2017 Donors
Community Foundation of Portage & District owes its success in 2017 to the many donors, community volunteers and Board Members and their continued commitment to building a greater foundation and a better community!
Joyce Dalmyn and Joe Masi Fund
Joyce Dalmyn and Joe Masi set up this fund by a donation of shares, to “give back”
to the community that has afforded so many wonderful career and personal
opportunities to both of them. The funds are undesignated, so will be part of the
regular granting program. As Joyce chaired the Grants Committee for several years
during her time on the Board, they are particularly aware of the great programs and
initiatives that the CFPD supports in our community.
From a practical perspective, donating shares allowed not only a charitable tax
deduction, but also avoided the capital gains tax on the shares that were donated.
Kozy Korner Seniors Fund
Kozy Korner Seniors Inc. was founded in September 1973 by Mrs. Margaret Tucker. The organization raised funds by having Christmas meals, teas, lunches, cards, pool, shuffleboard games and much more. In 1978 Kozy Korner purchased the old Bank of Montreal building located at 115 Saskatchewan Ave E from the City of Portage to be used as a seniors drop in centre. After many years of changes and lack of membership the building was sold and funds from the sale were distributed to over 22 local non profit organizations & charities.
A few members carried on having lunch, playing bingo and cards until the organization officially closed on December 31, 2017. The last order of official business was to create the Kozy Korner Seniors Fund.
Kevin & Iris Yuill Family Fund
Kevin Yuill was born and raised in rural Portage la Prairie, Iris moved here in 1989 and together they farm north of the city. They have 2 grown children and 2 grand-children. In 2021 they will celebrate the 150th year of the family farm. The Portage area has been good to them and their business and now they want to give back to the community that means so much to them.
Through their success they want to encourage others to help and to succeed. Their donation in starting the 'Kevin & Iris Yuill Family Fund' and donating to the Portage Wildlife Fund will help perpetually in the Portage la Prairie area which is their long term goal.
John & Maureen Mitchell Family Fund
The fund was created as a vehicle to help contribute to the betterment of our community. We have been very fortunate to have been raised in Portage and watch the incredible investment of time, talent, and financial resources that others have made to enrich our community. We felt it was important that we participate in that process.
The proceeds of our fund will be divided between Special Olympics Manitoba and Central Plains Cancer Care.

Over $8.3 million has been donated to CFPD since our establishment either to the general endowment or specific funds.
Every gift made to CFPD is pooled & permanently invested in an endowment fund; the interest earned on these funds is distributed as grants to a variety of local charitable projects & organizations. CFPD was created in 1994 by a
group of 170 donors referred to as the Founders Club that shared the vision of working together as a community, for the community, forever.
To continue to build a better community for the next 25 years and beyond we need your help. CFPD aspires to distribute $350,000 annually back into the community and to
achieve this we need to increase our endowment fund to at least $10 million.
Your donation will make a difference in our community now and forever.

Message from the Chair
The Community Foundation of Portage & District is very pleased with the year that was 2017. We saw not only growth in donations and new funds but organizational changes that will position us well as we look to the future. CFPD moved into new office space on Saskatchewan Avenue which allows us higher visibility and more space to work with the community. In December, we welcomed our new Executive Director, Mandy Dubois, and we feel fortunate to have her expertise and community knowledge at the helm.
The Foundation received over $230,000 in donations and 4 new funds were created, ending the year with a total of $8,270,020 in our permanent endowment fund. As a result, in 2017, CFPD was able to return $288,625 back to the community by way of grants to nonprofit organizations & bursaries to individuals furthering their education.
Our success is truly the community’s success. With ongoing support of our Donors, Board of Directors and Volunteers, we are committed to benefiting our community & growing the endowment fund for the current and future needs of Portage & District.
Looking ahead to 2018 & beyond we are excited to be celebrating our 25th Anniversary with a number of initiatives & a special fundraising campaign. We are also very eager to award our $250,000 Impact Grant which will culminate the celebrations in June 2019.
Please join us in celebrating our upcoming milestone as we work together to reach our fundraising goals. Thank you again to all of our donors, volunteers and supporters for making 2017 a true success.
