Foreword from

President

Ladies and Gentlemen,

For AIESEC in HONG KONG, 2010 is a significant year for 3 key reasons: A) Achievement. For the very first time since 2005, we are able to sustain absolute growth in key aspects of operations, including our incoming and outgoing exchange programmes, partnerships, finances, membership size, leadership positions, participation at international conferences, as well as other countless areas. This is a huge achievement which all 600 members across the whole organisation have contributed to. B) Betterment. After months of planning, consultations, and modifications, several key internal protocols (particularly in the aspects of legal & compliance, governance, and financial operation) are finally brought into concrete implementation, which critically enhances the operational capacity and organisational sustainability. C) Competitiveness. After 5 years of implementing the AIESEC Experience (a framework which AIESEC globally started to adopt in 2004), AIESEC in HONG KONG has become increasingly relevant in the community, proven by the following facts in the 2005-2010 period:

1. The size of our outgoing exchange programme has grown five times larger. We now send around 150 students abroad for Global Internship Exchanges each year.

2. Our Global Talent Programme is gaining increased demand in the market, shown by the steady increase of firms and organisations looking to recruit young talents worldwide through the AIESEC platform, particularly in the education, finance, and public & logistic sectors.

3. The membership size has doubled to 600, signifying an increasing number of university students are aspiring to develop their leadership skills and enhance their global exposure.

4. A much more diverse profile of business professionals and social leaders has joined our Supervisory Group, Board of Honours, and Board of Advisors, adding invaluable guidance to our strategic development, operations, governance, and accountability.

Having existed in Hong Kong for 43 years since 1967, all these achievements will not stop us from growing even further; we aspire to create more impact, both in a broader and deeper scale. On the horizon, we have an ambitious goal: we are striving to see AIESEC in HONG KONG transform from simply a youth organisation, to a strategic partner for building globally-minded and socially responsible young human capital for Hong Kong society.

I congratulate AIESEC in HONG KONG on its good work and achievement in the 2009-10 session.

In a globalising environment where the economic landscape is fast changing and competition keen, embracing an entrepreneurial spirit and the right soft skills is vitally important. Our next generation must therefore be ready to be change-makers, possess a sense of proportion and have the perseverance and resilience to turn adversities into opportunities.

In this connection, the valuable exchange opportunities provided by AIESEC in HONG KONG have benefitted our young people immensely by equipping them with the essential qualities of global citizens of the new era.

I wish AIESEC in HONG KONG every success in the years ahead.

Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chungSecretary for Labour and Welfare

HKSAR Government

Young men and women of today are living in a fast-changing and increasingly globalized world. Competition could be intense but opportunities could also be abundant.

Young people represent the future of every society. Their outlook and abilities will mould the world. They should do everything they can to prepare themselves for these responsibilities. Exchange between young people across the world will help them break down barrios, overcome prejudices and debate their common future.

Over the years, AIESEC, together with partner organisations all over the world, has been fostering the formation of a meaningful

and common vision among the young generation. I sincerely believe that their efforts will secure better chance of peace and harmony in the world.

I wish AIESEC every success in their future endeavors.

We extend our warmest congratulations to AIESEC in 2009-2010. MTR Corporation has been an active supporter of AIESEC since 2005. Through the Corporate Responsibility - Learning Networks Initiative, we have conducted more than 10 workshops over the years, reaching AIESECers in the region and across Asia Pacific. We support this invaluable initiative that provides international growth opportunities for willing students.

As one of the world’s leading railways connecting and growing communities with caring service, we recognise the importance of preparing talented youngsters for careers where they can take their hearts together with their technical skills into their future endeavours.

AIESEC has spent the last year building responsible young leaders primarily

through partnership opportunities with the private sector. It is important to develop an awareness of the positive and negative impacts business can have. The skills learnt and unique relationships formed by AIESECers will prepare them well for challenges we cannot envision today. It is not possible to imagine a more valuable experience and investment of time than that provided by the AIESEC programme. It offers an excellent source of talent for employers looking to attract and recruit the best. Well done to AIESEC on another great year.”

I would like to congratulate the MC 0910 for the achievements over the past year. I am sure current MC members find serving on the MC a very rewarding experience. It was more than thirty years ago that I served on the MC of AIESEC in HONG KONG. Whenever I reflect on my university days, my AIESEC experience easily stands out as the most memorable. I served as the reception officer of AIESEC HKU LC and then as the Marketing Officer and the President on the MC. I always believe taking part in student activities is an integral part of university education. AIESEC experience in particular prepares students well for a career in management. Valuable experience would include learning how to run an organisation, how to manage people and resources, how to chair meetings, how to present arguments and meeting key personalities from the public and private sectors and learning from them.

While AIESEC offers useful learning experience, I have to stress that it does not mean there is no fun. In fact, having fun is also a truly AIESEC experience. I still recall the social functions we organised for overseas trainees in Hong Kong as well as those parties of the Asian and International AIESEC conferences. Most of all, AIESEC offers a good chance to make friends with students from all over the world.

Hong Kong is an international city and we all need to have a global perspective and on that score AIESEC provides a good start for Hong Kong students. So enjoy and make the most out of your AIESEC experience!

This year we achieve a net income of $57,809HKD, which is the result of strong growth in exchange revenue, as well as Local Committees’ national fee. Furthermore, the success of our International Project, GREENeration Y, created strong revenue from our partners.

Diversification of Income SourceIn 2009-10, we are able to diversify the income source of AIESEC in HONG KONG by increasing the percentage of the national fee to 30%, while maintaining the exchange and partnership income at 49% of the total revenue.

This accomplishment is an outcome of National Finance Model implementation, in addition to newly-formed national exchange partnerships such as Pfizer and Wal-Mart Asia.

Such a diversified revenue source will enable us to be more financially sustainable in the coming years. Financial ForecastWe expect the operating profit to be further increased in the coming years, as we are now able to build sustainable revenue sources through our exchange operations.

This year, the operating income from exchange has had a strong growth of 31%, as partners continuously recruit AIESEC interns. For example, investment banks and SMEs focusing on market expansion.

