that  she  loves  me    How  do  I  know?  Because  she  tells  me  every  day  How  do  we  know?  Because  we  feel  the  same  way    We  call  her  Momma,  but  that’s  not  her  name  We  call  her  Momma,  just  the  same  We  look  like  her,  and  she  looks  like  us    The  best  thing  about  Momma  …  is  that  she  loves  us
