nnabella Sciorramakes her Broad-way debut in "The

-- With theHat," alongside

fellow newcomer ChrisRock. The difference is thatSciorra has been a theaterbaby from the start - shefounded a theater company,the Brass ftrg, in an East65th Street apartment in1981, not long after graduat-ing from Brooklyn's SouthShore High School.

She's worked Off-Broadwaywith such acclaimed compa-nies as the New Group andNaked Angels, though she'sequally known for film ("Iun-gle Fever," "The Hand ThatRocks the Cradle") and TV(Gloria Trillo.on "The Sopra-nos," Det. Carolyn Barek in"Law & Order: CriminalIntent").

Annabella Sciorra makes her debut onthe Great White Way in "Hat."

In her current show, sheplays Victoria, the unhappywife of AA sponsor Ralph(Rock), who contemplates anaffair with her husband'ssponsoree, |ackie (BobbyCannavale).

You and co-starBobby Cannavalewere a couple forthree years beforebreaking up in 2OO7.ln the play, your twocharacters start tomake out on a couch.I could never makeout with my ex-wife,even in a play. Howdo you prepare andget through that?

You're not an actor.We're actors.I don'tknow.

But you're people, too.I don't thinkwe thinkabout

it. Life goes orr. You have anex-wife; I have an ex-boyfriend.But we had a director [Arura D.Shapiro) and a writer whoreallybonded the cast together.So we feel really safe with eachother onstage, and when wewalk out there, we feel like it'sjust us and we're there for eachother. There's a fair amount ofvulnerability that we need tohave with each other, and Idon't thinkwe'dbe able to do itifwe didn't feel safe as actors.

The play seeffis to be aboutthe differences between whowe think we are and who wereally are, as judged by whatwe do.

I think that's a really goodtake on it. Even [Iackie'scousinl |ulio, although he'smore centered and groundedand present in who he islthan the other characters],does seem to live this dualexistence with his [seeming-ly gayJ sexuality and yetbeing married.

Thank you! I was born andraised in Brooklyn, New York,and I still live here. There's abunch of wrong informationabout me online that, once itgets onto certain websites,they consider it like the Bible,and you can't change it. I wasnot born in Connecticut, I amnot Cuban and French, both ofmy parents are from Italy. Oh,and I've never lived in NewOrleans - that's another one.
