“ AIESEC is about creating a better version of ourselves.

01

President’sMessage

“AIESEC is about creating a better version of ourselves” This is what my leader told me when I took up my rst leadership role in AIESEC, and I believe it can best conclude my 5 years journey, and the journeys of thousands of others, for us to impact positively the society.

With an increased emphasis on its role to the world today, to the ever-changing environment and evolving challenges the new generation has to face, AIESEC has, within its global network, collectively made its stance to create almost one million experiences of youth leadership develop-ment by the end of 2015, to develop youth lead-ership with global and cultural awareness, which we believe to be the fundamental solution for future complicated and unpredictable challenges.

AIESEC has as well put itself in line with the World Economic Forum’s new model of leader-ship development, using exchange experiences as the driver, putting youth with risk-taking atti-tude into challenging environment with provided support to activate the outer journey of leader-ship development, which in turn activates the inner journey with learning from doing, reection and reinvention, and hence value generation in leadership development.

Session 2013 - 2014 is a year of acceleration and growth, with its signicance before the nal sprints of the global 5-year strategic plan,

to contribute in providing 50% more exchange opportunities to youth in Hong Kong. Through a united association with a strong will in having aligned vision, optimized process, collaborating partners and quality programmes, we are in hopes of achieving the ambition and further expanding our impact in the Hong Kong society.

I wish AIESEC a continued success, through youth leadership development, in allowing more youth to become a better version of themselves, and hence to create a better version of the society.”

CongratulatoryMessages

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate AIESEC in Hong Kong on publishing its Annual Report.

Young people are the future of our society. The HKSAR Government is committed to nurturing the next generation not only through conventional education, but also through diversitied learning, training and development opportunities that match their abilities, aspirations and education levels. In this regard, we have initiated a number of measures in our new academic structure to offer more opportunities and wider choices for our young people to experience diversed post-secondary education. Our ultimate goal is to instill positive values in our young people, enhance their competitiveness and culti-vate their interests in diverse elds so as to achieve whole-person development.

I commend AIESEC in Hong Kong for organising various programmes which enable our young people to explore and devel-op their leadership potential while making positive contribution to society.

Mr C.Y. LeungChief Executive

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the leadership team of AIESEC Hong Kong for another successful year that you have had. It is my pleasure to be invited as the Guest of Honour of your annual gala dinner this year, and I am delighted to take part in this joyous moment of yours again .

AIESEC Hong Kong has all along been dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders and breeding new talents for Hong Kong. Over the years, AIESEC Hong Kong has transformed the lives of many students, developing their social awareness and nurturing them into mature citizens with global mind. I am very impressed by your global exchange programmes, which place hundreds of Hong Kong students on overseas exchange to enhance the cross-cultural literacy among our youth.

I should also congratulate you for the fruition of the Youth to Sustainability Summit 2014. Those who participated have really investigated in detail some of the most pressing issues that Hong Kong is currently facing and provided plausible solutions for the community to further contemplate. While the presentations were divided into four areas - namely environment, economy, education and social needs, I notice that students were able to see the linkages across different issues and appreciate the intricacies involved. They demonstrated sound critical thinking skills through-out and analyzed contentious issues from multiple perspectives, with the support of logic and evidence.

May I wish you continued success in your future endeavours.

Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, SBS, JP Secretary for Education

04

Being the world’s largest student-run organisation with presence in more than 110 countries, AIESEC has always committed to promoting a global perspective among students and preparing them to make a positive impact in society. I had the privilege to serve on the National Team of AIESEC Hong Kong during my university days and the insight, experience, and skills acquired then had helped to shape my career as a public administrator.

Over the past 60 years or so, AIESEC Hong Kong has expanded its sphere of inuence from business students to students from different disciplines. It remains a very inuential student organisation offering students extensive experiences in areas of culture and business. Leadership Development Days, national and international conferenc-es, internship programmes, Team Experience and Global Exchange Programmes as well as various workshops and training programmes have continued to train up global-minded responsible and visionary future leaders. I am condent that AIESECers will nd the AIESEC experiences a most valuable asset they could leverage on in whatev-er paths they pursue. I wish AIESEC Hong Kong continued success in the years to come.