The success of our “GREENeration Y” project established new opportunities for future partnerships, and we foresee that similar projects can generate additional partnership revenue in the future. As a result, non-exchange operational income may increase depending on whether there are large-scale projects to be held.

Leaders’ Sharing

Back in Summer 2004, I was fortunate enough to start my university earlier without experiencing the A-Level exam. After the first semester, I started seeing my friends who worked so hard to get a dean list in exam, all day long. Life was all about achieving high GPA and fighting for internships. I started to get frustrated; for one thing is clear, i.e. I simply did not want to lock myself all day long in a library and experience my high school life again to keep competing for good grades.

There were three wants I had badly and deeply inside myself. Firstly, I wanted to have much more international exposure. Secondly, I wanted to know more about myself through experiencing life deeply and

intensely. Lastly, I wanted to live life in a fulfilling way, by making real differences. However, back then, I was not quite sure what exactly I could do to fulfill those “wants”. I decided to join AIESEC and explore. Never had I thought that I would stay in a place for so long. For some reasons, those three “wants” combined I had back in 2004 was an extremely compelling driving force to guide me to choose and experience a fully blessing, fulfilling AIESEC journey.

After six years time, with two study-breaks from university, taking up an AIESEC internship at a global firm, 15 plus short and long-term leadership roles at local, national and international levels, 40 plus conferences across 20 countries and territories including Austria, Belgium, Bonsia & Herzegovina, Mainland of China, Croatia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Moldova, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia and Turkey. This intense journey has enabled me to connect much more closely to my inner self, from discovering deeper about my values, principles, strengths, weaknesses, to how I perceive the world with new angles, to knowing clearly where my passion lies and where I want to make a difference in the future, at least 10 years down the road. That is a truly fruitful lifejourney.

Throughout those six years, there were three key patterns reappearing in my life and I would to share to all of you. (1) Our real passion is the genuine source of deep, creative and positive energy inside us that motivates and keeps us running and overcoming all those outsides noise, challenges, and hurdles on our runway and ultimately helps us to persist til the end. Do try to identify things that you feel “I really want to do that no matter what otherwise I will regret...” That is possibly where our passion comes.(2) If you are genuinely passionate about doing something, do not care about what you will get afterwards. Just do it! Return comes naturally. The more impact you make, the more you want to contribute and the more you gain, afterwards. (3) The 90/10 Rule - Life makes up of 10% of what happened to you (those cannot be changed anyway) and 90% of how we respond to it. How we respond to a situation (positively and negatively) will create entirely different results. Life is choice. Everyday we can choose to make a smile or not. Do choose to make a smile!

Thank you AIESEC!

Life is a choice, and joining AIESEC back in 2006 should be one of the best choices I have chosen for myself. Leading and managing such a massive international organisation and traveling to over 5 countries in 4 years have empowered me to be who I am now.

I started my AIESEC journey as a project team member in a cultural preservation project. Later I engaged in various teams like the organising committee for national conferences, a teamster of National Information Systems Team and several National Support Team roles. “To be a good leader, you need to be a good follower”, all those team experience I had has enabled me to understand better what a “leader” should be.

Boarding on my first flight in 2007 to India has made me to be a traveling addict. Since my first international experience, “Embracing and Living Diversity” has become one of my core values in life, and it has just been developed deeper and deeper in my heart. I participated at international conferences in India, Malaysia, Oman and Sweden with youth from over 100 countries.

I spent 2 months as a development intern in an NGO in Malaysia and 6 weeks as a development coach in AIESEC Iceland. Integrating myself intensively in Malaysia and Iceland have developed my intercultural competence and enabled me to experience what it means by “living like a local”.

As a person being highly transformed through the intensive global experience, I took up the leadership role in AIESEC in HONG KONG, determined to let more members to experience the power of exchange. From leading a small team as organizing committee president to leading an organisation of 600 members at Member Committee, it has truly challenged my understanding towards “leadership and management”. I believe “leading a team in achieving goals at the same time developing the team members into leaders” is the essence and the beauty of leadership in AIESEC.

I am on my way to learn more about leadership, management, and the world! Learning is an ongoing process. Life is too short to experience all, so let’s treasure our time!

Ken Chung, Director (Business Development)

Making a difference is something that I want to do since I was small. It is always easier to say than do. To truly make a difference, one needs to find his own passion and to work towards it with persistence. I believe passion can change a person, and then he can spread the impact and change the world. I have been finding my passion since the start of my university life. It was never an easy thing as there were so many things that you could do in university. At the end, I chose to join AIESEC that I thought it served as a platform to find my passion and explore my potential. I was an engineering student but I was never satisfied by just studying in the school. I wanted to challenge myself and push myself out of my comfort zone, which I believed it would help me to find my passion eventually. Therefore I took up different leadership positions in AIESEC. I was responsible to lead teams to form AIESEC partnership with companies and organisations. It was a bold move for me because I had never tried a leadership position working with

corporate partners. It was a challenge for me since it was the first time to lead two teams of total eight members. I made mistakes inevitably but I learnt a lot about leadership and management. Gradually I found my passion in sales and management. This motivated me to take up further challenge in AIESEC in order to develop myself to a greater extent. Therefore I ran for the Director (Business Development) of AIESEC in HONG KONG. This was even a bigger challenge for me since I had to lead and manage the whole AIESEC in HONG KONG in the External Relations area. Throughout the year, I gained the experience in generating large-scale partnership, organizing an international conference and coaching junior AIESEC members. It was very challenging but rewarding experience, which I managed to raise 200% more sponsorship for AIESEC than last session. Apart from leadership experience, working abroad was also one of the highlights of my AIESEC experience. I worked in a NGO in Romania for three months, and that has been life-changing experience to me. This experience has enabled me reflect my own values and culture. I am grateful to have this experience so that I can have stronger self-awareness. After five years of AIESEC experience, I gained a lot of skills such as networking and selling. It broadens my horizons and shows me new opportunities in life. I have become a more confident person who is willing to take up challenges. Most importantly, I have found my passion. A passion that will guide me through the ups and downs of life.

Youth potential is very powerful to the extend that it can affect a person’s attitude, ability, value, knowledge and even the whole life. That is the reason why I have joined different youth organisations in my early stages of life. Fortunately, I have met awesome people who have left footprint on my development path and demonstrate how to become young leaders in society.

