ANZAC Day is done and dusted and a huge thank you to Keith Roach and his team from TADPAI for running this years very moving ceremony. A huge thank you to the army of helpers at the Gunfire Breakfast who cooked, served and cleaned up 160 plates of food – a huge effort from everyone. The collection box yielded $671 which I am sure TADPAI will donate to a worthy cause. A big thank you to the Tarago Show Society who donated all the sausages and some bacon, and the Tarago CWA Day Branch who donated the tea and coffee for the breakfast.

TSAI was particularly proud to be part of this years ANZAC Day ceremony with the unveiling of the plaque acknowledging the gift of the Lone Pine Tree by the Tarago Public School in 2006. With the demise of 2 former trees this third one is thriving in the car park and TSAI lifemember Anne Sturgiss (who was the recipient of the original lone pine tree in 2006) unveiled the commemorative plaque with the help of Tarago Public School students Holly McQuillan and Ashlee Chinnery.

Memorial Park Opening Saturday 25th May 2019. The ceremony for the opening of the Cricketers Corner memorial park will start with the official opening ribbon cutting at 11.00am and followed by a social cricket match and bbq lunch. All current and former members of the

TSAI and residents of Tarago are invited to the opening. Byo alcohol if so desired and cheer for your preferred cricket team. We are extremely grateful to the Veolia Mulwaree Trust for granting us the majority of the funds for this project which is a fitting memorial for the TSAI and community members who have passed on.

The Annual General Meeting of the TSAI was held in April and the committee positions remain the same as below:President: Gill ShepherdVice President: Robert HowarthSecretary: Neil ShepherdTreasurer: Wayne BaynhamPublic Officer: Kevin GardnerFriday Night raffles co-ordinator: Gill ShepherdTarago Times Team: Sue Maas, Linda Hallam, Maggie Corby and Gill Shepherd

Now that the Memorial Park Project is complete and the Outdoor Gym Equipment is about to start it is onto the next stage for the Rec Area which is the duplication of the TSAI Shed (formerly known as the Pony Club Shed) and the extension of the walking track. Planning is underway with with funding to be sought from the My Community Project grant initiative. Another project that needs our members and the wider community input is the sand dressage arena as the fence around the area and the surface have both deteriorated. We will soon be running a poll on what is to be done with this area and appreciate your thoughts. So please contact me on 4849 4221 home or 0419 639 254 or email to [email protected]

SHAVE FOR A CUREIt was wonderful to have the opportunity to support Ashleigh Chinnery’s special day as she cut her hair to raise funds for blood cancer research. Ashlee raised $2,132 as part of the Leukaemia F o u n d a t i o n World’s Greatest Shave Event and donated her lovely long hair for wigs. Ashlee has never had a haircut, only trims. She had her hair cut because her Nan had cancer and needed to wear a wig.

Tarago and District Progress AssociationTADPAI held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday 8th April 2019, and before anything else I would like to welcome, on behalf of all TADPAI members, our new members Richard and Irene Kirkwood and Jo Cormie.

A new Constitution for TADPAI was moved and agreed on before the then current Committee stepped down and a new Executive elected to office. During the past year, TADPAI acknowledged that it operates differently to the processes described in a NSW ‘Model Rules’ Constitution for Incorporated Associations. Under the Model Rules Constitution, a Committee makes the day-to-day decisions on behalf of all members of the Incorporated Association; however, within TADPAI all members who turn up to monthly meetings have voting rights. An Executive that very much looks like a Committee is established to provide the day-to-day administration of TADPAI in accordance with the decisions made by its members.

TADPAI exists to promote the social and economic development of Tarago Village and District, and this is done through the coordination, working with and supporting of all the Community Groups, companies and individuals living and/or operating within the Tarago District. In the District of Tarago the membership base of all our Community Groups in terms of where members reside and other issues, is roughly split two thirds in Goulburn Mulwaree and one third in Queanbeyan Palerang council areas.

