He joined the credit union on March 16th, 1959 and quickly became a well-respected director who was dedicated and hard working. He was involved in many areas of the credit union, and has helped advance the credit union movement in many ways. Bill will surely be missed, but we wish him all the best. A MESSAGE FROM BILL A lot has changed since I joined the Board of Directors of the Erie County School Employees Federal Credit Union in 1964. Our first big change came by moving first from Francis’ basement to 4108 Main Street (our first real office), and then on to our new office at 4101 Main Street. When we merged DIVIDENDS ON SHARE ACCOUNTS ARE BASED ON AVAILABLE EARNINGS AND CANNOT BE GUARANTEED. with American Sterilizer in 2003 we acquired the office at 2545 West 23rd Street and became Americo Federal Credit Union. Our first million took us a very long time to earn, and we now have about 80 million dollars. That astounding growth was the result of the diligence of the first treasurer Francis Catherine. The continued growth came from the industrious efforts of Gail Warren, who successfully brought us through the absolute toil of merging. Gail worked long and hard to standardize two distinctly different offices into one cooperative organization. Our future seems quite rosy under the competent and thoughtful leadership of Christine Bennett who served her exemplary apprenticeship under Gail’s watchful eyes. All this has not been without a lot of fun. We have had Christmas parties and summer picnics at various venues, such as Behrend Campus, Lawrence Park Golf Course, Sterilizer Park and the Erie Yacht Club. A few years back, after one of our annual picnics, at the Erie Yacht Club, we were treated to an exceptional narrated excursion by skipper Eric Marshall aboard his sailing vessel. Our credit union will continue to thrive and grow as long as we have such excellent staff and volunteers as we have now. CARDVALET - AVAILABLE NOW! Americo Federal Credit Union is pleased to introduce CardValet®, a mobile card management application that helps reduce account fraud by allowing cardholders to monitor accounts with their smartphone and control how, when, and where their debit card is used. CardValet was developed in partnership with Fiserv and is available in the Apple® App Store or Google® Play. Once CardValet is set up, cardholders have the ability to “turn off” their card when not in use, establish transaction spending limits, and decline a transaction when the amount exceeds a predefined threshold. Real-time smartphone alerts can be customized based on the types of information each cardholder would like to receive. For example, a cardholder can set up an alert to be notified when a card is used, when a card transaction is approved, and exceeds any of the permitted use policies, or when a card transaction has been attempted but has been declined based on the parameters established. “CardValet is ideal for users who want to actively manage their cards. CardValet’s inventive and thoughtful approach to cards management makes the user experience as easy as possible,” said Danielle Abramczyk. “We are excited to offer this tool to our cardholders! Not only is CardValet user-friendly and convenient, but it will aide in our continued efforts to prevent fraud and identity theft for our cardholders.”

HIGHMARK WALK FOR A HEALTHY COMMUNITY

Amer ico Federa l Cred i t Un ion recent ly participated in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. The walk is an annual fundraising walk that benefits local health and human service agencies. Highmark Inc. coordinates and underwrites the cost of the walk so that 100 percent of the money raised by the walkers goes to participating nonprofits. The primary goal of the walk is to help participating organizations raise money for their individual goals. The secondary goal of the walk is to energize the community members to have a greater hand in their health by becoming or staying physically active.

Americo Federal Credit Union walked to support the EUMA (Erie United Methodist Alliance). Credit union employees got creative and raised money in several different ways. The member service representatives worked the front lines and sold shoes to members who wished to support the staff whom were walking on the 2nd of June. The credit unions East side office held a Chinese Auction that both staff and members participated in and the West side office held a bake sale. This year, the team raised over $1,500. The credit union is very happy with the success that the staff had this year and the imaginative ways they found to raise money. Americo FCU believes in the community and hopes to participate in this annual event again next year. Thank you to all the members that helped make this possible and supported not only the credit union, but the community!