I have joined AIESEC since 2006. I firstly worked in external relations area and had been an organizing committee member for a multi-cultural project with South-East Asians. After that I took up two years of Local Committee President experience to lead over 100 members in AIESEC in PolyU. That has been huge exposure for myself, especially the interaction with campus representatives and advisors. I was given the opportunity to represent Hong Kong to participate in international conferences in places such as India, Japan, Brazil and Malaysia.

AIESEC experience is like a marathon that requires passion, commitment, determination and persistence. The leadership roles are titles only and what I should remember are the lessons that I have learnt and skills and knowledge that I have equipped. I must be thankful to the challenges which have polished me to be a marble statue instead of a marble floor. After graduation, I decided to run for a leadership position in the heaquarter of AIESEC in HONG KONG.

As the Director (Global Talent Programme), my role was to lead six local committees to form corporate partnerships for creating overseas working experience and generating revenue. I delivered services contracted to a global renowned investment bank and sold new partnership to the world’s largest pharmaceutical company for building talent pipeline in Asia-Pacific region. I also packaged standardised products for marketing purpose. On top of that, I had the experience in recruiting, pre-screening and selecting local and international graduates. All these experiences have been challenging but also rewarding.

Taking up the leadership position of AIESEC in HONG KONG is one of my wisest decisions. I realise the importance of having track record from the position that a person holds. If not, the experience is meaningless since learning is merely a process while achievements measure the significance and impact. I cannot expect such exposure, network and intensive training that Member Committee experience offers elsewhere for a fresh graduate.

I am grateful towards AIESEC as a global youth organisation where provides an international platform to explore and develop leadership potential. I have developed myself to be a more capable and reliable young person. I am more ready to step into society as a confident Gen Y with can-do attitude. At the same time, I have also developed the younger generation who can make a difference in their university life and spread the impact to more AIESEC members.

Karman Cheung, Director (Global Talent Programme) “The beauty of AIESEC is to develop myself in the process of developing others.”

Three years of Bachelor degree plus one year of full-time leadership assignment in the headquarter of AIESEC HK – I feel like I have been working for four years instead of simply studying or learning. This experience gave me a chance to work closely with peoplefrom diverse faculties, universities, values, and even countries such as Kenya, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden and Germany.

Through taking up different leadership roles, I have constantly stretched myself to more challenges. The experience has constantly enabled me to discover things that I am good at, and also things that I do not know. Things that I have learnt from school are only a starting point; a great deal of knowledge was gained through emerging myself into books and interacting with people around, a great deal of skills were gained through applying those knowledge in my leadership

experience. I have developed my competencies including communication skills, management and leadership skills. I dare say I would not have gained so much without the attitude of proactive learning.

When it came to lead 500 members in AIESEC HK, I had very different leadership journey from the previous ones. In this year, I discovered that the position itself might have given me the power to manage, but definitely not the power to lead. To lead, you need to show your passion and vision; to lead, you need to engage people’s passion into the vision; to lead, you need to turn that vision into reality. What I enjoyed most from my leadership experience is the responsibility that came along when I led my team to turn our vision into reality.

I am no longer in the leadership position anymore, and another realisation reinforced - leadership, ultimately, is about one’s personality, values and passion. Integrity, commitment, authenticity, perseverance and proactive learning are the core values and personality that shape the person I am today, and are going to shape the person I will be tomorrow. I believe that these are the most precious gifts that I have got from AIESEC that enables me to be a better person to serve our community, serve our world.

From day one when I joined AIESEC and later on the decision of choosing to be the full-time Director in AIESEC in HONG KONG headquarter, I have been taking a very different career path from society norm, but I believe it is worth it. My next overseas AIESEC internship is going to be another turning point in my career. I really look forward to emerging myself in a more intensive global working environment.

Jan Yung, Director (Talent Management)

I am a person who always looks for learning opportunities. What I have done in AIESEC is to pass what I have learnt to my fellow AIESECers.

Being the Director of Finance at AIESEC in HONG KONG, I got the chance to lead a group of AIESECers. Among those there was a member who took up a finance position. Probably because of his background of not coming from a prestigious school, he felt gloomy about his life by then. I was at the right time to set goals with him before he went to Africa for exchange. We both agree that one can accomplish big if one works on his strength. A few months later, he came back from Africa, and he has completely changed to a person who is confident and good at communicating his ideas.

The little and many dialogues in AIESEC help AIESECers to find their goals and future. I am one of many AIESECers giving advice and sharing my thoughts to enlighten people. And what did AIESEC enlighten me? If I have not experienced the intensive AIESEC experience by taking up leadership positions and attending conferences, I would not have had the maturity to finish the goal setting for the member who was low in confidence said above.

Back then when I first joined AIESEC, I was full of passion to change the world, but I could not express myself effectively, not to mention being able to persuade a group of people to act. However, unlucky it may seem to be, being the Director of Finance, I was assigned to impose a new finance strategy which required very strong communication

skills as it affected the allocation of every one’s money. It was an experience that let me taste the clash between reality and dreams because people became resistant when talking about change. Throughout the process, I was given the chance to practise how to persuade people act towards a common vision.

Now I am confident to be able to express my vision effectively and able to inspire people to act towards it. AIESEC changes a person from a dreamer to a leader who can make vision become reality. It is because of the intensive tasks I need to perform and because of the AIESEC members who give me insight and feedback, I have become a person of maturity, and now I am ready to enlighten people around me.

Jeffrey Liu, Director (Finance and Legal Affairs)

Interning in Hong Kong for the last 8 months has been an absolute blast! Ultimate urban life surrounded by hilly landscapes, skyscrapers reflecting the sea, diversity, professional learning, east and west together, never-ending dynamism, and kind people everyone, all enclosed in this one place. Thanks to AIESEC I am a management intern at Pfizer, the world’s largest pharmaceutical company and I am involved in very exciting projects related to talent development, training, and corporate communication on a daily basis. From the moment I came across this internship post online, I knew Pfizer Hong Kong would be a first-class choice. My expectations were greatly

surpassed when I was saluted by such a motivating and enabling management style. Pfizer has given me unique chances to develop my management skills by contributing to meaningful projects that aim to advance wellness, prevention and treatments for a healthier world. On top of that, I have been engaged in core business plans working alongside the senior management team. How could one not feel valued and empowered?

