January 2019 Issue ANZCCJ NEWSLETTER ANZCCJ Shinnenkai 2019 Outgoing ANZCCJ Chair Andrew Gauci welcomes ANZCCJ Chair Sally Townsend into the new role Message from the Chair A Happy New Year to all ANZCCJ Members and friends. I hope you, your families and your businesses have all had a good start to the year. January is always a blur of events celebrating the New Year but I’m sure you found, as did I, there is a real buzz about the coming year ahead; we may have a rise in consumption tax approaching and a sense of the unknown with Brexit looming, however, the Rugby World Cup is coming, and the excitement is palatable all over the country. I believe now is the time for Australia and New Zealand to engage with Japanese stakeholders on a deeper level about topics that really matter to our business communities and how we can use these great sporting events to do just that, especially with respect to gender diversity, free trade, improved market access conditions, and so on. This is our opportunity to fully leverage the RWC19 and other major international sporting events in 2020 and beyond to raise the profile of what Australia and New Zealand are doing, and can do more of, with Japan – both in current and emerging industry areas. Thank you to those of you who joined the ANZCCJ Shinnenkai earlier this month. It was wonderful to see such a big turnout and we were very fortunate to have a number of senior business leaders in attendance including a number of former Chamber chairs, senior leaders from the Australian and New Zealand Embassies and Australian and Japanese business cooperation