Mr Paul Tang Kwok-wai, JP Secretary for the Civil Service

Directors’ Words

Mr. Albert Lo Director of Talent Management

In AIESEC, all the leaders and members are eager to provide the best experiences to our internship providers and exchange participants. Throughout the process, our leaders and members are being challenged to develop their entrepreneurship and self-awareness. By working with the Global Network, we believe the leaders developed in AIESEC are competent to contribute to the dynamic and fast-changing world!

Ms. Cherry Yuen Director of Marketing & Communications and Global Exchange Programme

Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others. This is why leadership is relevant to youth. And I always believe that a leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fullled, they will say: we did it ourselves.

Ms. Yamen Cheung Director of Sales and Business Development

To see the unseen is important as a leader. Where are we heading to as an individual, a team or even an organization? This will set the foundation of everything, including our thinking, deci-sion, and action. Imagine one young man that don't know where they want to go in their life, they wander around and consume all their energy yet they are walking in a circle and never progress. It is disastrous for just one single person, however I invite you to imagine a hundred young men wander together, how would it be? A dogged willingness to pursue the vision determines how far we can go. It takes a leader all his courage and heart to walk towards the yet-to-realize-vision regardless of the challenges and risks. These are important for us to lead ourselves to our ideal state of life. Yet the capacity to empower other people to achieve it together with you it’s what we called inuence. These three important elements – vision, courage and inuence – are every single individual needs to live their best lives and at the same time helping others and the society to live their best lives. Indeed leadership is relevant to every single youth especially we are creating the future of the society and ourselves. Lastly, I would like to quote from famous leadership guru John C. Maxwell to sum this passage up. "Leaders are those who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way."

Mr. Tommy Wong Finance and Legal Administrations Responsible

Our society used to measure competitiveness of youths as the determinant of success. However, our youths seems more competent as individual but achieve less in the society. Competitiveness is not the only answer anymore as it was. Times are changing, so is the way we develop our youths. I believe leadership is at most relevant because it gives us vision - the very essence of leadership. Vision can lift a person to higher sights, raise a person's performance to a higher standard and build a person's personality beyond its limitations; it is not just about a person anymore, but what we can do as youths, together for the society, from how to see things better to make things better; from visionary to reality.

EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITIES

AIESEC takes pride in providing life-changing exchange experiences to young adults worldwide. AIESEC’s two exchange programmes offer participants with the unparalleled chance to develop themselves and discover the world at the same time. They act as an essential experience leading to students’ leadership development. Every year, thousands of students travel across the globe to experience life either as an intern or volunteer in another country. In the past year alone, AIESEC Hong Kong has sent over 450 university stu-dents and recent graduates overseas - a great growth from the past few years.

Global Community Development Programme (GCDP)

Participants of the Global Community Development Programme (GCDP), also known as the Global Citizen Programme, work towards a social issue in a foreign country for 6- 8 weeks. Participants are able to make cross-cultural positive impact. This exchange enables them to obtain a rst-hand understanding of the social issue, hence raising their awareness towards the possible solutions. Participants return with a stronger sense of social responsibility, which is an essential quality for today’s world. This exchange programme instills in the youth the mindset of a global citizen.

Global Internship Programme (GIP)

Participants of the Global Internship Programme (GIP) spend 2-18 months working as an intern at a start-up, NGO or corporation in a foreign country. While provid-ing companies with international talent, this program enables participants to develop professional skills. Practical work experience in a cross-cultural environ-ment, a requisite in today’s globalizing world, enhanc-es participants’ calibre. During the two exchange pro-grammes, participants live with exchange participants from other parts of the world. We believe that the invaluable multicultural experience makes participants more open-minded and mature.

Youth to Sustainability Summit is an annual internation-al conference organized by AIESEC in Hong Kong. It aims at gathering youth opinions and generating pragmatic ideas.