My involvement with AIESEC back in Colombia greatly strengthened my ability to focus on stakeholders and it trained me to succeed in the selection process for my exchange. Now a lot of my friends outside AIESEC have come to understand the forceful nature of this hhzzhhgh - superior learning, international mobility, and an expanded professional spectrum

on the base of a massive network of young and sociable leaders in every corner of the planet. AIESEC has the power to activate fantastic progress and amazing life-changing events. During my exchange, quite a number of personal changes have taken place. My view of the world and my ambition are renovated. More and more alluring places have been added to my list of future destinations. I keep meeting extraordinary people, and my career aspirations and self-awareness levels are in constant escalation. AIESEC can do this and much more for you; if you allow it, unlimited explorations and never-ending expansion will uncover your true potential.

“In the 5th month of my internship, I was given the unique opportunity to present a core business plan in a meeting with the most prominent worldwide company leaders from the New York headquarters… how could one not feel valued and empowered?”

AIESEC offers me the opportunity to explore my life experience, and take part on an international internship which has changed my life in an amazing way. My AIESEC experience provides me a lot of opportunities to plan and implement projects independently. When working as team leader and project manager in AIESEC in Shanghai, I designed and successfully implemented plans which enabled other international nonprofit organisations to work with AIESEC. In addition, I have worked with proven cross-culture communication skills and team spirit. Generali has been one of the gratifying companies for me to work for. The Generali Group is a leading player in the global insurance and financial market.

Established in Trieste, Italy in 1831, today the group is one of Europe’s largest insurance providers and biggest life insurer. Generali has consolidated its position among the world’s leading insurance operators. With an employed sales force of more than 100,000 people serving 70 million clients in 68 countries, the group occupies a leadership position in Western Europe and an increasingly important place in Asia. The Generali Group has the size, financial strength, expertise, overseas presence and experienced employees to provide high quality service that our multinational clients expect and require. The experience I have gained from this internship is first of all to see and feel what it is like to work in

a real company and to have the responsibility for a project that can have major effects on the future of a company. I was given a relatively large amount of freedom and responsibility to decide how I would do the project - the directors just explained to me what results they wanted – and this was a challenge but also a boost of my confidence when the project ended up being successful. I enjoyed participating in this internship in through AIESEC. First of all, the internship was a good way to gain practical experience that many students lack today and businesses so highly demand. Secondly, and probably more importantly, I have been inspired to become an active part of AIESEC, and this is something I know will, and has already, changed my life.”

ERNEST IN UKRAINE: MY NEW LIFEIn 2009, the semester started with a hectic and tedious schedule. I found myself in a great need for a map and direction to prepare my future. With technical academic background, I had longed to do something interesting and challenging that could add value to my life. I decided to go abroad working on an internship on project coordination. To know how I live my life and what I want to be, I started a journey looking for my true self. I turned up to be in Ukraine as a Camp Project Intern. Farewell to my families and friends and taking my step out of my comfort zone, I started an internship with nothing related to technology. I know it is my life, my new life.

DUAL EXPERIENCE, SINGLE MESSAGEI worked with my teamsters in my vice-president term and other interns in my exchange internship tackle the projects they were passionate about. Working and living with them, I sawmyself possessed with energy and determination. We planned our project from the smallest detail; we hatched contingency plans. Then we executed; we poured our heart into what we are doing; we stayed up late, we worked through the academic burden. Nothing can stop us from achieving our vision. We are the master of our fate. We are the captain of our soul. SHARING IDEAS LIBERALLYThe best thing that I learn here is

sharing my ideas with others. It pushes me move people around and literally share ideas from different people. In AIESEC, I learn to pinpoint how people around me experience the world, and I really try to experience the same world they do.

The presence of so many members heading to different countries can be an asset to the city. That is the impact I believe in exchange as a returnee and as a leader in the exchange area. These members help make Hong Kong more vibrant and encourage all of us learn different cultures and perhaps see our own from a different perspective. In short, AIESEC encourages us to think how much better life is when we choose to look outward to the world rather than concentrate solely on our own business.

Bonjour, Ca Va? France is a country where you can like it like mad or live for a year like Merde. It is really a challenging experience going for AIESEC exchange, especially in France. It is an experience of having a whole new life by yourself in somewhere that you are totally unfamiliar with and getting through with international working experience; and the first time ever allowing me the experience of being culturally sensitive and adapting to the local culture by living there for a year. I am the Local Committee President of AIESEC in HKUST in Hong Kong a year ago, a member of Global Musketeer Team Member in the same session and have been to several international conferences when I worked as a National Support Team Member for the head office of AIESEC in HONG KONG. No matter how much we talked about cultural experience in conferences, meeting people of different countries, it is only AIESEC exchange that completes the AIESEC experience. I decided to take one year internship in Alcatel Lucent of France after graduation to experience

the internationalism of a global telecommunication company and to challenge how much I can achieve in the company after my experience in AIESEC.

There are a lot of interns in the company, but when it comes to hard work, team work and strategy work, the experiences I have in AIESEC provides me the confidence and experience to work harder, to work with mutually understanding and make the move, and even to work out a balance scorecard with the team.

My mentality is well-prepared. I worked as an operational marketing assistant that gave me the chance to utilize my academic knowledge on IT and fulfil my desire in business. It helped me to strengthen my mind towards the direction I have been heading to.

However, what I found the most precious thing is having myself developed the mindset to understand and live in a different culture. Looking back at the earlier stage that I complained and got frustrated about the strike, workers’ laziness and bad customer service in France, now I realised how I could understand their behaviour through their history and environment. That is what we call culture far beyond only the costume, architect and food.

Now I believe if even more people get through the cultural experience, it would help lessen unnecessary argument and strive for peace in the world as we learn to understand each other.

This place just loves to “seduce” you into having the feeling that you could “reach for your dream”, no matter whether you really do so in the way you expected. This is what I realise after three years of AIESEC as a member, then Local Committee President of AIESEC in CUHK, then an exchange participant in Ecuador.

