    HISTORY

First I would like to introduce myself. My name is Nikolett Murnyi, treasurer ofECLDF. I come from Hungary. I am married, we have 2 daughters. My husband and I arefinally professed Lay Dominicans. We joined the Order in 1993 and we are founder membersof our fraternity. In the Hungarian Vicariate I am responsible for Lay Dominican formationand I am also the deputy president. I keep the Hungarian Lay Dominican website up to date.

By the way, I have a full time job as a manager assistant at a huge oil and gas firm. I have abusy life.Let me start with some experiences regarding my personal activity in ECLDF.I was elected to become a member of ECLDF during the European Assembly in

Fognano in 2001. As you know ECLDF members elect their officers themselves. I becameformation officer during my first term and I was also responsible for our website. I kept ourwebsite regularly updated and I tried using the internet as a tool for formation. I publishedreports, talks and photos there.

With the goal of formation - at the European Assembly held in Walberberg in 2004 Igave a presentation about how a person can pray in a Dominican way in the 21 st century. Ialso presented a meditation on the Luminuous mysteries of the Rosary. I organizedtranslations: these texts are available in 6 languages.

I was re-elected in Walberberg in 2004. From 2004 to 2005 my task was only to keepour website updated. Then in the autumn of 2005 we re-elected our officers within ECLDFand I became treasurer as well. After Robert Kopfmller-Knabe had resigned and we invitedGabriel Silva to join ECLDF, there was a 3rd election of offices. I remained in my offices.

The first thing I did was to look for a helping hand at home in Hungary. I found theappropriate trustable person in our fraternity. Mrs. Gitta Zillich Csutorane is an expert infinances. She helped me a lot and she audited the figures 3 times: at the end of the year 2006and 2007 and now, before the Assembly started. The documents are available here.

When I took over this job we did not have access to our bank account that had beenused by the treasurer of the previous ECLDF. At that time only that person had access to thebank account since it was a private bank account in Italy.

In November 2005 Robert Kopfmuller-Knabe (ECLDF President at that time) andmyself managed to set up an official bank account for ECLDF as an organization as isrequired by our Statutes. It means that 2 signatures are required for every payment: both thepresident and the treasurer must sign the payment order. Our bank is the German Pax Bank. Itis not expensive and works properly. They have offices in Berlin, Cologne and Rome.Movements of funds can be seen via the internet for the treasurer. Up till now Gabriel and Ihave been signing the financial documents together.

Giovanna Cella Gava (the Treasurer of previous ECLDF) finally closed the old bankaccount at the Italian bank (she had 2 bank accounts) in 2005 and transferred our money tothis new account at Pax Bank in January 2006. Her work done between 2002-2004 wasaudited in March 2005 by Gitta and found to be in order. The Audit is available here.

    PRESENT

Before I started this work, procedures had not been set up. Gitta and I have made thefollowing progress:

A cash-book is set up where all the incomes and expenditures are numbered andtracked both for cash and bank transfers.

    Figures are audited yearly.

Each slip, invoice, bill and bank statement is registered. All the payments and the bank correspondence are documented and done based on the

common decisions written in the ECLDF meeting minutes. Several types of ECLDF financial forms are made and we use them in order to be able

to carry out clear, transparent work. These forms are helpful to recognize who payswhat.

The forms are:o Personal expense form used by ECLDF members when their expenses

related to their ECLDF activities are reimbursed.o Donation formo Receipt form

In 2007 two applications were prepared, asking for financial support for making thisAssembly happen. One of them was sent to the Council of European Bishops Conferences, but they could not support us. The other application was accepted by Renovabis a Germanfoundation and they gave us Eur 4.000 (3.200 is paid and 800 will be paid after havingclosed the Asssembly.) Another Eur 1.000 was given by an anonymous sponsor.

    FIGURES

    FUTURE

I consider it to be of great importance that the next ECLDF does not need to work outthe working structure of the treasury, but can continue the way that has been is builtup. It iswell established. It does not make any sense to change banks depending on where thetreasurer lives. It happens very rarely that you need something that cannot be done via fax ore-mail. This account is free of maintenance fee at Pax Bank and moreover it produces someinterest. Correspondence is available in German and English.

    If I may advise you:

Search for a helping hand in your own province. Keep using the financial forms to have clear and simple data. Contact regularly the provincial presidents for sending the yearly contribution in

order to be able to maintain the existence of ECLDF. Find organizations who can provide financial support for your work and write

applications in due time. Remind the members always to use cheap flights when travelling to meetings for

cost saving reasons. Before nominating someone for the new ECLDF, make sure there are tasks that the

nominated person is able to fulfil. Do not forget that many times there are invisible donations, e.g.: hosting a meeting

or covering ones own travel expenses or taking vacation from work to be able to