The election of the committee positions was chaired by Henry Gundry and the position holders for 2019/20 are:President: Wayne BaynhamVice President: Adrian EllsonSecretary: VacantDeputy Secretary: Richard KirkwoodTreasurer: Gill ShepherdDeputy Treasurer: VacantPublic Officer: Cid Riley

President Wayne Baynham resumed the chair and thanked the outgoing committee for its efforts over the past year, including Kathryn O’Malley in her role of Treasurer but who has had to move out of the area for family reasons and Keith Hunter who is retiring from many community groups and has been a very active long-term member. A special thank you to Judy Alcock, who has been past President of TADPAI for over 10 years and Vice President last year and who also took on the Treasurer’s role for when it became vacant mid term. Judy is stepping down from an executive position but I am sure will still be very active in promoting the District’s interests. He also thanked all the members for their attendance and input over the past year.

Two positions are vacant and one of them is a vital position of Secretary as I have stepped down from this position to be the Secretary of the Tarago Show Society,

and the workload of both positions is too much for me in my current employment and family circumstances. Being Secretary of TADPAI has been rewarding and I encourage you to give serious consideration to taking on this vital position within our community. The position of Deputy Treasurer is a new role which will focus mainly on fund raising and assisting the Treasurer with budgeting. Please contact one of the committee via our mail box [email protected] or one of the contact phone numbers below.

SENIORS DAYCalling all seniors over 60! TADPAI will host our annual Seniors Day on Sunday 2nd June 2019 at the Tarago Hall starting at 10am. Please contact Judy Alcock on 0439 603 234 or email [email protected] to register so we have numbers for catering purposes. The catering will be provided by the ladies of the Tarago CWA Evening Branch and is sure to be delicious. The day is support byour community groups and is FREE for all seniors to attend. Just one way we can say thank you to all our seniors for all that you do for our community. One of the highlights of the day will be the rewarding Tarago’s Senior of the Year. Please also contact Judy to nominate that person who you know in the community who is our unsung hero or heroine, who goes about doing things that need to be done and deserves to be recognised for their efforts and time.

TADPAI MEMBERSHIPTADPAI exists to promote the social and economic development of Tarago Village and District. We are interested to hear from and encourage you to join TADPAI if you have a similar interest to us in the social and economic development of Tarago Village and District, apply to join TADPAI by contacting one of the committee, see below for contact details.Wayne Baynham Adrian Ellson Gill ShepherdPresident Vice President Treasurer0415 174 935 0456 497 575 0419 639 254

VEOLIA SOLID RECOVERED FUEL (SRF) FACILITYNSW Planning and Environment has given planning approval to Veolia to establish a SRF Facility at Woodlawn. This new facility will convert waste into fuel pellets for fuelling incinerators that in-turn will generate electricity (a form of renewable energy). Veolia has advised that the most likely scenario is that the SRF products will be transported to Sydney ports by rail and exported overseas to approved waste incinerators.

This said, my understanding is that the financial go ahead for this new SRF Facility is based on the continued operation of Veolia’s Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) Facility, which operations and products produced is now subject to changes in NSW Legislation, and may force the Facility to close in the longer term, but the Waste Industry as a whole are lobbying for these types of facilities to continue to be used to produce recyclable products.

The only concern that I have is that the Goulburn Mulwaree Council has publicly advised that there is

Willow Glen Gardeners Meeting April 2019

While doing a bush walk through the Royal National Park near the Audley Weir many years ago, I was lucky enough see a stunning red waratah in flower, more striking and

beautiful in its own native habitat. The brilliant red petals stood out strikingly against the muted tones of the Australian bush. If anyone has seen the glorious coloured swathes of wild flowers in Western Australia or even in any part of the outback after rain, the sight will have

etched a special place in their memory as did seeing this gorgeous waratah for me.