As the theme suggested, LeaderShift is a radical change from one way of thinking to another. It is a rev-olutionary transformation that our youth needs for nd-ing, recognizing and creating our future. The Summit also aims to pool in talents of the next generation in society to realize the quest of a positive change agent and take the lead to make an impact on our society.

With the belief that the youth are change agents of our society, this year the conference brings together over 350 young secondary school and university students from around Hong Kong and gives them the rare chance to discuss major global and local issues and generate innovative actionable ideas for the future.

The four-day conference facilitates the generation of

solutions by young, innovative minds for the 4 hot topics in Hong Kong:

Economic Sustainability: Optimising economic pros-pect

Education Sustainability: Changing education para-digm

Environment Sustainability: Living in a sustainable city

Social Sustainability: Facing social challenges

The Summit goes through four days of explorations, letting the delegates to nd, recognize and create their future. Participants leave the conference inspired, passionate and determined to make a positive impact for the Hong Kong society.

AIESEC-LC-CUHK was established in 1970. After 44 years…

In session 2013-2014, we aimed at gaining recognition in CUHK by providing high quality leadership experience to CUHK students, as well as our AIESEC members. Our mission is to develop change agents with leadership qualities. In order to achieve our goal, we had recruited 90 passionate members and 30 leaders in running this Local Chapter.

Session 2013-2014 was a session of consolida-tion and breakthrough. We have consolidated some great strategies from session 2012-2013, and put forward some new initiatives. This was the rst year that we opened the Global Community Development Programme (GCDP) to CUHK non-AIESECers, and created our own issue-based sub-product called GlobalMed. We held a 5-day AIESEC week, with events that were highly correlated with our exchange programmes and AIESEC values. We continued to hold the Fellowship In a Racially Diversied Society (FRDS) Conference in May, and impacted 70 Form 6 local secondary school students by sharing the values of living diversity and leadership with them. We also engaged more than 30 alumni and advisors

through interviews, our mentorship programme, various trainings, and mass transition events.

In our local chapter’s culture, we aim at recruiting youths that believe in developing their own leadership through developing others. We believe that working for a common goal is motivating and exciting. Fun and care are things that will boost performance and relieve stress, but they are not the goal that we strive for.

In short, session 2013-2014 was a key year for AIESEC-LC-CUHK’s outgoing and incoming exchange. We completed a more comprehensive exchange process, and as a result, boosted our exchange performance. On the performance of Outgoing GCDP, we recruited 90 Exchange Par-ticipants (EPs) (170% yoy growth), and expect to realize at least 60 EPs before 30 June (160% yoy growth). For Incoming Exchange Department, we have 22 traineeships (14 last year), and realized 6 of them (100% yoy growth). For Outgoing Global Internship Programme, we raised 15 EPs and realized 4 of them.

Election General Meeting, Apr 2014

Suitravel, Oct 2013

17

2013-2014 was a tremendous year to celebrate AIESEC-LC-HKBU’s 28th birthday. With the year marked with sweat and tears, our work has paid off with growth in every aspect in a steady pace. Over the years since the establishment in 1986, we have been creating unique team experiences for our members in this big family with self-discovery opportunities. Started with 109 members in Session 2013-2014, we aim to nurture our members to be the future leaders through a global learning environment, and build reputation in school and students by show-casing our impact-to-the-world.

The Conference Journey

More than half of our members went to national and international conferences separately one by one as different role. Their active participation as a national conference delegate thoroughly opened up their eyes towards the youth power and allowed them to under-stand their positions in the society; part of them took part as facilitators and assisted the next generation to become the leaders-to-be; and the rest of them ran for the organizing committee and carried on the momentum of AIESEC in Hong Kong. 14 of our mem-bers also attended international conferences held in Taiwan, Malaysia and the Philippines and brought a lot of insights back to the local community.

The Life-changing Journey

“This trip didn't fail me with an better understanding to foreign culture, as well as cultures bring along by other participants around the globe,” the experience of Mabel Tsang, one of our exchange participants went to Morocco, wisely proves the distinct perfor-mance of our exchange departments.

