The Aims of the SchoolAge Range and Admissions


The school caters for children from 3-11 years old. The London Borough of Enfield has published an admissions procedure for all schools in Enfield. This gives priority to children with special needs, social needs, children with brothers and sisters already attending the school and then offers places according to distance from the school, measured in a straight line. This criteria applies to nursery and reception class places. Nursery children are admitted to the nursery in the September after their third birthday.

Applications for nursery and reception classes are accepted from 1st October – 15th January, 11 months before your child is due to start school.

Children currently attending a nursery class will not automatically be given a place in our reception class. Parents will have to re-apply. If your child is entering a nursery or reception class, a member of staff will make an appointment to visit you at home.

If you move into the area during the school year, you will need to make enquiries at the school office where ‘In Year’ forms can be collected and completed.

The National CurriculumAll children study the National Curriculum (NC). As children progress through the school we introduce more single-subject teaching so that by year 6 (10-11 years old) they can benefit from the particular knowledge and skills teachers have in different subjects.

Rigorous schemes of work are drawn up so that your child masters new knowledge and skills as he/she progresses through school.

Sex EducationParents/Carers are always consulted before these lessons take place. Sex Education is taught to 5 – 11 year old children within the context of the family and relationships. Pupils are taught about the structure of the body and the way their bodies develop during adolescence.

Religious EducationRE is not taught as part of the National Curriculum but must be taught by law. We aim to give children knowledge and understanding of religious beliefs and practices so that they may continue in their own beliefs at the same time as respecting those of other people. School Assemblies

School Assemblies Our whole school assemblies establish a firm basis for how we live together in our school and the wider community. Our school gives special attention to Christmas and other major religious festivals, such as Eid / Beyram, Diwali and Pesech

Class OrganisationWe organise children in different ways for different educational purposes. Children are regularly taught as a whole class, particularly at the beginning and end of a lesson. They are organised into ability groups for some english and mathematics work.

Friendship and mixed-ability groupings are also used, particularly when children are encouraged to work together. Children who need extra support in literacy or mathematics will be taught for part of the day individually or in very small groups.This variety of groupings helps to ensure that each individual child has the best chance to achieve his/her potential in each subject.

Assessment, Record Keeping and Reporting Detailed records are kept on your child’s progress. Assessments are made by teachers through the school year and progress records are regularly updated.

Standard Assessments Tests (SATs) are taken by children at the end of year 2 and year 6 (in the school years when your child will be 7 and 11).

Individual and year results of these tests are available to parents at the end of the summer term and aggregate results are published in the School Profile. A link can be found on the school website.

All records are available for you to see by appointment with your child’s class teacher at the end of each term. Every child in Nursery – year 6 receives a written report in early July.

School Discipline We encourage the highest standards of behaviour. Good manners and discipline are essential. Good behaviour enhances effective teaching and learning. We teach our children that we live in a community which can only survive when each of us as individuals feels respected and valued. We recognise that praise and encouragement are effective in encouraging good behaviour but sanctions are in place where necessary.

Bullying Bullying is not tolerated in any form: physical, verbal and psychological abuse is all treated with the utmost seriousness. Children and adults have a clear understanding of how we treat each other, so when bullying occurs it is dealt with immediately. Children are encouraged to talk confidently to any adult if they believe they are being bullied. Please let us know if you have any concerns about your child. Remember, all concerns will be treated seriously.

HomeworkWe have clear expectations for each age group about the amount of homework set. A copy of the homework policy can be made available to you. This will answer any questions you may have about your child’s homework. Please come and ask your child’s teacher if you need any further advice.

Punctuality and Attendance It is very important that your child arrives at school by 8:50 am. Absence from school can only usually be justified when your child is ill. Family holidays, outings, medical and dental appointments must be arranged out of school time. The side gates of the school are locked after 9.00am to keep your child safe from intruders. Please use the main gate after this time.

If for any reason your child is late or absent, a message or letter must be given to the school office stating clearly why he/she was absent or late. If you know your child will be absent, a telephone call before 9.00am will prevent the automated truancy call from being activated. Children should be collected at 3.10pm. if your normal arrangements break down, please telephone to let us know.

School Meals School dinners are prepared on site. A Halal and vegetarian option are available everyday. The youngest children are guided by staff based within the dining area.

If your child has any special dietary requirements please let us know. Lunchtime is a very important part of our school day. Our lunchtime Play Leaders and Teaching Assistants play a vital role in ensuring that the highest standards of behaviour are maintained. We aim to make lunchtimes relaxed and enjoyable at the same time as providing a well-ordered environment.

Dinner Money Dinner money must be paid in advance of the meals being eaten. We are a cashless school and therefore money is paid through the internet or through a Pay Point outlet. If your child is absent, you will not be charged and your money will be carried forward to the next week.

Your child is eligible for free school meals if you receive some benefits. Please see a member of staff in the office if you need help.

Snacks In the interest of your child’s teeth we do not allow sweets, chocolate or chewing gum at school. Children in nursery, reception, year one and year two are given a piece of fruit everyday.

MilkMilk is available free, for all children under 5 years of age.

Personal Property Children are asked not to bring any personal possessions to school, unless requested specifically by the teacher.The staff and governors cannot accept responsibility for damage or loss; however the damage might be caused, if property is brought to premises without specific permission of the Headteacher.

Complaints Procedure1. If you have a worry or complaint you should first consult the Head Teacher. All worries are treated seriously. Every attempt will be made to resolve the problem quickly and effectively. 2. If, however, attempts to resolve the matter fail, please put your complaints in writing to the Chair of Governors at Raynham Primary School. 3. If your complaint remains unresolved you must notify the Clerk to the Governing Body in writing who will decide whether the case goes before the Governors Complaints Panel (GCP). 4. The Governors Complaints Panel will offer further options if you remain dissatisfied.

Full time children: Reception – Year 6 Morning part time children in nursery 8.50am – 3.10pm 8.50am – 11.50am

Afternoon part time children in nursery: 12.10pm – 3.10pm

The number of hours spent teaching during the school week is 21hrs and 40min for the Foundation Stage. 23hrs and 20mins in Key Stage 1 and 24hrs in Key Stage 2. Personal Property Children are asked not to bring any personal possessions to school, unless requested specifically by the teacher.The staff and governors cannot accept responsibility for damage or loss; however the damage might be caused, if property is brought to premises without specific permission of the Headteacher.

Complaints Procedure1. If you have a worry or complaint you should first consult the Head Teacher. All worries are treated seriously. Every attempt will be made to resolve the problem quickly and effectively. 2. If, however, attempts to resolve the matter fail, please put your complaints in writing to the Chair of Governors at Raynham Primary School. 3. If your complaint remains unresolved you must notify the Clerk to the Governing Body in writing who will decide whether the case goes before the Governors Complaints Panel (GCP). 4. The Governors Complaints Panel will offer further options if you remain dissatisfied.

The number of hours spent teaching during the school week is 21hrs and 40min for the Foundation Stage. 23hrs and 20mins in Key Stage 1 and 24hrs in Key Stage 2.