Over the last 30 years, the Mount Annan Botanic gardens, where our garden club members gathered for their April meeting, has created numerous cultivated displays of our unique flora in a native bushland setting over an extensive area of more than 30 hectares. The plantings are designed to take visitors on an exploration of our distinctive plant life with the Connections Garden (pictured below) being the premier garden within the site.

The total area covers 410 hectares with 20 kilometres of walking tracks and many kilometres of road connecting the various specialty gardens around the whole Botanic Garden.

Our club members met at the café for coffee and cake then set off for a walk through the Connections garden which took us through various different landscapes displaying some of our iconic trees and native vegetation. The drive around the whole garden takes in different specialty gardens that feature Malley Eucalypts, the

Eucalypt Arboreta and the Wattle, Banksia and Western gardens. There are large lawned areas with pavilions overlooking several lakes, with free BBQs and tables for picnics and yet more areas for weddings. A visit to the famous Australian Plantbank is a must for the plant enthusiasts among us.

Under rather dark cloudy skies (“with only a 10% chance of rain” to quote the weatherman!) we enjoyed our lunch at one of the many picnic tables, although we had to defend our spread from the many ‘hungry’ birds looking for any spare crumbs to eat. We all had a most enjoyable day at the gardens and as usual discussed our own various gardens and the problems we face in our particular part of the world. Most of our gardeners were still harvesting some wonderful fruit and vegetables but alas also bemoaning the constant barrages from our hungry wild life that also have a taste for ripe and delicious fruit and veggies!

Our next garden club meeting will be held at Marilyn’s place in Braidwood where we’ll be helping her with the plans for her new garden on the 7th May starting at 10am. As usual bring a plate of goodies to share. New members are very welcome to join us and should ring Warren or Judy on 4844 5350 or 0438 605 821 for details.

an overseas based company interested in setting up a waste incinerator in the Council’s area, but a specific location has not been stated. The jury is out on the health implications associated with living near a waste incinerator, and many governments have banned their use, including the ACT Government and if I am to believe correctly the NSW Government in and around Sydney (albeit I might be wrong on this point). Veolia is adamant that it has no intention of building and operating a waste incinerator at Woodlawn, and we can only hope that it is nobody’s intention to build a waste incinerator at Woodlawn until the technology and processes have been proven safe for everyone.

Two-spotted mite on some Viburnum tinus plants. It’s the common evergreen Viburnum. There are a few ways to combat this pest. Cut off and burn affected parts of the plant, buy predatory bugs to fight the battle for you (these can be posted to you via stockists, e.g. www.bugsforbugs.com.au), spray with Natrasoap, Rose Shield or Maverick. You must ensure that the undersides of the leaves are sprayed as well. This pest actually attacks many plants in the garden. Azaleas, Camellias, Roses, even beans. Try not to spray too often as these sprays will kill the ‘good bugs’ too. But more than 1 application will be needed.

Spray peaches and nectarines with a fungal spray or a copper based spray at leaf fall to reduce the occurrence of Leaf Curl. Purchase as ‘Leaf curl spray’ product. If your plants are badly affected, you will need to spray twice in one year; at bud swell and leaf fall.

So much can be grown in the vege patch over winter, here is the list: broad beans, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, fennel, garlic, kale, leeks, lettuce, onion, Pak choy/Bok choy, snow peas, radish, spinach and turnips and swedes. If you’re going to let your ‘patch’ rest during the winter months why not grow a green manure crop to help the soil rejuvenate. Or even spreadsome Lucerne mulch over the soil. It will prevent weeds from emerging and also feed the microbes (good guys) in the soil.

Now is the time to start placing orders for bare-rooted Roses, Fruit trees and spring bulbs. Either call into your local nursery or go on-line to order bare-rooted stock. It’s the cheapest way to get the plants to your door. Start to prepare your ground now by adding well composted animal manure.

Move pots of frost tender plants onto verandas. Make sure your indoor plants are not touching glass windows during winter. Start to reduce watering times.