In the past session, we have created more than 60 overseas volunteering and global internship expe-riences that allow our students to an eye-opening journey with terric personal growth. Meanwhile, with their appealing cross-cultural experience, we believe

their global mindset has not only been downright developed, but has also brought a direct impact to the developing countries!

The Wanderlust

This year, in order to emphasize the impacts of travelling on personal growth and experience of cultural diversity, we organized events in campus to encourage HKBU students to take a step further and feel the world. Kicking start of the se-mester in October to wake up all HKBU students from summer holiday is the event named

“Suitravel”. Encouraging students to work overseas and experience cultural diversity, we have invited Mr. Francis Lee, a famous travel blogger to be one of our guest speakers and shared how his overseas working experience became his gateway to another version of the world. We also had Ms. Angel Ngai, one of the AIESEC members from HKBU who partook in the Global Internship Programme, shared her life-changing internship experience in Dubai. At last, more than 200 students were engaged in the open forum and left with the real meaning of working overseas.

Besides that, the annual event of AIESEC in HKBU, “AIESEC Week 2014” was held within campus in January. With diversied cultural performances and carnival in the most hustle-and-bustle area in campus, students came and had a bite of cultural diversity right next to their classrooms. Surrounded by music and dances, more than 3000 postcards written by 10 experienced travellers with their inspiring travelling stories, such as Mr. Chris Leung, one of the three nal-ists of “the Best Job in the World”, were distributed. Within the one week time, we are pleased to see how HKBU students to willing to take a journey outside their hometown in order to experience the culture shock.

Year of Establishment: 1992Mission: To be the rst choice platform in HKUST, we are recognized by nurturing globalminded change agents with self-awareness.

There was a big leap of improvement in exchange development, exchange quality and area expan-sion with the adequate human resources and external support. This year, over 430 students have attended the exchange recruitment talks and 80 of them experienced our quality AIESEC exchange.

With support from long-term 3TN takers, they empowered us to form the rst-ever MC-LC collaboration with AIESEC Malaysia to enhance the matching process as a pioneer.

1314 has indeed marked a new page of AIESEC-LCHKUST.” - Although we’ve gone through much hardships and challenges, we’ve successfully achieved the milestones we set: from PLC to LC, with more than 100% growth in our exchange products, bringing impacts to HKUST and nurturing more future leaders for this society

AIESEC in Lingnan

--

Induction Day, Oct 2013 20

Year of Establishment: 1997Mission: Through pursuing betterment and striving for performance, together, we transform,” the LC is constantly improving

AIESEC-LC-Lingnan was established in the year of 1997. In the past 17 years of existence, AIESEC-LC-Lingnan has been devoted in devel-oping globalminded young leaders in Lingnan University.

In the term of 2013-2014, we have grown to be an LC with 50 members working in 5 teams. Upholding the mission of "Through pursuing bet-terment and striving for performance, together, we transform,” the LC is constantly improving.

The year just passed has been a remarkable one for AIESEC-LC-Lingnan. To ensure the sustaina-ble growth of AIESEC-LC-Lingnan, the EB team of 1314 decide to focus on the building of a solid foundation yet at the same time bringing forth new initiatives.

To secure the long term development of AIESEC-LC-Lingnan, the team introduced and implemented a three year rolling plan, guiding the LC heading to a bigger scale. Operation Procedures has been standardized to increase the efciency as well as the transparency of the daily operation. By doing the things above, we were able to provide real quality experience to our customers.

We never stopped growing. In the term 1314, Incoming Exchange team has been growing massively comparing to last term. With clear di-rection and structured plan, the team managed to achieve 150% of growth in raising and 100% growth in realization.

With the foundation built in this term, we shall expect more in the upcoming year.

With the efforts of Outgoing Exchange team and the newly founded Marketing and Communi-cation team, mass program promotions and scaled recruitment talks had been carried out successfully. In November, a GIP recruitment talk with attendees of nearly a hundred was success-fully held. In march, a Sharing talk themed "Now or Never" managed to attract over a hundred at-tendees. Through the promotion booth, we were able to reach over two-thirds of the students on campus in promoting our exchange programs. In the end we received 22 application forms for GIP and over 50 application forms for GCDP. The team was able to achieve 260% in GCDP raising and 100% growth of GIP realization rate.

