1st GBM &INSTALLATION CEREMONY
11.01.2018
IMA Ludhiana held 1st GBM (General body meeting) of the year 2019 at IMA House.
Dr. P. S. Jassal took over as president IMA Ludhiana for the year 2019, along with Dr. Jassal, Dr. S. S. Sibia joined as senior vice president & Dr. Pawan Dhingra as vice president. Dr. P. S. Jassal appointed Dr. Bimal Kanish, as Hony. Secretary of IMA, Dr. Amanpreet S. Arora as finance secretary & Dr. Neeraj Aggarwal as joint secretary. Outgoing president, Dr. Arun Gupta apprised the member about the activities of his team during the year 2018. He informed the house that IMA Ludhiana is the 2nd biggest branch of Punjab and 84 new members were enrolled during the year 2018 which is a record. Dr. Manoj K Sobti, past president IMA Punjab & member Punjab Medical Council welcomed the new team. Dr. P. S. Jassal in his inaugural address exhorted the members to attend IMA meetings in large number & assured them all help in times of need.
IMA Ludhiana celebrated 70th Republic Day at IMA house Ludhiana. About 100
doctors attended the function Dr Sandeep Sharma, Professor and Head of Urology
Department and Medical Superindent DayaNanad Medical College and Hospital was
the chief Guest. Dr. Bimal Kanish, Honorary Secretary IMA Ludhiana welcomed the
chief Guest. Dr. Sandeep Sharma paid tributes to the martyrs of India and advised and
encouraged the doctors to follow the ethical principles while treating the patients. Dr.
Rajiv Grover and Dr. Amrinder singh sang the patriotic songs. Both the doctors were
honored by Dr. Sobti, Dr. Sandeep Sharma and whole IMA team. Dr. P S Jassal,
President IMA passed vote of thanks and encouraged everyone to pay tributes to the
martyrs daily not only on Republic Day or Independence Day by being aware about
the rights and duties.
The other prominent doctors present were Ex principal of Dayanand Medical College
Dr. Daljit Singh, Ex medical Superindent Dr. Balbir Sing Shah of DMC Ludhiana, Dr Rajiv
Gupta, Dr M S Sethi, Dr.Karamvir Goyal, Dr. Saroj Aggarwal, Dr. Sunil Aggarwal, Dr.
Amanpreet Singh Arora, Dr. D P Singh Arora, Dr. Avinash Jindal, and Dr. Pritpal Singh

WORLD LEPROSY DAY
30-01-2019
IMA Ludhiana observed World Leprosy Day on 30-1-2019 (Wednesday) at Islam Ganj
Kushth Ashram (Leprosy Colony).
A Team of IMA Ludhiana doctors comprising of Dr. P S Jassal President IMA
Ludhiana, Dr. Bimal Kanish Honorary Secretary and Dr. Arun Gupta IMM. Past
President IMA Ludhiana, met the patients and distributed Fruits, Biscuits,& Clothes
among the Leprosy patients.
Dr. P S Jassal informed that IMA Ludhiana observes World Leprosy Day every year in
Islam Ganj Kushth Ashram (Leprosy Colony).
Dr. Bimal Kanish , While speaking on the occasion said “ This year we are calling for
government & authorities to dedicate more resources to Leprosy research to support
this vastly - funded area”. This day is chosen in the Memory of Mahatma Gandhi, who
took keen interest in Leprosy patients and worked all his life to improve the plight of
people afflicted with this dreaded disease.
Prevention of Diseases 11-02-2019
IMA Ludhiana has launched a drive to sensitize the common man about the
prevention of various diseases by holding talks in the schools, pasting flex
banners, distributing the pamphlets through news papers. In its first leg,
IMA Ludhiana pasted flex banners depicting the various aspects of Swine
Flu in various schools on 11.2.2019, IMA distributed pamphlets through
news papers of Ludhiana describing the prevention of cancer. According to
Dr. P S Jassal, President and Dr. Bimal Kanish, Honorary secretary, this drive
will be observed on all the National Days and it will help the common man
in understanding the various aspects of prevention of diseases.
GBM & IWD