AIESEC Experience is like a rollercoaster ride. My Local Committee President term was the toughest turn. Yet, despite the twists and turns, in the end I saw that I have accomplished something worthwhile - a lesson for life. I got the chance to meet a lot of people, like AIESEC members from other Local Committees and countries, externals and AIESEC alumni that could inspire you and place a mark on your life. Some encounters direct you to your dream, even though they seem “almost magical coincidence”. My exchange experience is an example.

In July and August 2009, I worked in a social entrepreneurship, ESSERE, in Ecuador. I knew before that the job was about tourism in Ecuador. Then my boss explained how we interns would be going around Ecuador, visiting its cultural sites, including one that National Geographic highly recognized before. Following the trail of National Geographic journalists, etc. I dreamt of being one of them when I was little. This was a feeling of dreams being so close by, which was amazing and motivating. There are no promises in AIESEC, disappointments probably more because a person’s attitude is the crucial factor. AIESEC led me to Ecuador, and experience a feeling that might not come again.

During the exchange, I had been touched in the heart by eople who had the spirit and determination to help the community in any way they could. Besides, it is more than voluntary work, but a smart sustainable strategy to the community in the long-run. Coming from a very money-oriented society like Hong Kong, where social entrepreneurship is still struggling to find its standing in society, I was very impressed by the projects of ESSERE, especially the concept of developing youngsters and fully enabling them to be potential entrepreneurs of the projects.

My working experience there has been one of the best in my life. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the Director in taking us all around Ecuador, my eyes were opened not only to the wonders of the country, its culture, people and amazing nature, but also to the social problems that also exist in many other countries. What I learnt most from are the few but existing examples of social tourism that address the problems, which I think other countries could replicate.

Exposure to the social entrepreneurships inspires me about the borderless scope of career paths one could develop and it might turn out to be an impact on my future endeavours. I just have to wait and see. Nevertheless, the immediate impact is a new family I got in this internship, two Ecuadorian parents, a Brazilian sister, a Polish sister and a Mexican brother.

Pfizer Corporation Hong Kong Ltd. (Pfizer) has been partnering with AIESEC in HONG KONG since 2008. Throughout the years, Pfizer has given AIESEC tremendous support in developing local and international talents. Finding its vision aligning with that of AIESEC, Pfizer has participated in AIESEC’s Global Talent Programme since 2008 and recruited interns from the U.S., the Philippines, Canada, Malaysia and Colombia. Apart from exchange partnership, Pfizer has also been the Learning Partner of AIESEC, participating in events including Winter National Conference 2008, Asia Pacific Symposium 2009 and Developing Leaders Day 2010. Pfizer representatives conducted leadership and motivation workshops for AIESEC members. On top of that, Pfizer has been the title sponsor of AIESEC National Leadership Awards for consecutively two years.

An interview was conducted with the Pifzer representative to understand more about the experience in cooperating with AIESEC and how the company perceives AIESEC talents. Q: What are the three most important criteria in recruiting in a fast growing organisation like Pfizer?

A: Imagine making a difference in quality of life for millions of individuals worldwide – this is what we do at Pfizer every day. With the commitment to advance wellness, prevention, treatments and cures, we count on individual who has passion in healthcare, who is knowledgeable and who processes a can-do attitude to work together with us in achieving such goal. Q: How do the current interns add value to Pfizer?

A: The current interns have demonstrated a strong sense of creativity and proactiveness at work. Apart from injecting new ideas to work, as they all come from different countries and culture, they have also enriched diversity in the office.

Q: How would you see the differences between AIESEC graduates and other graduates?

A: AIESEC graduates tend to demonstrate a sense of leadership. They are not afraid of taking charge on projects and coming up with new ideas. Besides, they are keen to speak up at meetings to express their opinion. With their diversified background, they are also able to provide more perspectives on different topics/issues. Q: What are the reasons for partnering with AIESEC for consecutive years?

A: The good experience we have with the current interns has reinforced our decision in continuing the partnership with AIESEC. Besides, we are also impressed by the professionalism of AIESEC’s committee members in the process. “I have a vision for Hong Kong, which is to be a Centre of Talents. I can see AIESEC members, as the future leaders, are passionate and committed to results.” said Mr. Stephen Leung, Country Manager of Pfizer Hong Kong.

AIESEC, as the international youth organisation, will continue to provide comprehensive opportunities to engage Pfizer for attracting, developing and retaining local and international talents in the coming years.

Developing Leaders Day

After years of AIESEC experience, it is time for AIESEC leaders to step out from their comfort zone and start another stage of journey. On 4th April 2010, AIESEC in HONG KONG held our first Developing Leaders Day to demonstrate how they can bring positive impact to society as individuals.

Developing Leaders Day was a one-day training for students who were in final year and recent graduates for preparing their future career with the advice from corporate and business leaders. This was useful to recapture and reinforce the learning of AIESEC members and show them the reality of the talent market in Hong Kong society.

Honourable guests such as Mr. Stephen Leung, Country Manager of Pfizer Corporation Hong Kong Ltd., Mr. Edwin Lee, Founder and CEO of Hong Kong Business Intermediary Co. Ltd. and Ms. Carola Masuch Chard, Director Creative Management and Career Consultants Ltd., were invited to share their views on how we should start our journey as an entrepreneur and how a Gen Y leader should behave in the workplace.

Leaders motivate others and get things done through people. According to Mr. Stephen Leung, to become a Gen Y leader, interpersonal skill is important. We need to gain a good diplomatic understanding and relationship with our peers, especially when people in the workplace are from different generations.

The Developing Leaders Day was a great success with around 100 members actively participating. AIESEC in HONG KONG will endeavour to put an emphasis on helping AIESEC leaders to head to the future and bring a positive impact to society.

National Conferences

AIESEC in HONG KONG has held three conferences this year for leaders and members. Each conference had a unique theme and objective, but in general, all the national conferences aimed to shape and communicate national strategic directions to the leaders of all local chapters, and equip them with important leadership attitude and competencies in leading this organisation as well as developing themselves to become better leaders.

There are key elements embedded in all these conferences: diversity, partner engagement and dynamic environment.