DROUGHT TOLERANT PLANTINGSAs a Landcare group we are often involved with revegetating areas which had been previously clear. This may be on public land as in town or roadside gardens or private property in partnership with the landholder. There are various reasons why new planting zones are beneficial, especially when native and/or local species are selected. Examples of this include attracting and supporting native wildlife, increasing biodiversity, protecting and enhancing soil quality, erosion control and protection from strong winds. They also can provide a colourful and uplifting display even when the region is in grips of drought.

The climate of the Tarago region is variable and drought is an inevitable feature in our landscape, therefore points to consider when planning what to plant is crucial to the success of a project. Volumes can be written on this subject, so I have only listed a few items to be considered if deciding to establish a new planting area. This is by no means an exhaustive list but hopefully willget you started.• Is the area suitable for successful revegetation?

Aspect, Flooding/waterlogged ground, ease of access, bedrock below surface etc. These may help to choose an appropriate site.

• Future use: Generally, the area should be zoned for life as these are long-term projects.

• Existing vegetation: If there is unwanted noxious weeds or other species which will inhibit the success of the new veg. This needs to be dealt with first.

• Deer especially and/or other unhelpful animals (which like pulling out newly planted seedlings). Mechanical protection such as fencing, or plant cages is prudent here if this is likely.

• Season: To be most successful plantings should be avoided in the hottest months of the year, typically this means to plant from April to Nov.

• Water: Even drought tolerant plants need water until well established. Willingness to regularly water the site may be necessary until plants are growing strongly.

• Ground preparation: Either rip lines or drilling will work well, The object is to provide fresh soft ground that new roots can enter and allow water and nutrients to penetrate.

• Seedlings (tube stock) tend to be more successful than more mature plants. Your local nursery is best to advise on species selection for your desired outcome.

Hope this helps, if you are thinking of going down this road. Happy planting.

About 8-12+ regular members get together on Wednesday and Saturday from 10am to about 2pm. Guests and “drop ins” responding to the Men’s Shed open sign are additions for coffee or a chat and are always welcome.

In the last Tarago Times we explained “What happens at Men’s Shed?”. The shed is more and more reflecting the interests of our members. Some, such as Terry (TJ) Dunn have wide experience and interests. Terry is our Workshop Manager and a man of many talents.

TERRY DUNNBorn in Melbourne, he moved to Canberra after a couple of weeks and spent much of his younger life in Deakin. A few years in Sydney allowed him to complete an apprenticeship with the then PMG which became Telecom and eventually T e l s t r a . Terry took a package from Telstra after 28 years and bought his Barnet hobby farm after looking around the outskirts of C a n b e r r a . Terry worked another 14 years at E c o w i s e , b e f o r e retiring just over five years ago. Motorbike (mainly BMWs) is Terry’s preferred transport. He had a motorbike licence long before a car licence. Terry travelled around Australia twice; on a 1981 Yamaha in 1983 and a 1958 BMW in 2000. He has also been to Perth a couple of times to visit an older brother. Jenni (Cole) is his partner (since 1981), they forgot to have children and get married but the relationship seems to work okay. Terry likes stir-fries and VB, tinkering with his bikes, stationary engines and other mechanical items around the farm, building things and generally keeping busy. His only quiet time is first thing in the morning, before the animals start moving around. Little did Terry know he would make this area his home, after spending years organising and attending the Loaded Dog Motorbike Rally at the Tarago Showground. Being involved in Tarago district events over the past couple of years has been fulfilling and he can be found at the pub fairly regularly, if not at the Men’s Shed. He is also on the Tarago Show Committee (Vice President) and a member (Equipment Officer) of the Boro Mount Fairy Rural Fire Brigade.

