Dear Friends,

We are proud to share this newly formulated report with you—our valued supporters, volunteers, and friends. As one of the first annual reports created by the Schuylkill United Way in many years, we hope you will find it informative and a true display of how we strive to improve lives and strengthen our community.

Everyday, the Schuylkill United Way works to advance the common good by focusing on the building blocks for a good life—a quality education, financial stability, and good health. Our long-term goal is to create far-reaching and sustainable changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place.

We are grateful for your tremendous support in helping us achieve success in the 2011 ―EveryONE Matters‖ Campaign, where we raised over $960,000. Our accomplishments are possible through the dedicated efforts of our partner agencies, and all of the donors, businesses, individuals, schools, and volunteers that demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the annual campaign.

As we celebrate our 75th Anniversary this year, we can take pride in the fact that we have changed millions of lives and continue to do so every day. The Schuylkill United Way has been the force behind organizing and mobilizing people and organizations in our region to improve lives and change the community conditions that affect us all. We all win when a child succeeds, when families are self-sufficient, and when people of all ages are leading healthy lives.

We can look back on 2010 as a year of hard work, generosity, and vision. As we look forward, we are encouraged by your ongoing support and our continued commitment to creating better opportunities and a stronger community for all.

Thank you for supporting us, so we can support others!

Sincerely,

Kelly K. Malone Jeanne Boyer Porter

Programs & Services Annual Campaign

All donations received from September until November through the generosity of corporate, employee, and individual giving. Campaign helps donors to increase knowledge and understanding of, access to and involvement with the Schuylkill United Way and its 15 partner agencies.

Stuff the Bus A month long school supply drive held each July. In 2010, Stuff the Bus collected over 900 backpacks, stuffed them with school supplies, and delivered them to each of the 15 partner agencies to be distributed to children in need throughout Schuylkill County.

Day of Caring A program developed to help connect donors to a meaningful volunteer experience by giving them the opportunity to learn more about the agencies they support. In May 2010, over 150 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and completed numerous community service projects for 9 of the 15 partner agencies.

Emergency Food & Shelter Program The Schuylkill United Way serves as the local administrator for the FEMA program which provides funds to supplement and extend current available resources for emergency needs, including rent, food, and energy assistance. For the year 2010, the local EFSP board was awarded $67,540 in federal funds to distribute to five local organizations.

Prescription Assistance The FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card is available to anyone who does not currently have prescription coverage. The average savings in Schuylkill County are typically 37% off the cost of prescriptions.

Student United Way

The Schuylkill United Way is currently in the process of forming a Student United Way at both high school and collegiate levels. The Student United Way is a student-led community change organization where students primarily focus on giving, advocating, volunteering, connecting with the community, growing as leaders, and building a lasting relationship with their local United Way.

As we continue our journey toward building better awareness, we consider this a big step in the right direction. We hope to educate students and individuals about the United Way and help inspire change within the community. The Student United Way will open doors to educate others and provide people with a firm grasp on what the United Way does, how it operates, and why it’s important to live united.
