ABOUT SPIE GIKI CHAPTER
SPIE GIKI Chapter is the one of the three chapters of SPIE International from Pakistan and
thus represents Pakistan worldwide. As an emerging society, the SPIE GIKI Chapter is the
growing legacy of those who seek to learn, discover and innovate by creating, promoting
and sustaining a multifaceted platform for photonics, photo- optics and instrumentation.
The GIKI Chapter also has strong associations with both indigenous and foreign companies
and academic/technical collaboration in the form of seminars and workshops is a frequent
experience for members. Regular visits and tours, to some of the latest engineering
complexes, are conducted to facilitate hands- on experience.

GIKI-SDSU International Seminar on INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NEXT GENERATION ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES (ICONGET 2016) & WORKSHOP ON SOLAR
CELL CHARACTERIZATION TECHNOLOG
The GIKI-SDSU International Seminar on INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NEXT
GENERATION ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES (ICONGET 2016) & WORKSHOP ON SOLAR CELL
CHARACTERIZATION TECHNOLOG was a 3 day event aimed at the new methods for the
generation of power and electricity was held in GIKI. It was a collaboration of GIK Institute,
South Dakota State University (SDSU) USA, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and
USAID.
Organized by SPIE, it attracted many individuals around Pakistan. Professors from Pakistan
and from foreign countries visited GIKI to deliver lectures and show their research work
related to the topic. Those who were unable to come, shared their ideas through Skype. The
significance of this conference is of great interest as the topic of discussion was to demolish
the crises leading to power failure and to come up with a source that would fulfill the need
of every citizen at a very low cost. Professors that visited have been doing research on this
for a long time and they wanted to implement their ideas. Their stay and all meals where
included in the package given to them.
