About ANNXANNXDESIGN

ANNXANNXDESIGN was founded in 2013 by

Han-Yin Hsu in Los Angeles, Cal i fornia. We l ike

to think of the body as a landscape for jewelry.

Our designs are focused on expressing the

elegance of this landscape, and explor ing the

gesture of each element as i t rests on the skin.

Mahuika Necklace 2.0 - The ref ined and completed result of

ANNXANNXDESIGN’s winning prototype entry in the Design

Museum Boston’s Rapid Jewelry Competit ion and the Shining

3D Fashion Show in Chengdu, China. We’re now happy to

introduce several var iat ions of the Mahuika Necklace to suit

dif ferent styles and dif ferent occasions.

Mahuika is the name of the Māori f i re deity, whose spir i t is expressed in the si lver ref lect ions,

evocative of gl istening f lames, which are visible in the movable structure of this necklace. Every

element is designed thoughtful ly as an individual form and also as part of an overal l gesture

to be draped around the neck. This necklace demonstrates a system for taking advantage of

3D print ing technology whi le treasuring the tradit ional si lver cast ing and pol ishing techniques.

MAHUIKA NECKLACE 2.0

MAHUIKA NECKLACE 2.0 - mini version -

In music, counterpoint is the overlaying of independent rhythms and contours with the

intention of creat ing harmony in their relat ionships. Inspired by this pr inciple, this necklace

design composes four dif ferent elements and expresses the energy in their relat ionships.

The pendent part of the necklace focuses on the interactive relat ionship of the overal l gesture, whi le

each element, or iginat ing from one of four or iginal shapes, changes gradual ly in size and shape.

COUNTERPOINT NECKLACE 2.0

3D print ing technology provides us with the chance to produce inter locking parts. I want to

explore the aesthetics of using this unique abi l i ty to design something that looks del ightful,

not only in the shapes themselves, but also when the parts involve each other. With this

necklace design, I want to express the shapes playing together.

MAVERICKS RING

Inspired by the energy captured in the big waves along Cal i fornia’s scenic coast.

Designed to bring out the qual i t ies of confidence and elegance; for the female to act bold and

take actions. From afar, i t shows off the simpleness of a clear moon shape, but gett ing closer,

the sophist icated arrangement of the del icate structure wi l l surprise the viewer. By extract ing

the sense of the butterf ly, I hope to share with you the butterf ly’s spir i t , which shows its identi ty

without fear.

This necklace captures the swaying effect of the wearer ’s changing posture and move-

ments to show the del icacy and elegance of the body. When I designed this necklace,

I was inspired by tradit ional chain mai l techniques, to which I added a sense of spring.
