through sharing the teachings of the great 13th century poet and mystic Jelaluddin Rumi.
The MOA offers cultural programs, open workshops,
and public presentations in the spirit of
inclusion, equality and love, under the inspiration of Suleyman Hayati Dede,
and the guidance of his son and successor
Jelaleddin Loras."
Mevlevi Order of America is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 educational organization established in 1981.

Postneshin Jelaleddin Loras is the son and spiritual successor of Suleyman Hayati Dede, beloved Mevelvi Shaykh of Konya. Jelaleddin Efendi was sent to North America on December 17th 1978 by his father to share the Mevlevi Way and Teachings of Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi.
Jelaleddin Efendi established the MOA in 1981 and today guides Teaching Circles in California, Hawaii, New York, Oregon, Washington, USA; Frankfurt, Germany; and Konya, Turkey.
The spiritual values of the MOA include Courtesy, Forgiveness, Hospitality, Inclusion, Love, Modesty, Politeness, Prayer, Respect, Remembrance of God, Self-Discipline and Unity.
Jelaleddin Efendi reminds us that “Our purpose is; individual clarity, balance, unity and love.” The spiritual discernment he has chosen for us to focus upon in this workshop is; “Doing Right.”
“We do not turn for ourselves. We turn around in the way we do
so that the light of God may descend upon the earth.
As you act as a conduit in the Turn, the light comes through
the right hand, and the left hand brings it
into this world."

“Little is known by anyone but a spiritual person Who has in her heart a touchstone of vital truth.
The others, hovering between two opinions, Fly towards their nest on a single wing.
Knowledge has two wings, opinion only one wing; Opinion is weak and lopsided in its flight.
The bird having only one wing quickly drops down, And again flies on two steps or more.
This bird of opinion goes on rising and falling On one wing, in hope to reach her nest.
When she escapes from opinion and knowledge is seen,
This bird gains two wings and spreads both of them. Afterwards she ‘goes upright on a straight path,
Not groveling on her face or creeping.’ She flies up on two wings even as the angel Gabriel,

Once when Hz. Pir Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi
was asked what was the zikr (Remembrance practice) in his tekke (sacred space) he replied,
"Our zikr is Allah, Allah, Allah, because we are Allah’s.
We have come from Allah, we go to Allah. My father always heard of Allah, spoke of Allah,
and always recited the name of Allah. God Almighty has manifested Himself to
all prophets and saints with a different name. The manifestation to Muslims is the name of Allah
which contains all the names and attributes."