Although it hasn't been a smooth year, we fought our way through. This is denitely not the end but just a start for a LC full of potential.

Our Advisor

Young children are wonderfully condent in their own imaginations ... Most of us lose this condence as we grow up” - Sir Ken Robinson, TED Talk speaker on creativity.

…Fortunately, we have AIESEC in our college experience.

To face rapidly changing Hong Kong and the world, young people are required to take action and provide sustainable solutions for our own community. To achieve that, we probably need more creative and committed young people to devote their passion to the society.

AIESEC in Hong Kong is doing an excellent job in empowering young leaders by providing them leadership development experience. It provides them opportunities to critical decisions and putting their imagination into reality.

I feel proud of being involved in various initiatives organized by AIESEC in Hong Kong last year and in the past in the roles of advisor and program facilitator. It allows me to witness the passion, creativity and capability that every AIESECer carries.

Congratulations to AIESEC in Hong Kong 2014 and best wishes to 2015 team.

Mr Stanley Ng 2012 National President, JCI Hong Kong

“Having spent more than 30 years at Pzer in different conti-nents, I have learnt the importance of respect and diversity. People are undoubtedly the most valuable asset. Making Pzer Hong Kong as the Center of Talent is my dream, my passion.

Our fruitful partnership with AIESEC began in 2008 which has continued to grow from strength to strength. AIESEC have not only helped us locate many top talents from around the world but also ease off a lot of our work in visa application and on-boarding facilitation. I wish I had started collaborating with them sooner.”

Stephen Leung, Country Manager, Pzer Hong Kong

Now having been part of the Company for 3 years, Pzer denitely stand out with its people-driven culture and spirit compelling to young bright talent.”

Clara Ng, Associate Manager - Marketing Operations, Pzer Hong Kong

“Coming from Columbia, I started my career at Pzer Hong Kong as an AIESEC management trainee at the end of 2009. This ofce provided me with the best of both worlds: the thrill of working for a truly global and dynamic Company while also getting incredible exposure in a local ofce that is utterly com-mitted to developing talent. Carried on with values learnt from AIESEC, I am built with condence to take up leading roles at various tasks, exploring new initiatives and being committed to strive for excellence. The overall experience has set me a solid ground to advance in my current work and position.

Overall, I must say it has been an enjoyable and mutually bene-cial partnership with AIESEC Hong Kong who are capable, proactive and dependable. I would depict them as ELITE:

Intern’s Story

It been approximately 5 months since I began my internship at Pzer Hong Kong and I have not had a single regret moving over 5,000 miles away from my home country Kenya to begin this amazing journey.

Having worked with AIESEC for over 5 years I always knew I would conclude my AIESEC Experience with an Internship Abroad. It’s funny but during my entire leadership experience I would constantly tell fellow AIESEC colleagues how valuable an internship abroad was. However, you don’t really understand this until you actually go on exchange.

Hong Kong is actually my rst destination in the Asia Pacic region; I was denitely nervous and excited about this as well as being selected to join Pzer, one of the largest pharmaceu-ticals in the world, with its headquarters in New York. It was time to put into practice all I had learnt in AIESEC and College, into the corporate world and make a lasting impression.

Along with one other intern, we were selected to join the International Graduate Program that Pzer Hong Kong has been running for the past

7 years, in conjunction with AIESEC Hong Kong. One word I would use to describe the past 5 months so far is “Fullling”

I use the word fullling because during my day to day responsibilities I feel that my contribution

within Pzer Hong Kong ofce is valued and making a differ-ence. From my involvement in the everyday commercial aspect of the Pharmaceutical Business to building the culture within the organization I am having a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from present day Business leaders who are driving immense innovation, growth and results in the Pharmaceutical Industry.