VISITORSA recent Men’s Shed guest was Jim Thornton from Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA). He spent the day with us and provided some insights. One was the misconception that all sheds are “tool or hands on oriented”. Jim explained some sheds have no tools at all but plenty of games, coffee and lounges where men can get or play together. At Tarago we have a number of passive games and a ping pong table setup to engage the more active of us. Coinciding with the recent Tarago Market day, the Men’s Shed was open and we had a number of visitors. These included Tarago’s own, local police officer Gary Handsaker, Goulburn headquarters chief John Sheehan with Mick Calleja (Rural Crime Detective) who attended the police community engagement day which was held in the shed. They gave talks on different aspects of rural policing. This included addressing issues such as farm and equipment security, cattle and sheep duffing, guns, legal and illegal hunters and other trespassers such as dogs. Gary also reminds us of a few important numbers; “Emergencies” – call triple zero, “Police assistance line” 13 14 44 and “Crime stoppers” 1800 333 000 and he is based in Tarago, covers the district and is here to assist us on 4849 4411.

GRANTSThe shed is getting closer to “normal”. Well, that is as close as a new operation can get. We still have a recreation room with no lining, ceiling or heating, etc. However, we have applied for grants for; solar panels to make our operation more sustainable, recreation room lining, ceiling and mezzanine floor to make it more liveable. Yet to come are provision for car parking and a specialist sharpening tool.

DONATIONSAmazing what comes out of the woodwork when you ask. Recall last issue we asked for windows and doors. Well that’s done. Thanks to Dave Cosgrove for donation of a PA door. We also have several offers for a window to install in the recreation room. Now we only need to decide and install them. We would still like some building materials such as yellow tongue flooring or plywood sheeting or tongue and groove floor boards to form the mezzanine floor, a wood heater, R1.5 or R2.5 fibreglass or similar wall insulation and up to 64m2 carpet tiles for the recreation room. A new request is for a flammable goods cabinet, aka that old large, single door (or 2 side x side - French door) fridge. We will even take it away (free). Any available out there in the District?

The shed mascot, Tassie Beileiter (towing his master, Howard, at the end of the lead) has been a regular visitor to the shed. Have you? See you there or you can contact the Secretary, Owen Manley on 0409 041 783 or [email protected]

GENERAL NEWSThe second last day of Term 1 saw 2/6 students travel to Wollondilly for the annual TREC (Tablelands Rural Education Community) cross-country carnival. The results of Mrs Katen’s training plan, over the past number of weeks, was clearly evident with Tarago students performing fantastically well over the challenging and arduous course. All students exceeded expectation with Josh Chinnery and Cooper Tinson finishing 1 and 2, respectively, in the 12 years boys, Jasmine Briggs 3rd in the 11yrs girls, Lucy Henderson 3rd in the 10 yrs girls, Lani Tinson 2nd in the 8/9 yrs girls and Jayden Briggs 3rd in the 8/9 yrs boys. Great work everyone!

During Term 2, each Wednesday, Tennis will return, with lessons for all students K-6 with David Ridland’s Tennis Goulburn providing expert, professional coaching. As always class P.E. will support this program.

In Week 10 we welcomed a new family to our school. Kaleb and Cooper Wielders joined us into years 3 and 1. Welcome to both boys and their family.

We continue to be supported by our wonderful P&C team who have been providing lunch orders twice a term, in week 10 we were offered a delicious Chicken Burger. Thank you to Jacqui and Paige for organising.

Mr Dempsey has completed construction of a new sand pit under the shelter near the play equipment. Thank you to Mr Tubman for his help in filling the pit with fresh Sydney sand.

ASSEMBLYWeek 10 saw our final Assembly for Term 1, with many students receiving merit awards. The

highlight of the assembly was a fabulous and informative PowerPoint presentations from all 3-6 students showcasing their science research. Their knowledgeable, and well-constructed, presentations not only demonstrated their understanding of their chosen topic, it also showed their understanding and ability to use technology as a presentation tool.

HARMONY DAY2019 is the 20th anniversary of Harmony Day. This year Harmony Day was celebrated on Thursday 21st March. Orange is the traditional colour to represent Harmony Day, students were encouraged to wear something orange on the day. The staff also embraced the chance

to wear something orange. Students investigated the significance of Harmony Day and created artwork and writing in relation to this special celebration.

