Characteristics of mammals A flexible neck with seven cervical vertebrae

Mammals also show enhanced neocortex development

Sound is produced by the larynx (a modified region of the trachea) limbs are oriented vertically

The mammalian heart has 4 chambers

Internal temperature is generally high

Egg development occurs in the uterus (excluding monotremata)

Amphibians characteristicsAmphibians are cold-blooded animals, meaning they

do not have a constant body temperature but instead take on the temperature of their environment.

They have moist, scale less skin that absorbs water and oxygen

The thin skin of amphibians contains many glands, among them poison glands that protect certain species against predators.

Some amphibians protect themselves from enemies by changing color to blend in with their surroundings.

HabitatsAmphibians start their life cycle

underwater and move to land on the onset of their adulthood. They can adapt to a wide range of habitats, even man-made ones.

The preferable habitats of amphibians are wet and damp areas such as wetlands, shallow ponds and marsh pools.
