forCaritasJapan.IamenclosingtheCaritasJapanAnnualReportsothatyoumightknowthevariousactivitiesyourgenerositymakespossible.

Inresponseto thecallofPopeFrancisforaworldinwhichnooneisexcluded,CaritasInternationalisisdevelopingaworldwidecampaigntosupportrefugeesandmi-grants.Eachpersonwhomustleavehisorherhomelandhasauniquebackgroundandstory.Bylisteningtothestoriesthateachonehasinsteadofsimplycategorizingthemas“refugees”or“migrants,”wewillsupport theirdignityas individualsbelovedbyGod.Thisinternationalcampaigncallingustonurturea“cultureofencounter”wherenooneisexcludediscalled“SharetheJourney”inEnglish.InJapan,wearepromotingitasthe“ZeroExclusionCampaign”(haijozerocampaign).

ReconstructionofthevariousplacesthatsufferedfromtheGreatEastJapanEarth-quakeofMarch11,2011,remainsCaritasJapan’spriority.Butwealsoremaincom-mittedtocontinuingoursupportactivitiesinnaturaldisastersandtheseeminglynever-endingregionalconflicts invariouspartsof theworld.Manypeoplemust journeythroughplacesofdisaster,conflictandreconstruction.

TheactivitiesofCaritasJapanarenotmerelylimitedtoprovidingeconomicsupporttopeoplefacingsuchdifficulties.CaritasJapanwillcontinueencouragingencountersbothinJapanandabroadsothatmanypeoplecanmeetandsupportoneanotherandcreateaworldwithoutexclusion.

IbelievethatGod,thegiveroflife,desiresaworldwhereallpeoplerespectandsupporteachother.

Let’scontinuetojourneytogethersothatwecanbuildtheworldthatGodwants,aworldinwhichnoneofuswillbeexcluded.

EspeciallyintheAsianregion,thehumanrightsofmigrantworkersarenotprotectedand theproblemof trafficking in persons is gettingworse.Todealwiththisproblem,theCaritasor-ganizationsoftheMekongRiverbasincountriesarecooperating,andinboththesendingandre-ceivingcountriestheysupportaprogramtoco-operateoncaseworkandmakeuseofitinpro-vidingpolicyadviceineachcountry.

Social Awareness

Intheworldtoday,peoplefacethreatstohumanrightsandlifeitself.Inordertopromoteawarenessofthesesituations,CaritasJapansponsorstrainingsessionsandseminarsaswellaspublishingbookletsthatdeepenunderstandingofthesechal-lenges.

Activity Theme(2017-2019):AimingforadiversesocietywithoutexclusionInthedecadesince2007,wehavefocusedonhow

thechurchcanrespondtotheproblemsofself-deathand isolation.Themeswehaveexploredare“TheTragedy of Isolation Ending in Self-Death andSuicide,”“Society’sRoleinIsolation,Self-DeathandSuicide,”“HowMight theChurchRespond to thisSocialReality?”

Basedon thateffort,wehaveset the themeforeducationcommitteeactivitiesfrom2017as“Aimingfor adiverse societywithout exclusion.”Wewillconsideropportunities fordiversity in the faceofintolerance,andhowindividuals,churchesandlocalcommunities can build a society that accepts allwithoutexclusion.

CaritasInternationalishasconducteda“SharetheJourney”migrationcampaignwithafocusonmigrantsandrefugeessinceSeptember27,2017.Thiscampaignaimstofostera“cultureofencounter”withmigrantsandrefugees inall thecommunities related to them(countriesoforigin,transitcountries,hostcountries).The165CaritasorganizationsthataremembersofCaritasInternationalisaretakingpart inthiseffort inwaysthatsuit their localcircumstances.

InJapan,wearepromoting theZEROExclusionCampaign:Meetingpeoplebeyondnationality, acollaborationofCaritas Japanand theCatholicCommissionof Japan forMigrants,RefugeesandPeopleontheMove(J-CaRM).