Diversity In order to broaden the worldview of our members, we always encourage them to emerge themselves in a diverse environment. Apart from the Internship Exchange programme that we offer, we also strive to create a more diverse environment in our conferences. On top of admitting delegates of different nationalities, we also invited experienced facilitators from all over the world to inspire our members, including facilitators from Ukraine, Poland, Malaysia, Switzerland, Kenya, Germany, The Philippines, Australia and Sri Lanka. Their perspectives and values have triggered a lot of heated discussion about leadership and world issues.

Partner Engagement We have a strong belief that our members have to capture more wisdom not only from foreign AIESEC members, but also from government officials as well as people in social and private sectors. Through exposing our members in different workshops and forums, they had the chance to understand more about the current situation and practices of different issues, such as the forum discussion about the future of Hong Kong with Ms. Audrey Yu, leadership workshops held by Pfizer Hong Kong and more.

Dynamic Environment Attitude is very important when it comes to leadership. In conferences, we stressed on proactive learning attitude and being more open-minded to listen to opposing perspectives. Instead of waiting for the facilitators to give them the “answers”, our members learned to find answers by themselves through discussing, sharing and finding practices inside and outside AIESEC.

AIESEC-New World GREENeration Y is a new sustainability project brought by AIESEC in HONG KONG and fully supported by New World Development Limited. The main focus is to inspire and empower the youth on green entrepreneurship and social projects in order to combat climate change. The project comprised of an international carbon-reduction competition, which started in early March, and the Global Youth Summit held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 1st - 4th June, 2010.

The international carbon-reduction competition was divided into two rounds, video making and proposal writing. For Round 1, we had a stunning response with 25 brilliant entries from participants in 13 countries, from which 6 were selected to advance to the second round. Round 2 entrants from Hong Kong, Mainland of China, India, Malaysia and The Philippines designed carbon reduction strategies for 6 local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as a part of the Low-carbon Office Operation Programme (LOOP) of World Wide Fund (WWF) in Hong Kong. After the competition, WWF in Hong Kong and Round 2 entrants refined their proposals and assisted the 6 SMEs in the execution of those strategies.

In the Global Youth Summit, 120 university students from 13 countries came to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and attended sessions offered by New World, CLP, KPMG, Coca-Cola, WWF, Business Environment Council, Climate Group, Make a Difference (MaD), Green Collar and Greennovate about green entrepreneurship and social projects. They will use the knowledge from the summit to start new initiatives in their home countries and spread the impact.

The Local Committee (LC) of AIESEC in CUHK was established 40 years ago. It celebrates its 40th anniversary with a series of exciting events this year. AIESEC in CUHK continued to work on the Social Entrepreneurship Project. Alumni who were social entrepreneurs were invited to share their experience on the field and how to make positive impact to society.

During the Christmas break, the LC organised a Christmas party which involved interns in Hong Kong as well as alumni. The winter break also served as a good time for the LC to organise the annual motivation camp with Mr. Paul Chan, the advisor of the LC from Dale Carnegie Training. The weather was freezing, yet, the experience was very unforgettable for everyone! The AIESEC Week was brought to a whole new scale this year as the organizing committee invited and cooperated with many of our stakeholders. Many advisors participated in the event, including Prof. Joseph Jao-yiu Sung, Vice-Chancellor-appointed of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, who has become one of the members in our Board of Advisors. The new session 2010-11 of AIESEC in CUHK will be led by John Li, who will be taking a second term in the leadership team for the LC. Best wishes are given to John and his team to make the LC prosperous and shining!

Established in 1967, AIESEC in HKU was the first Local Committee (LC) in Hong Kong. As a cradle of change agents, the LC has steadfastly nurtured young leaders throughout the years. As of today, the number of alumni in the LC has reached over 500, delivering positive impact to society directly and indirectly. KEY EVENTS Global Citizenship WeekAIESEC in HKU has organised the Global Citizenship and Social Service Week twice this year. The LC was honoured to be one of the participating organisations in the event, which aimed to promote global citizenship and encourage students to contribute to the betterment of human conditions. This demonstrated the school officials’ support towards the LC. Flexible Member RecruitmentFlexible member recruitment allows our organisation to provide more customized experiences to students from different years of study. By packaging short-taking team experience with exchange, we are able to increase the capacity of our LC in managing more life-changing experiences at the same time. Ripples International Conference 2010The third Ripples International Conference was held in January 2010. With the theme “Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability”, the conference brought together members from Mainland of China, Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey, Germany and Hong Kong, and engaged around 10 learning partners. Campus PositioningAs an international student-run organisation, the general student body is undoubtedly indispensable. This year we have implemented a brand audit to assess students’ perception towards AIESEC. Generally speaking, around 70% of the respondents have heard of AIESEC in campus and over 40% of the total respondents have shown interest in joining us.

-Victor Wong, President of AIESEC in HKU

LOCAL COMMITTEE PERFORMANCE The data reflect the LC has grown in size and generated more leadership roles in the past session, yet leaving huge room for improvement in terms of organisational efficiency.

*Performance calculated from data extracted for July 1, 2009 – June 21, 2010

Apart from the data below, certain areas deserve special attention: Introduction of Information Management DepartmentThis is the first year that the Information Management Department is introduced to the LC. As the pioneer, the team has introduced the knowledge management system, bettered the homepage of the LC, used various Web 2.0 tools in engaging stakeholders and created the online recruitment system, which certainly opened up a new glimpse for the LC.

Implementation of Management by Objectives an Career PlanningThe relatively wide implementation of the captioned initiatives has enabled members in the LC to be more certain of their purposes of contributing to the LC, though the depth of implementation of these initiatives certainly has room for improvement.

Exchange Product DevelopmentIntroduction of five Projects Based on Exchange (PBoXes) around issues of HIV/AIDS, poverty, corporate social responsibility, climate change and culture, have enhanced students and members’ interests in heading for internship exchanges. Preparation workshops equipped exchange participants with knowledge of social issues, though more careful planning of learning events needs to be implemented to adhere to human learning cycle.

