STAGE NOTESCompletion of the Vision for the Embassy renovation project

was the highlight of our 2015-16 year. New spaces that included

a two-story ballroom and rooftop patio, new classrooms,

dressing rooms, offices and bars were opened in March 2016

with great regional attention and many event bookings.

Fundraising began in mid-2012 and construction began in May

2014. This historic renovation has expanded Embassy staff,

revenues and overall capacity to serve regional audiences. In addition, the

Embassy was the first organization to receive final funds from Regional Cities,

which means the organization has no long-term debt. And we celebrated with

nearly 4,000 visitors at open houses and a first-ever gala and concert that

raised $121,000 for the organization.

Programming, operations and governance matters also remained strong during

heavy construction times. The Embassy offered Summer Nights at the Embassy,

which drew more than 2,500 in 16 weeks to enjoy the new ballroom and rooftop

spaces while seeing a wide variety of area artist performances. The organization

updated its bylaws and articles of incorporation and added new staff, full- and

part-time, in order to handle programming growth. In addition to the Vision

project, a new theater chiller was installed and facility improvements were made

as funding and opportunity allowed.

This was a milestone year for the Embassy! Thank you for your support and

passion! We will continue to take advantage of this important marker in our

history by using this past year as a springboard to growth and opportunities for

further economic development, arts and culture and historic preservation.

SCORE! A MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP

In 2016, the Embassy Theatre Foundation completed renovation of the Indiana

Hotel. In addition to new dressing rooms and expanded concession/bars for

the theater, new spaces became available including a two-story ballroom

and rooftop patio, classroom and conference space, mezzanine lounge and

administrative offices. Through all this construction, the Embassy continues its

history of maintaining a strong financial position. The year ended August 31,

2016, with total revenue of $4,724,084 and marked the 11th consecutive year

in the black. The Embassy retains strong cash reserves as well as an additional

$814,745 in investments; this is down from the previous year as investments

were used to lower the debt – and in October 2016, the Embassy was debt free!

Operations revenue grew as revenue sources increased from the prior year.

Another strong season and show schedule resulted in significant growth in

special events, rentals, higher attendance/restoration fees and concession/

bar/catering sales. A significant portion of the increased revenue is due to the

expanded venue space available. In addition to being a popular wedding venue,

the Embassy expanded its programming, using the new ballroom and rooftop

patio for its Summer Nights at the Embassy. The Embassy also hosted four

open houses and capped off the renovation with a gala fundraiser and concert

featuring The Avett Brothers. More patrons are engaged in the Embassy and its

mission as membership increased 7 percent from 2015.

The Embassy continues to maintain a diversified portfolio for investment

accounts. During the fiscal year, a net realized gain on investments of $36,576

and a net unrealized loss on investments of $41,207 were recorded. The

Embassy also earned interest and dividend income of $65,623 this year.

With continued strong leadership, generous patrons, growth opportunities and

increased rentable venue space, the future of the Embassy shines bright.

MARQUEE SOCIETYAction and perseverance saved the Embassy Theatre

from the wrecking ball in 1972. Our community joined

together to reclaim and preserve this civic jewel.

Today, efforts by those who love the Embassy continue

to provide their generous support.

To continue this preservation effort, the Embassy

has formed the MARQUEE SOCIETY to honor and

memorialize those who are committed to

supporting the Embassy through planned estate gifts.

These planned gifts include: bequests of cash, stock,

life insurance, retirement plan assets, charitable

trusts and charitable gift annuities.

Planned gifts benefit the Embassy by providing

a stream of income that will help in the preservation of this

cultural treasure for future generations. Properly arranged,

gifts to the Embassy Theatre Foundation, Inc. may reduce

income and estate taxes while ensuring the donor

is memorialized in the Embassy’s history.

Congratulations to Robert Nickerson, Ellsworth Smith and Bill Zabel! The

Embassy’s founders won the Arts United 2016 Arts Advocate Award. These

three engineers were integral in saving the Grande Page Pipe Organ and the

Embassy Theatre, and they continue to share their knowledge, time and treasure

to keep the Embassy as a beacon for arts and culture in northeast Indiana.
