(2 Marks) 2. Compare the engineering stress and strain with the true
stress and strain for the tensile test of a low carbon steel that has the following test values. Given, load applied to specimen is 69,000 N, initial specimen diameter is 1.27 cm, and specimen diameter under 69,000 N load is 1.20 cm.
(5 Marks) 3. A large steel plate used in a nuclear reactor has a plane
strain fracture toughness of 87.9 MPa m and is exposed to a stress of 310 MPa during service. Design a testing or inspection procedure capable of detecting a crack at the edge of the plate before the crack is likely to grow at a catastrophic rate. Assume geometry factor, Y is 1.12.
