ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are off to a good start in our efforts to Support ECHO During June.

(See today’s “most needed” list insert.) ECHO has two big food drives a

year, one in November and one in May, and last month’s drive collected

21,857 pounds of food. That is a lot of food, but in its last fiscal year,

ECHO gave out an average of 17,500 pounds of food each month. To fill

the gaps between the big drives, ECHO depends on the community’s

individual and group donations. June is Westwood’s month to help out.

Please donate as many items as you can.

Impact Training continues with session #2 today, followed by final

session #3 on June 26, both at 4:30-5:45 p.m. Both sessions are mandatory

for students travelling to Wise, VA for Impact 2016. Excused absences

must be arranged in advance with Tom Kern.

Child Protection Training—All volunteers who work with children and

youth who DID NOT TRAIN in 2015 must attend one training session this

year. Check the list at the Welcome Center to find out whether you need to

take a CPT class this year. Training will be held on Tuesday, June 21 at

9:30 a.m.; and Sunday, June 26 at 9:45 a.m.

Children and families are invited for Popsicles on the Playground this

Tuesday, June 14 at 6:45 p.m. Join the fun!

Youth will meet at Westwood at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 24, for a day at

KingsFest at Kings Dominion. Bring a friend! The cost is $25 (for

admission to the park and the concert) plus money for food and snacks.

Sign up at the Welcome Center or at SNL! Payment and permission slips

must be turned in no later than Sunday, June 19.

The first of our Summer Book Conversations will be a discussion of the

book Half Truths: God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Other

Things the Bible Doesn’t Say by Adam Hamilton, on Tuesday, June 21.

Join us from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Music Suite as we look at common

Christian-sounding clichés and compare them to the truth that is found in

the message and ministry of Jesus. Future book conversations will

include The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for

Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown on Tuesday,

July 19; and Life Lessons from a Bad Quaker: A Humble Stumble Toward

Simplicity and Grace by J. Brent Bill, on Tuesday, August 9. Books are

available for purchase ($10 each) at the Welcome Center.

Get ready to “Catch the Wave of God’s Amazing Love” at the Surf Shack!

Register online for Vacation Bible School, coming July 11-15. To

volunteer, please contact Pam Bryson, Randa Gray, Ginger Schiffner, or

Rebecca Larson.

Flower Dedication—The flowers in the sanctuary today are given to the

glory of God by Ed and Martha Newman to celebrate and bless the

marriage of their daughter Katharine to Glen McLeod.