K-2 NEWS K-2 have been focusing on improving the quality of their writing. They have

been working on punctuation and focussing on important grammar features to enhance their work. Some students have focussed on listening to how words are voiced and the letter/sound correspondence, to assist them when reading and writing. Geography has involved a unit about “Places” and “Our Place in the World”. Students have also been creating models of buildings from Tarago and constructing a town also learning about built, natural and managed places. In Science a unit regarding Water and how we can save it has been central. Everyone is enjoying special read and relax time after lunch and sharing about what they are reading and have participated in morning fitness undertaking a variety of physical activities throughout the week.

3-6 NEWSYear 3 - 6 students prepared pizza dough as part of their Science Unit. Watching the reaction of the yeast when warm water and sugar were added was fascinating. After adding flour to the yeast mixture the students watched as a small ball of dough doubled in size. However, the most exciting part was when two ordinary balls of dough were made into two delicious pizzas!

TECH CORNERSTEM (Science, T e c h n o l o g y , Engineering and M a t h e m a t i c s ) continues to be a focus at Tarago Public School. 3-6 students have been working on creating a robot that “senses” an object that it approaches and either stops or avoids a collision. This has been a challenge, however all groups have had success working with the EV3 platform and intergrating ultra-sonic sensors into their designs. The challenged evolved to having to create a vehicle thatcould self-drive and make its way through an exit point within a confined space. Watching the groups at work gives confidence that when we get to trial a driverless car, we will be in safe hands. Equally, it is great to see students developing the highly valuable skills of collaborative practice, team-work and team-building.

We held our last meeting on 29th March which was our presentation night and all our athletes received their personal best certificates and participation trophies. We farewelled Aydan Saad our graduating Under 17 year old with a graduation trophy and introduced a new trophy for the athlete who achieved the most Personal Best Scores in the season. This was won by our youngest athlete Charlie Hallam with a very creditable 28 personal best scores. Charlie is pictured right with his trophies. Congratulations to all our athletes on their achievements this season.

On the 6th April we helped at the Windellama Country Fair and Auction by providing the barbeque catering and cakes and tea and coffee to the many hungry and thirsty people who came to the fair. Many thanks to the organising committee for inviting us to take part in this fundraiser, there were an impressive number of people through the gate and we fed and watered most of them. To date we don’t have the fund raising figure but will put this on our Facebook page when we receive the sum. A huge thanks everyone who helped us on the day.

Ian O’Donnell our president along with Victoria O’Donnell one of our ACTLAA championships athletes, pictured right, Neil Shepherd, our treasurer and myself attended the ACTLAA Gala Dinner which was held on 13th April 2019 at the Hellenic Club in Woden. It was

a wonderful night with the guest speaker being Stuart Rendell, Commonwealth Games Hammer throw gold medal winner and who is also a local Taragonian. We were thrilled when we were presented with the Small Centre Cup for 2019. This is our first full season and to be declared winners of this cup which is awarded to the ACTLAA registered centre with under 100 athletes who amongst other criteria performs best at the ACT State Championships is an honour indeed. The credit must go to our athletes who represented us at the championships, Aydan Saad, Seth Saad, Lucy Henderson, Kaylee Henderson, Victoria O’Donnell and Toby Roberts and to all their parents and supporters who helped them.

Commissioning activities at Heron Resources’ Woodlawn Zinc-Copper Project are underway with ore (tailings) processing commenced from hydraulic mining. From here, we will start the ramp up towards steady-state production in the June quarter.

With construction activities 99% complete, the number of Sedgman personnel have reduced from a peak of 240 to approximately 40. Heron is also pleased to report that of its current 85 staff at the Woodlawn site, 57% have come from the local area, with the remainder having relocated.

In other operational news, the seeding of Hickory’s Paddock, east of the plant site at Woodlawn has been completed and with favourable weather conditions has got off to a good start.