IMA LUDHIANA Organized a GBM & International women‟s Day. Dr.
Renu Chhatwal was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Dr. M K Sobti, Dr.
Arun Gupta, Dr. Karamvir Goyal, Dr. Pritpal Singh, Dr. S S Sibia and IMA
Woman Wing welcomed the chief guest other present on occasion were
Dr. Kum kum Avasthi, Dr. Promilla Jindal, Dr. Chanchal Gupta, Dr.
Vaneeta Malhotra, Dr. Reena Sandhu, Dr. Satinder Kaur Dua, Dr. Mrs. B.K
Gill and others.
IMA marks World Autism Day
17 - 4 -2019
The Indian Medical Association, Ludhiana celebrated the World Autism
Awareness Month with an awareness session on various aspects of Autism.
Professionals from various fields of medicine, therapists as well as parents
of children with autism participated in the interactive CME. Dr. PS Jassal,
President of IMA, Ludhiana welcomed the 85 participants and said that
IMA wanted to make sure every doctor was aware of autism and special
care needs of children with autism and their parents. Dr. Neelam Sodhi,
Director of Ashirwad, The North India Cerebral Palsy Association, who co-
ordinated the CME welcomed the initiative taken by IMA. Members of the
Ludhiana Academy of Pediatrics as well as doctors from CMC and DMC also
participated in the event.
Parents of children with autism also participated in the event and shared
their experiences in seeking help in diagnosis and care and highlighted the
need for organized care in Punjab.
The event ended with Ashutosh Khosla, playing the National Anthem, while
the participants sang their hearts out. Dr. Bimal Kanish, Secretary of IMA
along with Dr Jassal and other eminent physicians of the city thanked the
audience and lauded Ashutosh for his flawless performance. Ashutosh is a
role model with autism.
C M E ON FOETAL GENETICS
22 -05-2019
IMA Ludhiana in association with SPS Hospital Ludhiana organized a highly
successful CME on foetal genetics. It was attended by more than 100 doctors from
Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
CME on Cardiology
24-05-2019
A CME was organized by IMA Ludhiana (Indian Medical Association Ludhiana) on
24th May 2019.
Topic was “CARDIOLOGY”.
Dr. Nagendra Singh Chauhan from Medanta, the Medicity, Gurgaon, spoke on Recent Advances on Valvular Diseases.
IMA Punjab State Meet

Today on 16Th June, 2019, a meeting of Punjab State IMA was held at State IMA House Ludhiana to condemn the violence against their peers in west Bengal
The Meeting was chaired by president IMA Punjab Dr. Yogeshwar Sood and organized by State joint Secretary Dr. Deepak Parasher
Dr. Sood said that violence in any form verbal or physical is not acceptable and IMA has a zero tolerance against it
He openly condemned the way, violence against resident doctors in west Bengal, was tackled. It is highly deplorable the way they were threatened to join back the duty despite the fact that no action was taken against the culprits
In this meeting, Dr. K D Arora Secretary State IMA said that all 66 branches of IMA Punjab will shut down Non Essential services in the hospital from 6:00 Am 17Th June 2019 to 6:00 Am 18th June 2019. Only Emergency Cases will be attended.
Present on this Occasion were Dr. Navjot S Dhaiya, President Elect., Dr. Jatinder Kansal Immediate. Past President, Dr. Manider Bhasin and Dr. Ranjit Rai, Vice Presidents and Dr. G S Gill Member erstwhile MCI.
IMA Ludhiana Strike Day

IMA Ludhiana observed a complete medical bandh on the call given by National IMA,
About 500 doctors from various clinics, hospitals and nursing homes attended this
meeting.
Dr. P S Jassal, President IMA Ludhiana welcomed the delegates and expressed his
Anguish over rising incidents of violence against doctors and Medicare personnel.
Dr. Bimal Kanish, Hon. Secretary IMA Ludhiana urged the government to take urgent
measures to curve the incidents of violence against doctors, He was of the opinion
that in the prevailing atmosphere doctors are shying away from taking up critical
patient and complicated cases, this is a lost to the society
Dr. Manoj Sobti, Past President State IMA, warned the government that enough is
enough, in future doctors will not take this violence laying down
National IMA has also advocated the policy of zero tolerance to violence against
doctors, there was undercurrent of fear and anguish among the doctors. After
completing the meeting in IMA hall, Doctors dispersed and reassembled at Ferozpur
road outside friend’s regency hotel, from there a peaceful March was taken out to
Bharat Nagar chowk Ludhiana and back.
There was total shutdown of opd and non essential medical services in all the
hospitals of the city including DMC, CMC, Oswal, SPS and G T B hospital, all nursing
homes and clinics also remained shut
Medical Bandh was also supported by Indian dental association and all dental clinics
were closed for the day, PCMS association, LOGS, IADBL, Radiologist, ISA and EYE
specialist association participated in Bandh
Dr. William Bhatti, Director CMC attended this meeting, Sh. Prem Chand Gupta
Secretary DMC Management came personally to assure the doctors of support

C.M.E ON COLORECTAL, HEAD AND NECK SURGERY

A CME was organized by IMA Ludhiana (Indian Medical Association Ludhiana) on
05th June 2019.
Topic was “COLORECTALL HEAD „S NECK SURGERY”.
LIVER TRANSPLANT SYMPOSIUM

