Department of Law, Bangalore University, Bangalore and British Council Bangalore University University Law College Bangalore University was established in the year 1964 in the Garden City of Bangalore aptly hailed as the “I.T. Capital of India.” It was first accredited in 2002 by NAAC with Five Star Status and was re-accredited in the year 2008 with 'A' Grade. According to India Today - Nielsen survey of May 31st 2010, Bangalore University ranks 13th in the list of 50 top Universities in the Country. Academically, the University is structured into six faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce & Management, Education, Law and Engineering. It has 43 Post Graduate Departments; one post graduate Centre at Kolar three constituent colleges, 665 affiliated colleges and several other Centres and Directorates of higher learning and research under its purview catering to a student population of over three lakhs. At present, University is headed by Prof. Dr. B. Thimme Gowda, a renowned researcher and Scholar as Vice Chancellor and Prof. Dr. Smt. K. K. Seethamma as its Registrar. University Law College - a Centre of excellence for legal learning in India was first started by the then Government of Mysore in the year 1948. Initially affiliated to the University of Mysore, University Law College was known as Government Law College. It has produced many legal luminaries like Justice M.N. Venkatachalaiah, Former Chief Justice, Supreme Court of India; Justice N. Santosh Hegde, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Lokayukta, Karnataka State; Justice R. Raveendran, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India and a host of other Judges of High Courts and eminent Advocates and outstanding politicians like Shri. S.M. Krishna, Shri. S. Bangarappa, Shri. M. Veerappa Moily, the former Union Law Minister, all former Chief Ministers of Karnataka as well as others in administration. After the establishment of Bangalore University, it became part of Bangalore University and was named as University Law College. University Law College is the pioneer in introducing the Five year LL.B integrated program in the year 1986 – 87. It has a Post Graduate Department of Studies in Law and has been offering One Year LL.M programme in Corporate and Commercial Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Environmental Law and Human Rights and Labour and Employment Law from the academic year 2014-15. It is headed by Prof. Dr. Suresh. V. Nadagoudar and has seven permanent faculties apart from few full time & Part Time guest faculty members. The British Council creates international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries and builds trust between them worldwide. We are a Royal Charter charity, established as the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. Our 7,000 staff in over 100 countries work with thousands of professionals and policy makers and millions of young people every year through English, arts, education and society programmes. The British Council is recognised across India for its network of 9 libraries and cultural centres. We offer a range of specialised projects in arts, education, exams, English language and society to audiences across India and more than 100,000 members. We also provide access to English language training and learning for both students and teachers, offer UK qualifications in India and enable opportunities to study in the UK. We also manage prestigious scholarships and training awards, including the Jubilee scholarships, the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan and the Charles Wallace India Trust awards. Public law governs British Council About the International Seminar relationships between individuals and the government through mandatory rules and comprises constitutional law, administrative law, tax law, criminal law and procedural law and encompasses legal principles governing the exercise of power by public bodies like government ministers and departments, local authorities etc. Decisions of public bodies significantly impact the lives of the ones facing poverty, discrimination or disadvantage and determine issues like provision of health care or social security benefits etc. In juxtaposition to public law, transactional laws deals with corporate law, securities regulation, mergers and acquisitions, taxation, negotiations, bankruptcy, real estate or regulatory law etc. The present seminar emphasizes the need and relevance of public and transactional laws and focuses upon the interface between human rights, property rights and other relevant right centered regimes and international laws. It seeks to highlight the developments in the public and transactional laws with reference to UK and India. It is an opportunity to explore the changes that have taken place so that the law teachers and law students can contribute towards enhancement of the ambit of this multi- dimensional approach to the new avenues that are fast becoming relevant in international transactions and human rights.