Thanks to all those that attended the meeting at Tarago Men’s Shed at the end of March, it was good to see so many familiar faces there for the meet and greet with our visiting Police from Goulburn, Detective Calleja our Rural Crime Investigator and Chief Inspector Sheehan the Officer in Charge of Goulburn Police Station. I hope those in attendance got some valuable information out of the day.

A big thank you must go to the Tarago Men’s Shed for hosting the meeting along with the CWA ladies for the coffee and homemade sausage rolls!!!

From previous columns I’ve highlighted the need for safety and security around the house and property. It may not stop the crooks but at least we want to make it harder for them. This was evident from a break and enter last month along Williams Drive, sadly they got away with a few items however the good work by the owner has meant these “grubs” didn’t get everything they wanted. One item they did manage to take was an unusual looking wheelbarrow that is pictured right. If you have seen anything similar that may have just appeared at your neighbours or even seen in your travels, please let us know by contacting either myself at Tarago Police Ph 4849 4411 or Goulburn Police Ph 4824 0799.

As usual the amount of traffic travelling through Tarago on weekends, especially on “Long Weekends” has been getting busier and busier. By all reports most have been behaving well with only a few infringements being issued by Goulburn Highway Patrol. Police have also been targeting drink driving with numerous Breath Tests being completed in our area, if you want to drink and drive, you will eventually get caught.

And finally, if you’re travelling along Bungendore Road just outside Tarago please show some patience if you happen to be travelling behind one of the mine trucks carrying the Railway Containers to Woodlawn Mine. All these trucks are fitted with Dash Cams and the quality

is amazing, I’ve already spoken to numerous motorists with some receiving hefty fines for overtaking over double un-broken lines. Some of the overtaking manoeuvres are nothing short of dangerous. Just be patient.

Awesome Hints That Will Simplify Your Life

1. Grow roses from cuttings - Here’s a great tip for growing roses from cuttings. Before planting, push the bottom ends of the cuttings into small potatoes. Moisture and nutrients in the potatoes will allow the cuttings to develop healthy roots. 2. Waterproof shoes - To turn your canvas shoes into waterproof ones, you need nothing but beeswax and a blow dryer. Spread beeswax all over your shoes. Next, use the blow dryer to melt the beeswax until you can no longer see it. Voila! Your waterproof shoes are ready!3. Smelly shoes - If you have bad-smelling shoes, place a few dry tea bags inside each shoe to absorb the smell. If your shoes are not just smelly but also wet, fill them with a mixture of rice and baking soda and leave for a few days.4. Tight shoes - If your new shoes feel too tight, here’s a way to stretch them. Stuff each shoe with wet newspaper as tightly as you can. Let the shoes dry, and then remove the newspaper.5. Find small lost items - Use your vacuum cleaner to find tiny items you’ve lost, such as earrings. Just cover the end of a vacuum cleaner with a stocking or pantyhose and start your search. Check from time to time to see if the object you are looking for is already there.6. Time-marked water bottle - Here’s a great way to keep track of your daily water intake. Draw lines on your water bottle with a marker pen, and then write the time beside the marked level. The marking will serve as a visual reminder for you to drink water, and it will help you achieve your daily water intake requirement.7. Remove toilet bowl stains - Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl, and let it sit overnight. Then wash itwith soapy water, and flush clean.8. Unclog drains easily - Run hot water down the drain for a minute, and then sprinkle 1 cup of baking soda down the drain. Slowly pour 1 cup of vinegar down the drain. Flush one more time with hot or boiling water.9. Clean the shower head - To clean your shower head or bathroom faucets, fill a plastic bag with white vinegar and secure it to the shower head with a rubber band. Allow it to soak in the vinegar overnight and remove the bag. It will be as good as new!10. Keep buttons from falling off - To keep your buttons in place, simply paint a bit of clear nail polish over the threads.11. Body odour - If you forgot to put on deodorant and you don’t want to smell like you’ve been at the gym, cut a fresh lemon or orange into two halves and just rub it

