ENDING POVERTY - ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME

AGRICULTURE& FOOD SECURITY

In Cambodia, 106 people (64 women) learned to cultivate multipurpose gardens and combat disease through nutrition.

287 goats were distributed in Ethiopia.

65 families in Guatemala established family gardens.

HEALTH & NUTRITION

658 people in Bangladesh participated in health lessons focused on diarrhea prevention, sanitation, vaccination, and prenatal care.

306 people in Ethiopia were trained in constructing and using latrines.

712 primary school children in Uganda had midday meals provided.

INCOME-GENERATION & LIVELIHOODS

40 Savings Groups with 671 members met regularly in Bangladesh; 8 bought sewing machines to start generating income.

5 cooperatives in Rwanda were trained in improved cultivation techniques to increase crop yields and family income.

6 Savings Groups with 107 members extended 49 loans in Haiti.

EDUCATION & LEADERSHIP

33 Bible club classes in 4 communities in Burundi had 936 children in attendance.

169 community leaders in Ethiopia were trained in disaster-risk management, preparedness, and early warning systems.

A new preschool for 60 children was started in Guatemala.

200 families in Peru received counseling in parenting skills.

EMERGENCY RELIEF

IMED shipped 5 food containers to 4 countries (Nicaragua, South Africa, Burundi, Guatemala).

2 relief containers valued at $93,905 were delivered to the Philippines.

FH Canada committed $80,000 to Typhoon Haiyan relief and partnered with Tearfund to support reconstruction activities by FH Philippines, including disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, health & sanitation, and access to clean water.

IN 2014 4,193 SPONSORS WERE ACTIVE IN THE LIVES OF 4,384 CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES.

COMMUNITY GRADUATIONS

Rinconada del Sol, Peru and San Roque, Philippines graduated as self-sustaining communities!

In Rinconada del Sol, 60% of secondary school graduates have gone on to technical school or university and every home now has electricity. The community started as a squatter settlement, but now they all own their land and have the property title! This has major implications for their legal rights.

In San Roque, early intervention for malnourishment is now part of maternal care and the school dropout rate has virtually disappeared. Several emergency preparedness plans are in place with a network of trained community members and provision sites to mitigate the staggering number of natural disasters that rock the islands each year.

IMEDINTERNATIONAL MEDICAL EQUIPMENT DISTRIBUTION

Collecting and refurbishing donated equipment from around Canada, IMED shipped 15 40-foot containers to 11 countries:

12 teams, totaling 102 participants representing 14 church or business partners, traveled to partner communities

35 artist sponsorship advocates concerts/events in 7 provinces resulting in 687 child sponsorships

18 poverty awareness Boot Camps and trainings across 6 provinces, educating 570 participants

1 Helping Without Hurting day-conference in Vancouver, BC with 450 attendees

17 of engagement events with church and business partners in addition to 12 other training events with 475 people attending
