Dear Church,The theme framing 2018 was ‘The Year of Release’ and that was what we experienced as a church family.

At the beginning of the year we said yes to the honour of extending the Vision of Hillsong Church into our city Berlin and beyond. And towards the end of the year, we were able to purchase, mortgage free, our first property which will be our office facility right in the heart of Berlin!

This report is full of these and the many other good reports of how God made 2018 The Year of Release.We hope and pray you would be enco-uraged by them and look forward to all that God will do in 2019!

In 2018, our 216 volunteers went above and beyond to welcome people home at our Sunday services at Kino in der Kulturbrauerei. Through friends bringing friends we saw an increase in our Sunday attendance throughout the year.

We created more room for families and children by moving kids church to Jangada Dance Studio and by creating a Family Room to accommodate all the new parents with babies.

In April, 148 of our women and girls joined thousands of others from all over world at Colour Conference London to be inspired and strengthened, ready to boldly set sail into the future. Colour Conference is a gathering to strengthen, sharpen and equip thousands of women around the world. It is a stand for justice and the mobilisation of women, who have experienced the incredible grace and love of a wonderful saviour.

Hillsong Conference is about ‘championing the cause of the local church’ - an amazing time for us as a church to be inspired, refreshed and energised to live out our God-given purpose. This year, 184 people from Hillsong Berlin - including 49 volunteers serving behind the scenes - travelled to the O2 Arena in London to be part of our three-day conference.

E A S T E R W E E K E N D & C H R I S TM A S C O N C E R T We took the opportunity of Easter

Weekend to share the message of Easter with our city through our ‘Unfinished Story’ campaign, helping people from all walks of life and ages realize that their story is unfinished.

Our Christmas concert ‘The Gift’ brought the message of Jesus in a contemporary way to over 1200 people across three concerts, highlighting the work of Compassion and seeing 70 children sponsored.

In September, we had the privilege to be part of Berlin’s fifth festival of churches at Alexanderplatz attended by over 2000 people. The open air concert followed a day with presentations from over 30 churches across Berlin. We were honoured to be able to praise God and lift up the name of Jesus in the heart of our city.

Community

Our Dinner Parties get together fortnightly on Thursdays in homes, cafes and bars across the city. Eating together in a relational way creates a sense of belonging, caring, sharing and family. It’s where authentic friendships flourish and where kindness is expressed locally and globally. Throughout this year our Dinner Parties were able to contribute over €20,500 towards our Strategic Partnerships.

For the last 7 years we’ve taken our Dinner Parties to the Park in summer to be able to serve the people in our city around a table of hospitality and generosity. This summer we were able to host 1578 people across 3 different parks in Berlin.

Enlarge learning is a personal development and learning platform designed to resource people, enabling them to serve and add value to whatever sphere of society they find themselves in. There are three aspects of Enlarge learning: Faith Essentials, Life Skills and My Bible. In 2018, our 3rd Leadership Summer School empowered 33 people to take their next step in developing a tangible project that adds value to their world. During the 6-week program the participants developed and presented projects from various fields, such as education, arts, business, technology, innovation, and more.

S I S T E R H O O DSisterhood is all about creating an environment that places value on women of all ages by gathering together, being equipped and then mobilized to make a difference in local and global initiatives. This year we also started once a month Sisterhood Input & Coffee early morning gatherings empowering more women and girls to lead and impact in every sphere of life. One defining moment of 2018 was our Sisterhood United Day with the launch of Colour Conference 2019.

Breakfast Club provides an opportunity for the men to gather on a regular basis to support and encourage each other. The focus is on Life and Leadership, enabling them to grow in responsibility and maturity. This year we got together fortnightly on Thursdays in homes and cafes across the city. In February we hosted our annual men’s Ski Retreat.

Sports life is all about hanging out and making new friends, whilst having fun playing basketball, volleyball or football together. In 2018 we created more opportunities for people to come to Sports Life, as we got together regularly on Saturdays in 3 parks across the city.

We purposefully place value on the young people of our city. By expressing God’s message in a relevant way, we want to equip our 12- to 18-year-olds to become resilient urban citizens for the future. Throughout the year 4 Young & Free Nights and 9 Momentum Fridays helped our teenagers grow in taking responsibility, and gave them an opportunity to bring their friends into an environment that is uplifting and empowering.

In February, we launched our first-ever Encounter Conference for Youth and Young Adults aged 16-25: 24 hours filled with inspiration, live music, workshops and an opportunity to learn practical ways to be innovative. Through diverse forums and get-togethers, we aim to inspire young people to be hopeful about life, and empower them to add value to whatever sphere they find themselves in.

In August 43 young people were part of Summer Camp: 3 days filled with tribal games, worship, leadership sessions and panel discussions - an environment of trust, friendship and support encouraging young people to step into their God-given potential.

A 21WA L K F O R F R E E D O MIn October we hosted our 5th annual Berlin Walk for Freedom in context of our Strategic Partnership with the organisation A21 to raise awareness for the millions of people around the world who are trapped in human trafficking.

In June 250 runners in 50 relay teams were part of our 8th Charity Water Run to help break the cycle of poverty by giving people access to clean drinking water. The teams raised more than 13.000 € for a water well, benefitting a whole community in need.

This year we had the privilege to have Anna Baskerville from Charity Water UK with us. Through virtual reality we were able to share the story of one of the many communities benefiting from access to clean drinking water.

Kindness Dignifies is a community-focused initiative, seeking to serve some of the most marginalised people in Berlin. With over 377 volunteers involved we were able to add value in a practical way over the Easter and Christmas season.

Through bringing gifts and investing time into building authentic relationships we had the privilege to bless families and children below the poverty line, people seeking refuge and the elderly. On New Year’s Day and Good Friday we had the opportunity to come alongside the Berlin city cleaning department to clean Weinbergspark and Mauerpark - 2 of Berlin’s most visited parks.

Berlin is developing as a key European city and is positioned for influence in politics, Business and the digital economy. As the world is changing, new opportunities are emerging for a new kind of leadership needed to deal with these upcoming challenges. In June we were able to host our 2nd L.I.F.T. with keynote speaker Mal Fletcher, a one-day leadership event.

L.I.F.T. stands for leadership, influence, future, today and is a leadership platform helping to equip people in their role as a leader and influencer in the workplace.

Changing people’s perception about Jesus and his Church requires both people resources and financial resources. Our annual heart for the house offering, which is above regular tithes and offerings, has enabled us to speed up in seeing this vision become a reality.