Granted, there’s a lot of concern regarding how the Pharmaceutical Industry oper-ates. However, my internship is giving me the unique insight

of understanding the importance of Pzer’s role in bringing innovative treatments to its patients.

Finally, I am immensely grateful to both Pzer and AIESEC Hong Kong for this life changing opportunity and most of all to AIESEC Kenya where my journey began.

Our Alumni Story

I joined AIESEC HONG KONG in 1971 when I was a freshman at the University of Hong Kong, not really knowing what AIESEC was. There were only two local committees, one at HKU and the other at CUHK at the time. We all had

a very steep learning curve, most of us had to juggle between studies, making money and AIESEC. University life was too short then, only 3 years for most of us. Normally, one joined the National Committee (NC) i.e. the current Member Committee in the second year.

The summer of the year when I was the National Committee President, most of my Committee members, including myself, took on summer jobs and hence neglect-ed our AIESEC duties. I still remember vividly that the then Local Committee President from HKU, a very good friend, wrote me a very long and sincere letter about his concern of the state of affairs with the NC. This was a timely wake up call for me to pull ourselves together. I have never thanked him personally but his advice not only put the NC back on track but also served to remind me as to how a leader should behave. This is something I have cherished and beneted from throughout my career.

I had never gone further than Macao until AIESEC gave me my rst experience of ying. It widened my horizon, enabled me to meet people from all over the world and learn how to work with them, experience that one simply cannot gain through textbooks.

In an age without computers, e-mails and whatsapp, AIESEC was my window on the world. I went on a traineeship in Canada, attend-ed an international conference in Denmark and chaired an Asian Conference in Hong Kong. All these happened in three years but had prepared me for the career that I was to pursue.

My 38 years of public service had enabled me to visit all the ve continents, meet with people from different countries and walks of life. Notably, I was in London in the UK Parliament in 1984 when Hong Kong’s future was debated; I was in Atlanta, USA in 1996 when Hong Kong won the rst Olympic Gold Medal. I took all these and others in my stride, because AIESEC had given me a taste of “globalisation” even before this term becomes the norm.

The difference between what I learnt from university and AIESEC is: university teaches me lessons and then give me the test. AIESEC gives me the test and I learn the lessons.

A decade ago, back in 2004…I started my college life exactly 10 years ago, back in 2004, when I was 18.

Having been studying hard during my high school journey in order to secure the college entrance ticket to see the bigger world, I knew inside my heart that in college, my priorities would be different - by achieving academic excellence alone would not satisfy my huge curiosity about

the outside world. Instead of just getting good grades or outperforming my peers by some sort of “standard measurements”, I was really craving to feel, to breathe, to touch, to embrace, to experience a

life outside classroom that could enrich my life experience.

At the same time, I noticed a phenomenon: In one way or other, people in school were following some sort of trajectory which mainly consisted of “Dean List + academic exchange in tier 1 schools + banking/consulting career + 1st Honor, etc…” and whosoever not excelling according to the “trajectory” were judged upon or labelled as less smart or weird – as if every person was a product inside a big lter of a factory that automatically separated above-standard or sub-standard prod-ucts.

Strongly desiring to explore and understand the world and myself, I have decided to take the un-beaten path of following my heart instead of just trying to be like everyone else, and that started my almost-decade-long AIESEC journey.

The impact of AIESEC that has brought to me…Having spent my 5 years of undergraduate life (with 2 gap years in between) across +20 countries in Asia and Europe, taking various roles of projects and working with a truly global and diverse team, experiencing various new challenges by living in new cultures, having the opportunities to work with youth in one single room from 120 countries to discuss issues that really mattered for the world, I started to really have a deeper understanding about who I am and who I am not, what I am passionate about and what I am not, what I am aspired to make a difference and have a better clue about the world.

I am really thankful for everything that AIESEC has given me so far – this is place for anyone to try, to make mistakes, to learn, to unlearn, and to re-learn who they are and what they wanna achieve in their lives.

At the end of the day, life is short, don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Let’s all live a life that uniquely belong to us from today onwards.
