Mr. Jeff Hunt, PRESIDENT, OSEG SPORTS

Born and raised in Newfoundland, Jeff Hunt and his family moved to Ottawa in 1984 and were immediately immersed in Ottawa’s sports culture. They attended Ottawa 67’s and Ottawa Rough Riders games and Jeff was hooked on the “fan experience”.

During the 1990’s, after founding and growing his carpet cleaning business, Canway, into a 7-time Profit 100 business, Mr. Hunt purchased the Ottawa 67’s and set-out to grow their fan-base. The results were spectacular, largely because of a philosophy which will also be followed by OSEG’s CFL football and NASL soccer teams—deliver a fan experience that appeals to the whole family and connect with the community.

Mr. Hunt’s community connections extend to a range of Ottawa charities, schools and institutions, through the Ottawa 67’s Foundation and the team’s community outreach programs.

Dr. Jack Kitts, MD, FRCPS, MBA, President and CEO, The Ottawa Hospital

Dr. Jack Kitts received his medical degree from the University of Ottawa in 1980. After interning at the University of Toronto, he completed a three year tour as a medical officer in the Canadian Forces before returning to the University of Ottawa to complete specialty training in anesthesia in 1987. He completed his master’s degree in business administration in 2001 and was named President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital in February 2002. Dr. Kitts continues in that position to this day, managing a staff of 12,000.

The Ottawa Hospital is recognized as one of the largest and most important research and teaching hospitals in Canada. Its research institute is one of the foremost institutes in Canada, involving more than 1500 scientists, clinical investigators, trainees and staff.

Dr. Kitts’ inclusive, team-oriented strategic leadership, passion to ensure delivery of quality patient-centered care, and the development and mentoring of physician leaders, has been a central, unifying force in establishing and sustaining The Ottawa Hospital’s vision to provide each patient with the world-class care, exceptional service and compassion that we would want for our loved ones. Dr. Kitts is known nationally for his focus and expertise in patient experience, performance measurement and physician engagement; which make him a sought after advisor and inspirational speaker on these key topics in the healthcare today.

In addition to a BSc (University of Toronto) and a Masters Degree in Education (University of Western Ontario), Dr. Turnbull received his Doctorate in Medicine at Queen's University and later achieved specialty certification in Internal Medicine through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1982.

Dr. Turnbull has been the Vice Dean of Medical Education at the University of Ottawa (1996-2001), the President of the Medical Council of Canada (1998- 2001), the President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (2006-2007) and finally the President of the Canadian Medical Association (2010-2011).

Dr. Turnbull has pursued an interest in poverty and its effect on health nationally and internationally. He is one of the founders and is currently the Medical Director of Ottawa Inner City Health for the homeless which works to improve the health and access to health care for people who are chronically homeless. As well, he has been involved in education and health services initiatives to enhance community and institutional capacity and sustainable development in Bangladesh, Africa and the Balkans. In addition to being a specialist in Internal Medicine, Dr. Turnbull was the Department Chair of Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital and University of Ottawa from (2001-June 2008), a position he left to take on the role of Chief of Staff. He also served as Senior Medical Officer for Correction Services Canada (2011-2014). He recently took on the role of Chief, Clinical Quality for Health Quality Ontario. Dr. Wells received his medical school education and specialty training in Internal Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He then studied Hematology and completed a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology at McMaster University, concentrating on the special problems of venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins). He pioneered the concept of clinical prediction rules to assist in the diagnosis of patients with suspected deep vein thrombosis and/or pulmonary embolism. For each of these diseases he embodied these prediction rules in valuable algorithms now known as the “Wells Model for DVT” and the “Wells Model for PE”. They are currently used world-wide in the diagnostic process for these illnesses and are incorporated into many National and Organizational guidelines. He established the Thrombosis Treatment and Assessment Unit at The Ottawa Hospital, now the largest thrombosis clinical practice in the world. In March 2009, after 10 years as Division Chief in Hematology, he assumed the position of Chief/Chair of the Department of Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa.