Being the third LC in AIESEC in HONG KONG, AIESEC in HKBU has always been striving hard in providing and facilitating fruitful leadership and exchange experience for our members and leaders in the past 23 years. The vision of AIESEC in HKBU Session 2009-2010 is “Outshine with

Devotion.” We wish that our members can outshine in AIESEC, in campus and in society with strong devotion. Campus Positioning and RecognitionThe partnership between AIESEC in HKBU and School of Business in Hong Kong Baptist University is the highlight of this year. We have successfully raised five internships in this partnership. This is a marked recognition of AIESEC in HKBU. We have also successfully engaged the Head of Management Department in the School of Business at HKBU, as well as Mr. S.W. Lam, who is a Professional-In-Residence at the School of Business in HKBU. We are preparing for and ready for more engagement and partnerships with the school so that we can help facilitate and provide more international elements for the campus. New Leaders and New MembersThis concludes the challenges faced by AIESEC in HKBU Session 2009-10. All faces in this session are new, meaning that all members and leaders are all very green in this organisation. This makes the planning and execution processes much more difficult. However, we are new and dare to change, dare to dream and dare to try. With this belief, we work hard in providing all kinds of opportunities to our members so as to develop their leadership potential. We believe all of them will be further developed in the coming sessions to become successful leaders. Workshop on Leadership and ManagementIn November 2009, our honourable advisor, Mr. S.W. Lam, who was an experienced professional in human resource field conducted a workshop for our members

and leaders on the field of leadership and management. This interactive workshop enabled members and leaders to learn more about leadership and the concept of paradigm shift. Achievement in Session 2009-10We held AIESEC Festival in January to recruit new members and exchange participants. This campus event aroused more students and staff’s interests in knowing more about the values and work of AIESEC. This year we enabled our members to be more attached to AIESEC in HONG KONG by actively participating in national events such as national conferences, national elections, and some other roles in the national level. We sent out leaders to have overseas learning experience in Taiwan, to facilitate national conference in Bangladesh and exchange participants in Asia-Pacific region, Central and Eastern Europe and Africa. At the same time, we recruited overseas interns to work in Good Policy International Ltd. (Super-X Sportswear), Hong Kong Communication Art Centre and School of Business in HKBU. In total, we raised 13 internships to enable AIESEC interns from Mexico, Eygpt, Russia, Canada, Germany, U.K., U.S., Sweden to experience corporate environment in Hong Kong. Local Committee PerformanceThis year, we achieved not only in members’ development, but also in the exchange area. The growth is substantial and we hope that leaders in the next session will sustain and create more change agents with both leadership and exchange experience, which in turn, will create more positive impact to society.

Established in 1993, AIESEC in HKUST has already been making positive impact to all parties for 16 years. Even though we are not a Local Committee (LC) with long history, we have built up a very solid foundation, continuously providing opportunities to students in HKUST. AIESEC in HKUST has its uniqueness in having great alignment in the school vision of “with significant international impact and strong local commitment” while we believe we always contribute efforts in making this vision realised as an organisation in campus. With the aim of achieving internal positioning at school, we organised a school campaign called “You Lead the Impact”. We showcased our exchange stories, projects as well as how to connect to the external world for creating impact. Furthermore, we were

involved more than 10 external parties to participate in this campaign, especially in one of the highlight events which was the Business Ethics Forum. More than 100 students participated, discussing business ethics and globalization issues with our professors and experts whom we invited. Driving volumes of exchange experience and creating an international atmosphere have always been important elements in AIESEC in HKUST. With our encouragement to members in making good use of their long winter break, there were more than 15 students participating in the Winter Working Abroad Programme, having their adventurous experience in three different continents. Moreover, attending conferences is one of the important learning elements in AIESEC; while in AIESEC in HKUST, we support our members to enrich their AIESEC life by involving in conferences around the world. In total, our members have participated in six conferences of different areas in session 2009-2010.

In one organisation, it is very difficult to avoid problems such as team conflicts and risks in the events. However, when looking back to those trivial incidents, they have been great lessons for us, enriching and shaping our AIESEC experience to be unique and fruitful. They are the elements which make AIESEC members, as students, to be much more proactive, experienced and willing to strive for excellence.

AIESEC in PolyU was established in January 2005. "Achieve Glory" is the team statement of Session 2009-10. It represents our passion, commitment and determination to lead AIESEC in PolyU to sustain our achievement and have further glory this year. With the

engagement of our partners, we believe that AIESEC in PolyU will become the first choice of student-run organisation for activating leadership in our campus and every member will be transformed to become a real leader through their amazing AIESEC experience. ACHIEVEMENTS OF SESSION 2009 - 10 Campus PositioningThe engagement with PolyU is another highlight of the year. 7 TNs are raised in 3 departments in the campus. Besides, 6 TNs have been realised this session while another 3 TNs have been matched and to be realised in late July this year. In addition, PolyU also demonstrates the support on Outgoing Exchange side. A partnership called “Global Leadership Programme” has been established with the Industrial and System Engineering Department of Faculty of Engineering to raise 5 EPs to go for internship to enhance their leadership skills and cultural sensitivity. Advisor EngagementThis year, Prof. Timothy W. Tong, President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, has joined the Board of Advisors. With the invitation from our advisors, our Leadership Team members were able to involve in many valuable events which greatly contribute to their all-rounded development. Global VillageGlobal Village was a cultural activity which aimed to promote internationalisation and cultural diversity in the campus. Consuls, entrepreneurs and advisors were invited to officiate at the opening ceremony. In such occasion, students were encouraged to seize opportunities to go on exchange, develop an understanding of different culture and actively pursue lifelong development.

AIESEC-New World GREENeration Y ProjectAIESEC in PolyU fully supported and involved in the AIESEC-New World GREENeration Y Project which engaged over 150 university students from over 20 universities in Asia Pacific region. This project aimed to alarm global climate change and arouse student leaders’ awareness on sustainability issue. It was comprised with the International Carbon-reduction Competition started early in January and the Global Youth Summit held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 1 to 4 June 2010.

In 1997, Prof. Edward Chen, former President of Lingnan University, brought AIESEC into his campus for realizing Liberal Arts Education through AIESEC experience. He was an AIESEC member during his university life. Due to his real experience, he understands well how AIESEC experience can benefit Lingnan students, especially in the aspects of international exposure and leadership skills. Liberal Arts education emphasizes that students become visionary and capable people to serve society with their all-rounded competencies by receiving multi-dimensional development. In other words, AIESEC in Lingnan is a Local Committee (LC) which has strong alignment with the vision of the university.

