“Omar Diop is a full-blooded musician…developing a style entirely his own” – LoNam Magazin

‘Tiliboo’ means sunrise in Mandinka, the ancient language of West-Africa. It is one of several languages from this region used by Omar Diop in his songs; his conga playing is also developed from the folkloric music he grew up with in Casamance, Sénégal. Since 2011 the band Tiliboo, an international crew gradually assembled from Berlin’s jazz, afro and electro scenes, has developed Omar’s songs into an original style of afrobeat music: urban, contemporary, afrodelic! The band has become one of the city’s most beloved live acts, regularly knocking out audiences at local festivals and clubs, opening for Ebo Taylor at YAAM, and closing out Saturday night at the Karneval der Kulturen two years in a row.
