Tutoring • ELI Tutoring was rated at 2.13 in

‘10-’11.

• For last session (March/April) – 69.4% of the students gave an excellent/good

rating for their tutoring experience.

– Overall, 91 of 396 students claimed a good experience.

– 91 students (23%) thought the tutoring was about average, and 30 (7.6%) rated the experience as fair/poor.

– Average rating over the last 6 Sessions = 2.06



SALC

• For ‘10-’11, the SALC earned a 1.69. For ‘11-’12 the average is 1.62. Nice improvement here!

• The students’ opinion(data from last session):

– 52% say it is excellent

– 36% say it is good

– 9% rank it as average

– 2% gave it a fair

Staff and Administrative Help • The help given by administrators and office

staff received an overall average 1.89 for 2011-2012, nearly matching the 1.84 for the year prior. Keep up the good work all!



Admissions Process

The survey asks about the admission process – the information and help received before arriving here.

• Average for ‘10-’11 was 2.07, which was improved to 2.01 for ‘11-’12.

• The breakdown for last session: – 75% (290 of 387 students) rate the process in the

excellent and good categories.

– 17.6% (68 students) said it was average

– 7.4% (29 students) wish they had had a better admissions experience.



New Student Orientation • 380 students gave their opinion on everything

from help with housing, learning about how the program works, to introduction to the campus and community – 78% rated orientation as excellent or good – 17.4% said it was average – 4.6% (18 students) did not get the orientation they expected.

• Score over 6 sessions of ‘11-’12 = 1.99. • Fast and steady improvement from a score of 2.07 in ‘10 and 2.09 in ‘09.

ELI activities and trips

• In session IV12, ELI trips were rated at 1.84, whereas our activities were rated at 1.87.

– “Students like our trips a little better than they do our activities.” – famous quote from Zuba

– Average given for orientation trips and activities over the past 6 sessions = 1.9, compared to 1.85 score of the prior year.



ELI students mainly want more trips and activities!



Housing of ELI students

• Although we have only 56 beds in CET, 153 students gave their opinion about living there!

– 64% are having, or had when they lived there, an excellent or good time at the dorm

– 15% (23 students) prefer not to go back to the dorm

– The remaining 21% are enduring an average experience there.

– 73% said excellent/good

– 13% rated it as average

– 14% are not enthused by

the homestay experience.

• 159 reported living in Studio Green apartments:

– 52% are quite happy

– 22% rate it as average

• 144 students have opinions about the Host Family Program and ranked it at 1.89.

• ELI facilities earned a 1.94, a slight improvement from the 1.96 of the prior year.

Must be the long walk to 318 SoCo!

What Our Students Want (comments from the program evaluations)

• All classes in one building (no walking)

• All morning classes (but no lates counted for the first class)

• Unlimited printing at the SALC

• The ELI to have its own bus!

• No final grade requirements for CAP students

• Breakfast in bed served by smiling ELI teachers and tutors.



Recommendations/Goals (what we can do)

Continue to maintain focus on improving the academic aspects of the program by supporting teachers, tutors, and Tutoring, SALC, and Listening Labs coordinators.

Revamp and expand New Student Orientation, including pre-arrival and continuing throughout the students’ first session.

Develop ongoing orientation seminars and integration opportunities to the campus and community to be offered to continuing students.

Continue to enhance our client-centered focus in all areas of program.
