Dear Parents, August 27, 2018

My name is Mrs. Britsch. I will be your child’s fourth-grade homeroom and math teacher this year. I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year working with you and your child. You can feel free to contact me about any questions or concerns you have. I am happy to hear from parents and students.

My numbers are: Home 937-687-2135 Cell 937-470-5426

Take-Home Folders and Agendas

The Take-Home folder will be an orange folder furnished by the school and will be sent home daily. The agenda is a book where the students can record daily assignments and where parents and teachers can communicate.

These items will be the primary methods of daily communication between school and home. Inside the folder will be homework for that evening and other papers which need to be returned to school the next day. You might also find letters and other papers with important information. Please check the folder and planner each night for important information or assignments. I do not require parental signatures unless I find it is needed or unless a parent requests it for student accountability.

Homework policy, late work, and tests

Homework is a very important part of a student’s academic achievement. It helps reinforce skills learned in school, helps retention of mastered skills, and helps students learn responsibility. Math homework is usually assigned Monday through Thursday. This homework will usually be a practice paper and possibly daily math fact memorization depending on a student’s

math level. Homework should not take longer than 20 minutes. If it does, please contact me immediately!

As a policy at 3 rd - and 4 th -grade, homework is due at the beginning of each class period. Students will be allowed one late pass for each of the following subjects per quarter: language arts, math, and science/social studies. Late work will be accepted the following day when using the pass. Credit will not be given for late work beyond the one-day extension (when using the homework pass). All other late or missing homework will result in a grade of zero for that particular assignment. The late assignment even when using the pass WILL count against the student for the No Missing Assignment Award at the end of each quarter.

A written excuse will be accepted for legitimate reasons, such as an evening spent at the hospital. Extended sports practice and forgetting homework at home or school, etc. are not legitimate excuses. Please call me or the school office if you have any concerns about this school policy.

Rainbow of Respect

In third and fourth grade, we use the ‘Rainbow of Respect’ as our behavior plan. Each student has a clothes pin with their name on it. Students move up or down the behavior chart based on behavior. A student can move up the chart for exceptional behavior. A student will move down the chart if they do not follow directions or continue to be a distraction to the class. Each child will have a behavior calendar that they are responsible for coloring at the end of each day. The color will represent their behavior for that particular day. Calendars are to be kept in their orange Take Home folders.

Color meanings: Orange – OutstandingPurple – Above averageGreen – Good behavior – Everyone starts on green each day.Yellow – WarningRed – Lose lunch recess

GradesMath grades will be based on each student’s

understanding of material not on the amount of effort put forth. Although effort and attitude will impact their

grades, their ability to explain an answer will be what most influences their grade. Grades will not be based

solely on effort and attitude.

I will expect students to master the math material covered during the school year. If a student has

difficulty mastering the material, I will provide opportunities for students to develop a better understanding. This can be one-on-one or small group instruction during recess, or math packets to provide practice at home. Practice math packets are not graded. They are simply opportunities for students to develop mastery of the material. Students may be asked to retake tests until proficiency is shown.

iPad ExpectationsAll students have the privilege of using an iPad to assist in their education

here at Greenville Elementary. As a part of this privilege, each student is expected to take the iPad home each evening and charge it. This responsibility should be considered on the same level as a nightly homework assignment and will be checked daily.

CommunicationGood communication between parents and the

school is essential to academic success of our students; therefore, it is important that we are able to contact each other when needed. I will make every effort to be available to you to answer any questions you or your child might have.

I much prefer to take care of misunderstandings and problems in as timely a manner as possible. So, please, feel free to call me at