onto your skin. The body odour will disappear.12. Make ice last longer in a cooler - When you go to the beach and take your cooler with you, sprinkle salt on the ice so that it stays frozen for much longer.13. Fresh breath - If you left home and forgot to brush your teeth or you ran out of toothpaste, chewing an apple can help with bad breath.14. Citrus candles - Do you want your house to smell good for hours? Make an orange or a lemon candle, and its light and aroma will last a long time. 15. Open a stuck lid - You’ve probably heard numerous ways to open a stubborn jar lid. One of the most well-known and effective methods is to remove the lid using duct tape. But here’s what you can do if you don’t have duct tape on hand. Try running hot water over the lid for a minute or two, wipe down, and then open. You can also soak the lid in hot water to get a similar effect.16. Amplify your phone’s speakers -Put your phone into a drinking glass or a bowl to boost the volume of its speakers.

TINA MILSON; DAWN TO DUSTFriday, 29th March 6:00pm - Saturday, 11th May 4:00pmDawn to Dust presents Tina Milso’s deep passion for photography, Milson’s work is inherently a process of documentation. However, her sensitivity to the natural composition offered up by the landscape takes advantage of chance, creating moments of playfulness and subtlety. From portraiture to landscape, Milson’s diverse photographic portfolio highlights the resilience and vulnerability of country communities through drought, floods and everything in between. Taking inspiration from her sheep and cattle property in Goulburn, Milson explores her subjects through a range of vantage points, climates and reflections. Milson’s images document life as it occurs, un-staged and raw, all the while maintaining a special empathy characteristic of the human behind the machine. This exhibition is the most extensive presentation of the artist’s work at the Gallery to date and sits alongside six portraits she contributed to ‘The Art of Ageing’.Monday - Friday 9am - 5pmSaturday 12pm - 4pmWhere: Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, 184 Bourke StreetAdmission: FreeContact Details: Goulburn Regional Art Gallery184 Bourke StreetTelephone: (02) 4823 4494

UNTETHERED FIBRE ARTISTS – ‘un:Seen’Friday, 17th May - Saturday, 29th June Using fibre as the allegory of the invisible hidden within, ‘un:Seen’, is the fourth exhibition by Untethered Fibre Artists, with each exhibition title forming part of a poetic interconnected narrative. Evolving from the shared engagement with the three previous exhibition titles, the essence of the group exhibition are works that explore human interaction, impart a message and share a passion through imagery and meaning. Referencing emotion, memory, private histories, and relationships between people, artists tell stories through cloth and stitch, felted wool, print and paint. For ‘un:Seen’, twenty artists interpret the title, making connections to their own bodies of work. Each artist offers the viewer insight into that which is hidden, intangible, fleeting and exposed to the gaze of the audience.Opening night - Friday 17 May, 6pm - 8pmOpen: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm, Saturday 12pm - 4pmClosed public holidaysContact Details: Goulburn Regional Art Gallery184 Bourke Street, Telephone: (02) 4823 4494

KATTHY CAVALIERE - Works from the permanent collectionFriday, 17th May - Saturday, 29th JuneIn 2005 Katthy Cavaliere undertook a residency in Goulburn, creating new works responding to locale. ‘Living Rag Doll’, 2005, was a performance work shot live at ‘Tony’s New and Used Furniture’ in Verner Street, and ‘Gazed of the Masked Philosopher’ 2004, a photograph capturing the view of Goulburn through the eyes of our Big Merino. Holding both of these works in its permanent collection, the Gallery is now honoured to show three works from Cavaliere’s body of work that followed. The Gallery thanks the Estate of Katthy Cavaliere for their generous donation that has made this exhibition possible.Opening night: Friday, 17th May 6pm-8pmMonday-Friday: 9am-5pmSaturday: 12pm-4pm, Closed public HolidaysWhere: Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, 184 Bourke StContact Details: Goulburn Regional Art Gallery184 Bourke StreetTelephone: (02) 4823 4494
