IntroductionMarzano Research is a woman-owned small business dedicated to working with educators and system leaders to learn, evolve, and thrive. We provide practitioner-centered, evidence-informed research and technical assistance to attend to your pressing priorities, unique context, and existing capacities.
Founded in 2008, Marzano Research became a wholly woman-owned small
business in 2019 under the leadership of new owners Danette Parsley, Jennifer
Norford, and Joy Bell.

Triple Bottom Line: PeopleWe established a People Committee thatconducted a staff survey to determine people priorities and organized two company events to foster community and culture.
We enhanced company benefits for staff to include a more flexible PTO policy and equitable health insurance plans.

Triple Bottom Line: People We shifted work to a virtual environment while
ensuring we worked with clients to o maintain high levels of communication,
timeliness, and work quality; ando alter project scope and timelines, as
necessary.
We generated resources to support stakeholders during the pandemic, includingo the Friends and Family Blog Series; ando FAQ documents, resource memos, and web
chats for teaching and learning during a pandemic.

new company, with a new logo and website; and
o generate clear and consistent messaging about who we are and what we do.

Triple Bottom Line: People
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI)We engaged a DEI consultant to help us identify organizational priorities for strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion in company systems, policies, and procedures. We started the process with a cultural assessment designed to create a snapshot of the company’s culture, practices, and policies.
We made a public commitment to take action to eliminate racism, discrimination, and inequity.
We discussed DEI issues in our hiring processes with hiring managers.
We hired an alumnus from the American Evaluation Association’s Graduate Education Diversity Internship Program as an evaluation consultant.
We supported staff-led book study discussions on issues of race.

Triple Bottom Line: People Performance Development
We established a supervisor learning community to support managers in serving as leaders in the company and to ensure staff receive common and coherent messages.
We generated common understandings about what high performance looks like for individuals in the company.
We reviewed and discussed frameworks and models for performance management as an initial step toward creating a company solution.

Triple Bottom Line: PlanetWe established a Planet Committee that conducted a staff survey to determine planet priorities and organized a volunteer event to pick up trash at a park.
We reduced work-related travel and conducted a staff survey to gather input on which type of meetings work well virtually to inform our decisions about how we can reduce travel moving forward.
We implemented paperless systems for benefits enrollment, timesheets, payroll, and other operations.

Triple Bottom Line: Profit We use sound and deliberate business practices to
foster profit and growth. Company leaders use dashboards to review, discuss, and monitor progress against budgets and metrics.
We are transparent with staff and engage them in strategic direction development and implementation. We provide all staff with regular updates ono company financials, health, and stability; ando business development efforts.
We engaged all staff in developing company strategic priorities, priority practice areas, and regional market intelligence.

Looking AheadWe will work with the People and Planet Committees to identify priorities for staff and the community.
We will continue with the next phase of the company Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative.
We will work with managers to build out our performance development model.
We will create a sustainability policy and statement.