This year, AIESEC in Lingnan has organised a BRIC project, for arousing students’ awareness on how emerging markets affect the world balance politically, socially and economically. We organised a BRIC Symposium in April 2010 with the involvement of a former WTO official, the government economist, business CEO, chamber representatives, university professors, exchange returnees, and most importantly, students from seven universities. The event had a huge success by encouraging students to go for exchange in BRIC countries, as well as gaining public recognition through media exposure.

AIESEC in Lingnan has been promoted to a brand new stage. We recorded a historically high growth in many aspects. For instance, 600% growth of TN raised, 200% growth of MTTN realised, 66% MTEP realised are under Global Exchange Programme, 150% growth of members joining international conference, 70% LC growth, etc. These achievements all belong to the leadership team and members’ efforts. We successfully get back our LC’s full membership status by over-achieving the LC criteria in 10 months. It is so glad to witness the LC which has created impact on our students. The growth in figures is a way to measure our impact. The impact behind the numbers represents many pieces of life-changing stories. It is believed that as ordinary people in the world, step by step, AIESEC members are doing extraordinary things to change the world. Putting passion into action can make our dreams come true.

Over the past 42 years. AIESECers from all generations and different universities in Hong Kong have dedicated their time, energy and passion in creating positive impact to the local and global community. Their efforts have helped to grow and shape the AIESEC in HONG KONG today.

Every AIESEC alumnus has unique AIESEC experience, be it eye-opening or challenging, heart-warming or intriguing. A group of enthusiastic alumni believe that many AIESECers who have left universities have long-awaited desire to get connected with their old friends and to contribute back to the Association with their post-AIESEC experience.

After months of preparation, the AIESEC Alumni Association of Hong Kong (AAAHK) was formed in 2009. AAAHK provides a platform to former AIESEC members and associates of all ages, backgrounds and experiences to interact, contribute to and actively gain from continuing involvement with AIESEC.

Our Vision & Missions

Facing the turbulence and uncertainties in our living environment, getting united with common values become more competitive and favourable for the well beings. An alumni association can serve as an effective platform for building interpersonal relationship, thereafter we can learn and help each other, thus doing more social good to the community. Alum

ni’s Stories

Being an AIESEC alumni for more than 30 years, I attended the AIESEC International Alumni conference for my first time in Kuala Lumpur at end August 2009. There were about 100 of us, from fresh graduates to old ghosts of over 60 years old, mostly from Asia and a few from other continents. The largest delegations were from of course Malaysia, followed by Singapore and Japan. Japan was particularly impressive as many of them are old AIESECers before my time.

Besides Kevin and Herbert that I know from AIESEC HK, I met Peter Tay from AIESEC Singapore whom we served AIESEC together during our university days. The formal programme were short and sweet, leaving ample time for mingling and of course heavy drinking. Each of us were asked to contribute a bottle of own choice at the evening beach party, there were still quite a bit of left over when I quitted the party at one in the morning. We also attended an AIESEC International award ceremony which is part of the AIESEC

Congress programme taken place at a near by hotel. AIESEC China Mainland got the most prestigious award for AIESEC project in 2009. I also met the AIESEC HK delegation over there. We had some discussions over how to support current AIESEC activities and business collaborations among AIESEC Alumni members. I am glad that I went as it was really a memorable and joyful weekend for me. I hope to see more AIESEC HK Alumni members to go together in the future alumni conferences. I have reactivated my AIESEC activities in the past two three years, starting with my support to establish AIESEC LC for Hunan University in 2008. In less than two years, I am really happy to see about 30 students from Hunan attended internships and social development programmes overseas. As I approach my retirement age, I hope to involve more with AIESEC which keeps me young at heart. Truly, once an AIESECer , always an AIESECer !

Last year I read an issue of Times Magazine looking at the various events 20 years ago in 1989. Fall down on Soviet Union, Berlin Wall, June 4th, birth of Internet... All of them appeared so vividly in front of me, not only these are world changing moments, they are life changing moments for an AIESECer like me. 1989 I was in Mexico attending International Presidents’ Meeting, I was so new to all these, couldn’t remember much about the meeting. But what is still left behind and became part of my DNA is the preference of being global, the behaviour of making changes everyday. That’s AIESEC.

During my six years experience in AIESEC, I made different choices to keep my journey going; my identity in this organisation had been changing from time to time for the choice I made. Looking back to the path I have taken, I am surprised and delighted that I really walked through all stages of “AIESEC Experience” – which was a strange phrase I heard when I first joined AIESEC. The Foot StepsI started my journey as a team member in Incoming Exchange team, and then continue my exchange fighter journey as an Incoming Exchange Controller in AIESEC in HKBU, and the National Exchange Partnership Manager of AIESEC in HONG KONG. After an intensive experience in Member Committee, I stepped up for the President of AIESEC in HONG KONG, and then discharged my position as president with a new identity as an exchange participant; flying to Belgium as an intern, coming back to Hong Kong as a returnee, and now trying to contribute what I learned as alumnus in AIESEC Alumni Association in Hong Kong. Working AbroadDuring the process of applying internship, I was looking at three things: they are challenging, diversity and uncertainty in the aspect of the job role, as well as working environment. I was prepared to have a breakthrough and walk out of my comfort zone. Eventually, I was being selected to take up the internship in DHL Express Europe CEO office to manage different projects, working in a team of six people with five nationalities.

At the end of my internship, the managers said they were proud to have an AIESEC intern in their office. Such great compliment is not only for me but those who put efforts to nurture me to become a successful young leader in AIESEC. Thank you. The SpiritAIESEC provided me a platform to make changes, starting to make a difference in my own life professionally and personally. AIESEC inspired me to think that everyone can make a change and be developed for the betterment; the idea leads me to find my career aspiration in training and coaching field. The job not only results in supporting my living financially but also helping others to reach a higher level in their lives. We make a living by what we get, but we make a

life by what we give.

My AIESEC Experience is completed, this belief lives in me.