IMA Ludhiana and Aykai Hospital organized a symposium on Liver Transplant. Dr.
Yogesh Chawla former director PGI inaugurated the symposium and delivered key
note address. Around 125 delegates from various parts of country celebrated on the
latest advances in liver transplant.
Celebrated Vanmahotsav

IMA Ludhiana celebrated Vanmahotsav on 12-07-2019 (Friday) at IMA House.
Around 100 doctors of the city gathered in IMA hall and planted trees on the front
lawn of the IMA House
Dr. P S Jassal, President IMA Ludhiana under lined the importance of tree plantation
for the coming generations, He informed the gathering that trees play an important
role in enhancing the quality of life and urban environment.
Dr. Bimal Kanish, Hon. Secretary IMA Ludhiana said trees reduce the green house
effect by removing carbon dioxide from the air and releasing oxygen.
CELEBRATED 73RD INDEPENDENCE DAY

IMA Ludhiana celebrated 73rd Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic
fervor, Dr. P S Jassal, president IMA welcomed the Chief guest Dr. Balbir Singh Shah.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Balbir Singh Shah recounted the sacrifices made by our
forefathers he said freedom has been won with great difficulty he also emphasized
that medical professionals should do their duty sincerely.
Dr Shah along with Dr. P S Jassal, Dr. Manoj K Sobti and Dr. Arun Gupta released a
public education leaflet highlighting salient point for prevention from dengue fever,
Dr. Amrinder Singh sang a patriotic song.
Dr.Bimal Kanish Honorary secretary IMA Ludhiana paid rich tributes to the freedom
fighter, who sacrificed their lives for the freedom.
Present on the occasion were Dr. Karamvir Goyal, Dr. Pritpal Singh, Dr. Kulwant Singh,
Dr. Ajit S Chawla, Dr. Harish Prabha Kanish, Dr. Neena Chawla, Dr. Manju Gupta, Dr.
Sunita among others.
CME ON ONCOLOGY

Indian Medical Association Ludhiana organized CME on newer techniques in diagnosing various type of cancer Shri Bharat Bhushan Ashu cabinet minister department of food and civil supply was the Chief Guest inaugurated the CME by formally lightning the ceremonial lamp Shri Bharat Bhushan Ashu ji was accompanied by Shri Raman Subramaniam chairman Ludhiana improvement trust, Shri K K Bawa chairman PSIDC and Shri Ashwani Sharma president district Congress committee Dr. Manoj sobti member PMC welcomed the chief guest and apprised him of the problems faced by medical community. Ashuji assured the doctors all possible help particularly regarding parking issue problem and nursing homes located in residential areas. He also announced a grant of rupees 5 Lacs to IMA Ludhiana for installing a generator in IMA house. Dr. Navdeep Singh of SPS hospital made the audience aware about the tips and tricks to detect cancer. Dr. Gurpreet Singh of SPS hospital demonstrated latest endoscopic techniques for detecting tumors of air pathways and lungs. INVESTOR AWARENESS PROGRAMME
IMA in association with Karvy stock broking ltd. organized investor awareness
program. It was attended by about 50 doctors.
CME ON NEUROLOGY
11-09-2019
IMA Ludhiana organized a C.M.E on the management of stroke. Dr Rajesh Bagga, Civil Surgeon Ludhiana was the chief guest of the event, He was accompanied by Dr. Balwinder Singh, ACS and Dr SP Singh, DFPO. Dr. Manoj Sobti member, Punjab Medical Council welcomed the chief guest on behalf of IMA Ludhiana. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rajesh Bagga appreciated the efforts of IMA Ludhiana in organizing the CME to update its members. He urged the members to participate in various national programs like RNCTP and PCPNDT. He also assured the members that district health administration will help the doctors in time of need. Dr. Jeyraj Pandian, Head of Neurology Department CMC hospital, Ludhiana discussed various modalities of stroke management. He stressed upon the early initiation of thrombolytic therapy with in four & half hour. Dr. Anirudh Kulkarni, Assistant Professor Neurology Department CMC hospital, Ludhiana discussed the latest advances in the management of stroke with endovascular technique. Dr. Navdeep Singh SPS hospital gave tips on early detection of cancer. Dr. P S Jassal, President IMA Ludhiana thanked civil surgeon Ludhiana and the speakers. Dr. Bimal Kanish, Honorary secretary IMA Ludhiana conducted the preceding and appreciated the efforts of district health administration and CMC faculty in the smooth conduct of the proceedings. IMA HALL RENOVATION
State IMA bhawan located at BRS Nagar Ludhiana was renovated with funds from
Ludhiana IMA. It cost us around 2.20 lacs
Public Awareness Pamphlets Distribution
Public awareness pamphlets on prevention of Tuberculosis/ Dengue fever, Hepatitis
and Cancer were distributed through newspaper inserts.
